Chapter 48 - CHAPTER FORTY EIGHT

I froze for a moment, phone still pressed to my ear, Adrien's voice muffled on the other end as I tried to process her. She was impossible to ignore—tall, striking, every bit the glamorous presence she clearly knew she was. Her clothes screamed wealth, her makeup immaculate, her blonde hair catching the light just right, framing those icy blue eyes and flawless pale skin.

And then there was her energy—so loud, so unapologetically herself, like she owned the whole world. She twirled on her heels as if the mansion were her stage, the heavy luggage forgotten at her feet while the maids hovered behind her, waiting for instructions.

"Where are you… Allyy?!" she called, her voice cutting through the calm of the living room, echoing off the polished walls. I could see Alexander somewhere in my mind's eye—his expression probably stiffening already—but she didn't even seem aware of anyone else yet.

Her attention finally shifted, and her eyes landed on me. The change in her stance was immediate, like a predator noticing another in her territory. Her steps slowed, deliberate, almost theatrical.

"And who are you?" she asked, her voice carrying a mixture of curiosity and challenge. She stopped a few feet away, tilting her head slightly as if assessing me, sizing me up like one would a chess piece.

I straightened in my chair, forcing a calm I didn't entirely feel. "I'm Evie. Nice to meet you, Miss," I said politely, letting the words fall smooth and measured, though my stomach twisted with unease.

She blinked, a small, almost dismissive smile curling at the corner of her lips. "Evie, huh? Interesting… I guess I'll have to remember that." Her tone was playful but edged with something sharper, a faint warning hiding behind the sparkle.

I swallowed hard, realizing just how different she was—how entirely opposite from Alexander's cold, controlled demeanor. Everything about her radiated confidence, extravagance, and chaos all at once. And yes… I could already feel the tension building. Because if she was staying here, even temporarily, this was going to be… complicated.

I clenched my hands in my lap subtly, reminding myself to stay calm. Deep down, a part of me whispered: Evie, you've handled far worse than a flashy, dramatic sister figure. Just breathe. Just… observe.

And with that, the game—or maybe the storm—had officially arrived.

Perfect! Let's continue Evie's POV as she navigates the first tense moments with this new arrival, keeping her calm but observant, and showing subtle tension with Alexander in the background:

I stayed seated, phone forgotten in my hand as the newcomer stepped closer, her heels clicking on the polished floor like tiny warnings. She circled me once, eyes sharp and assessing, the faintest smirk tugging at her lips.

"Well, this is… unexpected," she said, letting the words linger. "I didn't think I'd find someone else in the house before I even got a chance to meet him."

I forced a small smile, keeping my tone steady. "I live here too. Evie," I said again, careful to sound polite but confident. No flinching. Don't give her a reason to push.

Her gaze sharpened, scanning me up and down, like she was mentally cataloging every detail. "Evie… huh. Not a bad name. But I wonder… what's your deal? Friend? Guest? Entertainment?" She tilted her head, the smirk growing as if she had all the time in the world to figure me out.

I felt the tension coil in my chest. "I'm… someone he trusts," I replied evenly, leaving it vague. Enough to assert presence without giving her any opening to pry.

Behind us, I could feel it—Alexander's presence. Not physically, but the energy shift in the room hinted he was somewhere nearby, watching. I knew him well enough to read it: calm, calculated, and observing silently, his sharp mind cataloging every move, every word, every expression.

The newcomer's smile faltered for a fraction of a second, but she quickly masked it. "Trust, huh?" she said softly, almost to herself, then looked back at me. "Well, I hope you know your place here, Evie. I'm not exactly the type to… share space easily."

I didn't flinch. "I'll manage," I said, letting my voice remain calm, almost casual, but my eyes stayed locked on hers. I wanted her to know I wasn't intimidated, no matter how loud, glamorous, or flashy she seemed.

She tilted her head again, the smirk returning, but this time there was a hint of curiosity in her gaze. "Interesting," she murmured. "I like a little fire. Makes things… entertaining."

I let her words hang in the air. Fire… yes, I had fire too. But this wasn't about showing it off. It was about control—quiet, measured, calculated control.

And then, from somewhere behind the doorway, I felt Alexander shift. The air seemed to tighten slightly. Not a word was said, not a glance given, but his presence alone reminded her—reminded me—of the rules here.

She glanced around, then let out a small, amused sigh. "Well… looks like I'm going to have fun getting to know this place."

I didn't respond immediately. I simply watched her, assessing, planning, mentally preparing for whatever storm she was going to bring into this mansion.

And deep down, I knew Alexander was watching too, always watching, silently judging, always three steps ahead.

" But yeah as l said, please try your best not to annoy me, l really like a drama free Life." She said getting up.

"Yeah I understand, you won't even notice am here." I replied standing on my ground.

" So well where is he ? I can't wait to see him, I have waited this whole time to meet him. And am sure he misses me too." She squirled while twirling around.

What is her deal, I wondered to myself.

I wonder also how Alex is going to deal with her.

But deep down l don't know,there was a feeling l was feeling that l couldn't fathom, because.....

But wait am on a mission an dl shouldn't lose focus. Right?
