POV — Lucy
The first thing Lucy noticed about Ren's house wasn't how big it was.
It was how quiet it felt.
Not empty—never that—but calm in a way Magnolia rarely managed. The lake outside the windows shimmered lazily, sunlight stretching across the wooden floor like it belonged there. Lucy stood just inside the doorway, one hand curled around her suitcase handle, unsure when she'd stopped walking and started… hesitating.
"This is temporary," she reminded herself under her breath.
Temporary didn't stop her heart from thumping.
She stepped inside.
The house smelled faintly of tea and clean wood. Someone—probably Mira—had already opened the windows. Curtains stirred with the breeze. From deeper inside came voices: Erza's firm and familiar, Juvia's softer but animated, Mira's gentle laugh tying everything together.
Lucy swallowed.
Okay. Breathe. You've survived worse than shared housing.
Still… this was different.

POV — Ren
Ren watched Lucy from the hallway without saying anything.
She looked small in that moment—not weak, never that—but like someone standing on the edge of a decision she'd already made and was still coming to terms with. He leaned against the wall, arms folded, expression relaxed on purpose.
No pressure.
He'd meant every word earlier. The room had always been hers. It wasn't a spur-of-the-moment offer—it was something he'd planned the day she joined Fairy Tail and quietly started sleeping on benches and borrowed floors.
Independence mattered to Lucy. Ren respected that.
But independence didn't mean isolation.
"You can pick whichever room you want," he said casually. "Except Erza's. That one's… fortified."
Erza's voice echoed instantly from the kitchen.
"I heard that."
Ren smirked. "That means it's working."
Lucy laughed before she could stop herself.
Good. The tension cracked.

POV — Erza
Erza observed Lucy with a trained eye—not as a knight, not as a warrior, but as someone who had once stood in unfamiliar places herself.
Lucy moved carefully, like she didn't want to disturb anything. Like she was a guest.
That wouldn't do.
Erza set her cup down and walked over, placing a firm hand on Lucy's shoulder. Not heavy. Just solid.
"You live here now," Erza said simply. "Act accordingly."
Lucy blinked. "I—I'm still paying rent for my old place this month—"
"Which you won't be doing again," Erza replied flatly.
Lucy sputtered. "E-Erza!"
"This is not charity," Erza continued, unwavering. "It is practicality. You are family. Family shares space."
Juvia nodded vigorously beside them. "Yes! Living together increases emotional stability and combat synergy!"
Mira smiled. "And it's more fun."
Lucy's eyes burned suddenly, and she hated that they did.
She turned away quickly, pretending to inspect a shelf. "I just… I wanted to prove I could do this on my own."
Ren's voice came gently from behind her.
"That doesn't mean you have to do it alone."
Silence settled—not awkward, just honest.
Lucy exhaled.
"…Okay," she said quietly.

POV — Lucy (Later)
Her room wasn't large—but it was bright.
A window overlooked the lake. A simple bed, already made. A desk near the wall. Enough space to breathe. Someone—Mira, definitely Mira—had placed a small vase with fresh flowers on the windowsill.
Lucy sat on the edge of the bed and ran her fingers over the blanket.
For the first time since coming to Magnolia… she didn't feel like she was borrowing space in the world.
She opened her bag to unpack.
Keys clinked softly.
Her silver Celestial Spirit keys caught the light as she laid them carefully in a small wooden box. Aries. Taurus. Aquarius. So many contracts. So many promises.
Then—
Clink.
A key she didn't recognize.
Lucy froze.
Golden.
Warm to the touch.
Her breath caught. "This is—"
The door burst open.

POV — Happy
"I REMEMBERED!!"
Lucy yelped. "Happy?!"
The blue Exceed hovered proudly, holding absolutely nothing now that his job was done. "The key! The shiny one! Virgo asked me to give it to you a while ago but then Natsu punched something and I forgot!"
Lucy stared at the key in her hands.
"…Virgo?"
Happy nodded. "Uh-huh! She said it was important! And that you'd be happy!"
Lucy's fingers trembled as realization hit.
A Golden Key.
Her chest tightened. Then—
She laughed.
Not a small laugh. A full, bright, slightly teary one that echoed through the room.
"Happy," she said softly, clutching the key, "thank you."
Happy beamed. "Aye!"

POV — Ren (Evening)
Dinner was loud.
Not guild-hall loud—but warm. Comfortable. Juvia argued with Gray from memory alone. Erza corrected table manners mid-bite. Mira served seconds without asking. Lucy talked more than she had all day, animated and glowing, the golden key resting safely beside her plate like it belonged there.
Ren leaned back in his chair and watched.
This—this—was what he'd wanted when he bought the house.
Not silence.
Not space.
But presence.
Outside, the lake reflected the last light of the day. Inside, laughter lingered long after the plates were cleared.
Lucy caught his eye and smiled—small, sincere, certain.
Ren nodded back.
Welcome home.
