My eyes flew open as Xavier suddenly drew me towards him, and before I could even process what was happening, he pulled me onto his lap, positioning me directly in front of him facing the steering wheel while his arm wrapped firmly around my waist to keep me steady.
"Take the wheel," he ordered.
My hands instantly glued themselves to it as fear took complete control of me.
"W-what?"
"Drive."
His tone left no room for arguments.
"Head straight up ahead and don't drive like a snail."
My heart twisted painfully because the road ahead was dark, uneven, and filled with obstacles, yet he was asking me to drive while armed men chased us.
I tightened my grip on the steering wheel until my knuckles turned white, and my hands were trembling so badly that I could barely keep the vehicle straight.
I tried.
God knows I tried.
But it wasn't even half the speed Xavier had been driving moments ago because my entire body was too tense and frightened to focus properly.
