Varos remained silent for several seconds, his frustration obvious as he looked between Aurelian and the tactical display.
Eventually, he gave a reluctant nod and ordered the reserve destroyers to stop firing.
One recovery vessel immediately followed their example, with the converted transport powering down its weapons soon afterward.
The damaged patrol ship did not.
It continued firing as though nothing had changed.
Apparently, its commander had not agreed with the withdrawal. One recovery vessel remained beside it, while the other three ships began pulling away under the agreement.
Aurelian watched the attacking formation split apart.
Varos stared at the same display with open disbelief. "Idiots."
For once, Aurelian agreed completely.
The two remaining ships continued toward the station, forcing the lead Vhaloric destroyer to turn back.
"Disable them if you can," Aurelian ordered.
Varos nodded, his attention returning to the battle. "I'll try."
