Varos Pell's former partner was Corven Sahl, and the more Eirenne investigated him, the less Aurelian liked what she found.
Corven had helped establish the reserve site's recovery operation nearly two years earlier.
He provided funding, arranged industrial shipments, and used his connections among independent salvage companies to obtain equipment that would otherwise have been difficult to purchase.
Under their original agreement, Varos would manage the station and its restoration work, while Corven handled outside contracts and financing.
The arrangement had apparently worked well for the first year before disagreements began.
"Over the destroyers?" Aurelian asked, studying the documents Eirenne had recovered.
"Over everything we found," Varos replied, tired.
