Chapter 9: Rukia Enters the Mortal Kombat Set
After finalizing the details with Ichigo, Mo Yu was in high spirits and took some time to chat with him.
It had to be said that even though the World Bubble Ichigo resided in was a mere reflection of a 3D being's fantasy within the Silver Sea, the life birthed within it showed no signs of being a "fictional creation."
Ichigo had TV shows he liked to watch and celebrities he followed. Surprisingly, he was very interested in rock music and could talk about rock stars with great detail. Of course, in a World Bubble that only consisted of Karakura Town, whether those rock stars on TV and in newspapers actually existed elsewhere was a matter of perspective. Even as God, Mo Yu hadn't researched that yet.
In short, stripping away the hot-blooded protagonist stereotypes, Ichigo was actually a pretty interesting guy. He was a bit stubborn, but his mind was delicate and gentle, and his EQ was unexpectedly high. He had the typical flaws of a youth—emotion outweighing logic, and a certain impulsiveness—but for a sixteen-year-old, these weren't issues at all.
If a youth is not flamboyant, can he truly be called a youth?
But that flamboyance had nothing to do with Mo Yu. After chatting with Ichigo for a while, he switched screens, opened his writing software, and began the grueling task of typing.
Perhaps thanks to the Divine Status, Mo Yu found his mind exceptionally clear and his focus much sharper. His typing efficiency skyrocketed, breaking through his usual "failing author" realm of 100 words a day to a "Full Attendance" realm of 4,000 words. The increase in combat power was so immense that even Mo Yu wanted to exclaim, "Terrifyingly formidable!"
After finishing his work, he didn't check on the Bleach World Bubble immediately. Instead, he curiously explored his computer.
As a medium connecting the material world and the Silver Sea, and having been decreed by Mo Yu as the "Carrier of Heaven," this computer had developed many supernatural traits. The desktop background was a holy, solemn image of Heaven with many little angels flying within. Mo Yu discovered that this "Heaven" wasn't just a 2D wallpaper, but a massive, 3D-modeled world he could zoom in on, rotate, and interact with.
Mo Yu realized that his Heaven truly resided within this computer. However, after exploring, he felt a bit disappointed.
While vast and beautiful, the interior was lonely and empty. The entire Heaven contained only five structures. The largest was a palace hundreds of meters high, shrouded in holy light. It was empty inside save for a single, impossibly large throne. Mo Yu guessed it was his exclusive seat as God. Beside it was a smaller palace containing a pool of shimmering water. The infant angels were born from this pool of Holy Light. The remaining three structures were dormitories for the little angels.
If Heaven were a management sim game, Mo Yu's version was incredibly primitive. One main hall (purpose unknown), one infant angel hatching pool (no resource cost, hatches 100 per hour), and three dormitories (1,000 units per dorm).
Mo Yu was confused. He remembered clearly that the Old Testament God who gave him the inheritance had a Heaven with a complex, multi-layered structure and an army of angels as numerous as stars. Why was only this much left when it passed to him?
Unfortunately, he couldn't find a build menu, so he had to set the matter aside. He did, however, find a use for the little angels. Although they had to stay within Heaven, since Heaven overlapped with the computer, they could interfere with the software. On Mo Yu's command, they acted as extensions of his will to operate the PC—though the results were mixed.
Mo Yu asked them to search for Bleach lore online. They opened a search engine, fumbled around, and quickly got lost in pop-up ads for shopping apps and online gambling. They fell deeper and deeper until they clicked a banner for a retro browser game, ready to go "slash their brothers" for loot. Mo Yu lowered his expectations and asked them to play a song. This was easy for them, but after finishing the task, the angels looked at their own instruments with dejected expressions.
Mo Yu remembered that according to scripture, these angels were born to sing the Lord's glory. Now that their jobs were taken by a music player, they felt like their careers were over. Feeling guilty, Mo Yu closed the player and let the angels perform live.
To be honest, Mo Yu couldn't quite appreciate this classical religious music, but he eventually found a win-win solution: he told the angels to open the music player and learn how to play the songs they heard inside.
Regardless, thanks to these angels, his five-year-old, 5,000-yuan PC had essentially "super-evolved" into an AI computer—even if the actual operation was still a bit "special."
As night fell, Mo Yu felt sleepy. He gave the angels some tasks and went to bed.
In his dreams, bizarre images flickered.
A man in tattered linen robes, heavily bearded, walked a path filled with thorns and fire. Along the way, people offered flowers, sages offered scepters, and patriarchs offered crowns. He never looked at them once, his gaze fixed only on the infinitely distant void.
From youth to middle age, from middle age to old age, until his hair was like frost and his body withered, he never stopped. He was thinking, questioning, understanding.
As he stepped across the path of thorns, the blood he spilled became the soil that carried the "Primeval Substance." The wisdom that seeped from within him became seeds of light. The seeds fell into the soil, and saplings broke through, gradually becoming a glorious and holy Tree.
Three Pillars, Ten Sephirot, Four Worlds, Twenty-Two Paths—woven into a Holy Tree reflecting all mysterious karma of the universe. Upon the tree, holy angels sat within the Sephirot, overlooking the mortal world, presiding over wisdom and mystery.
The man stepped forward, advancing without end, crossing the mortal path of thorns and fire. Climbing the ladder of the sword and crown, he ascended the Holy Tree. The angels on the tree offered trials and interrogations, hostility and temptation. There was even a crowned serpent weaving mists to lead him astray.
He never wavered. The Cauldron of Chaos turned, following the supreme Primeval Principle. Forming, Flowing, Refining, Releasing—manifesting wisdom in the Primordial Copper, condensing spiritual light in the Stainless Silver, until the final Golden "Perfect Man."
Reaching the summit, gazing at the vast void, the old man completed his self-refinement and completion. He exhaled his last breath, finished his final step as a human, and slowly closed his eyes.
When he opened them again, boundless chaos spread out. An invisible crown and glory fell upon him. From "him," he became "Him."
When His spirit walked upon the face of the deep chaos, He said:
"Let there be light!"
And there was light. And the Holy Kingdom, praised by ten thousand, manifested within the light.
Mo Yu woke up at dawn. He remained silent, contemplating what he had gained from the dream.
Perhaps due to the inheritance of the status, Mo Yu had glimpsed the "past and present" of the Old Testament God. It wasn't that complicated. In an ancient era, a monk of a secret cult spent his life studying theology and mysticism, performing consistent cultivation. Following the rituals of Kabbalistic Alchemy, he completed the path of completion. Finally, shedding his decaying body, his soul "ascended" to the Silver Sea, obtaining the mysteries and karma of the universe to become God.
Mo Yu put "ascended" in quotes because it was hard to tell if that monk truly became God or if his lifelong fantasies simply mapped a "God" with his memories into the Silver Sea.
Through the dream, Mo Yu realized that in ancient times, some people had detected the existence of the Silver Sea. They viewed it as the ultimate realm containing all wisdom and mystery, a place of infinite perfection. They spent their lives trying to set foot there to gain the authority to rule everything.
In a sense, they weren't wrong. The Silver Sea was indeed a place where all fantasies could come true. If you could get in, becoming a Buddha or a God wasn't hard. In fact, there were already as many "Gods" in there as there were hairs on a cow.
However, that "perfection" wasn't absolute. If it were, how did that Old Testament God fall? Thinking of this, Mo Yu frowned; the information regarding the final enemy and the God's fall was a complete blank in his inheritance.
He could only push the doubt to the back of his mind. Regardless, the dream had filled his head with a wealth of occult knowledge.
Mo Yu found it hard to evaluate this "mystical" info. It was ancient—so ancient that one technique for "summoning a holy altar of angelic wisdom" involved taking several "fruits rich in spiritual essence," some "metal devices symbolizing the link between earth and heaven," performing a ritual with water and incantations, and then drinking the water to gain wisdom.
Mo Yu cross-referenced this with modern knowledge. The "spiritual fruit" was a lemon. The "metal device" was a copper/zinc setup. After translating the ancient mysticism, the result was: making a small lemon battery to electrolyze water and then drinking it. It might be healthy, but unless the angel's true name was "Health Specialist," it was hardly an occult mystery.
He recalled news about "Baghdad Batteries" found in archeological sites. Perhaps ancient people discovered physical phenomena and religious-ized them. Modern chemistry did come from Western Alchemy, after all.
Even if the ancient occultism wasn't "reliable," it was great writing material. At the very least, he could become a high-end teacher for those trendy "spiritual awakening" classes. If he caught a "fat sheep" (a rich client), it would pay better than novels—though the risk of "sewing machine time" (prison) was much higher.
After breakfast, Mo Yu sat back at the computer. He checked the work of the little angels. They had taken shifts watching the Bleach World Bubble to ensure no accidents occurred while also using the "God Perspective" to search for supernatural beings in Karakura Town.
They did a great job. The video was split into dozens of views, each locked onto a supernatural entity—mostly Hollows. Among them was Mo Yu's target: Grand Fisher.
Grand Fisher was a Menos-class Hollow who had evaded the Soul Society for fifty years. It excelled at disguise and was the one who killed Ichigo's mother.
Even if Ichigo lacked talent as an actor, his "performance" would be incredibly powerful when he realized the first villain he had to fight was his mother's killer.
Meanwhile, Ichigo had woken up and was heading to school. In the classroom, Orihime Inoue and Yasutora "Chad" Sado greeted him. Orihime was shy; at this stage, her crush was still a hazy, secret thing.
Then, the teacher introduced the mysterious transfer student: Rukia.
If Mo Yu hadn't spoiled it, Ichigo would have screamed in shock. A mysterious girl met by fate transferring to the protagonist's class the next day is a classic anime trope. Mo Yu didn't judge the cliché; as a web novelist, he had used it plenty of times himself.
After class, Rukia, the "cool beauty," was popular with the students, but she brushed them off and pulled Ichigo away, leaving everyone stunned.
In a hidden spot, Rukia gave Ichigo the "world-building" talk: the World of the Living vs. the Soul Society, what Hollows are, and the job of a Soul Reaper. She explained she had lost her powers and wanted Ichigo to take the job as a Substitute Soul Reaper.
Mo Yu re-watched this, shaking his head with a cold smile.
In the Soul Society's view, the World of the Living is a dwelling for "Vessels," while the Soul Society is a collection of "Wholes." The terminology alone revealed their arrogance. Mortals are just "vessels," while the Noble souls are "whole" beings. The Soul Reapers' job is supposedly to "adjust the balance of souls."
Ichigo didn't understand the "balance" yet. He thought it was just killing Hollows and sending ghosts to heaven. But Mo Yu knew better.
These Soul Reapers didn't just kill evil spirits. In the name of "balance," their true work wasn't exactly heroic.
Simply put, the populations of the three worlds must maintain a dynamic balance. If the population in the human world increases, Hollows increase, and the Soul Society allows more souls into the Rukongai. Conversely, if the human population decreases, they must reduce the population in the Soul Society and launch expeditions to Hueco Mundo.
If the Soul Society and Hueco Mundo suffer heavy losses in a war, they will never allow the human population to flourish.
Vessel (Humans), Whole (Spirit Bodies), and Hollow (Evil Spirits)—all must be balanced. This was the order created by the Nobles who betrayed the Soul King. It was also why they tried to wipe out the Quincy, whose power completely annihilated souls rather than recycling them, thus disrupting the balance.
Mo Yu once read a theory that the title "BLEACH" referred to how the black-clad Soul Reapers were actually the "darkest" part of the world, while the white-clad Quincies were an allegory for light. He didn't care to find the truth, but he watched as Ichigo looked dazed by Rukia's lecture. In the original plot, Ichigo would have stubbornly refused here.
But now, as soon as Rukia finished, Ichigo said urgently, "We'll talk about the Soul Reaper stuff later! We need to take the afternoon off and go film the movie!"
Rukia froze, her expression shifting to one of utter disgust. I didn't think this guy with such thick eyebrows would be a creep obsessed with filming "adult" movies. Disgusting. She refused immediately.
Ichigo blinked and looked at the sky, silently asking: Observer, didn't you say she'd agree?
"Don't worry, kid. Without the Director's nod, how can the Assistant Director start working?"
Mo Yu cracked his knuckles. He put his left hand on the keyboard and his right on the mouse.
In the next instant, the Hogyoku within Rukia responded to the Supreme Will from the 3D world. Reality began to warp.
Within the player, the art style of Rukia's perspective changed. Following Mo Yu's will, a character portrait appeared in the top left, complete with a red HP bar and a blue MP bar. Skill and inventory icons appeared at the bottom.
Mo Yu tapped the S key. Rukia found herself inexplicably taking a step back. Then, Mo Yu hit the Spacebar. Rukia jumped into the air involuntarily!
"Huh?! What's happening?!"
Before she could process it, Mo Yu hit W + Shift. Rukia launched into a full-speed sprint.
Ichigo watched in a daze as Rukia—his "Executive Assistant Director" who hadn't even signed a contract—dashed toward the "set" with unstoppable momentum.
