Uriel made to step forwards, intending to follow Kai when the clerk stepped aside to allow him to pass through the door after Bishop Athera.
"No, Uri. I'm not sure what he wants so...maybe just wait out here." Kai placed a hand against his chest, willing it not to shake from the residual adrenaline still coursing through his system.
He opened his mouth as if he were about to object but seemingly deciding against it, Uriel gave him a dimpled smile and turned back to study the closest statue as if he found it highly interesting.
Kai took a deep breath and stepped through the side door, into a dark, shadowy corridor.
The stone walls were softly illuminated by a few well-placed runic lamps; small, opaque orbs of light that were fixed into brass brackets.
The wooden door to his immediate right was ajar, orange, flickering light spilling out from within, and so, with a final steadying breath, Kai stepped inside.
