Chapter 52 - CHAPTER FIFTY TWO

THE NEXT MORNING,

I woke up in the morning from a text Liam sent me and it said that, and it was another file about the Quinn family.

it seemed like they were in the big three mafia families in the northern part and they were the first. so, it meant that they were the head of all bad in the state.

And with alexander being next in line, the system will somehow subtly change. Another thing is that Ezekiel, the head of all this big chain, he is reportedly ill and it means that things may change faster than expected.

With all of this in my mind l really have to find my way to quickly end this family and all feelings set aside, l have to switch to my old self.

Which also makes me sick is that l doesn't know what happened last night with those men in black last night.

And with Ezekiel and Kyle, it gives the whole situation a big spectrum. I immediately got out of the bed and got ready for the day. Because today l am going to follow Alexander and find out what he does during the day and that will definitely get me somewhere.

But the slap of reality hit me so hard when l remembered that las night, that hell of a girl barged in, all crazy over Alexander.

Because when l got down stairs, i found her all dressed up, scrolling in her phone, like he was waiting for someone.

" Oh, look who is here, why are you even still leaving here? l can't think of any reason why you would stay here." she asked looking up from the screen with a slight sight of disgust.

But l wasn't ready to deal with her, out of all people, she is the least person am interested in.

" what's it to you, though" l stepped down from the last stair." it's none of your business, ma'am."

She scoffed at my words, clearly irritated that I didn't give her the reaction she wanted.

"Oh please," she said, crossing her arms as she leaned back into the couch. "Everything here concerns me. Especially when strangers start appearing out of nowhere."

"I'm not a stranger," I replied calmly, though my patience was already thinning.

She raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced.

"Oh really? Then what are you? Because from where I'm standing, you're just someone who showed up and suddenly thinks she belongs here."

Before I could answer, I heard footsteps on the staircase behind me.

The air in the room seemed to shift instantly.

Alexander walked down the stairs, dressed in a black shirt with the sleeves rolled up and dark trousers. His expression was calm as always, unreadable, but the moment he stepped into the room Lila's entire demeanor changed.

Her irritation melted into something much softer.

"Alexander," she said quickly, standing up and smoothing down her dress.

His eyes briefly moved from her… to me. Just for a second.

A second that felt a little too long.

Then he looked away.

"Good morning," he said simply.

Lila walked closer to him, clearly eager for his attention.

"I was just waiting for you," she said with a small smile.

Alexander nodded slightly.

"Yes. About that." He glanced at the watch on his wrist before looking back at her. "We should get going."

Her face brightened instantly.

"Oh, right."

Then his gaze shifted toward me again.

For a moment, I wondered if he was going to say something. Ask something. Maybe even question why I was here.

But instead, he simply spoke in that same calm tone.

"Excuse us."

He placed a hand lightly on Lila's back, guiding her toward the door. She looked over her shoulder at me as they walked past, a faint smirk appearing on her lips as if she had already won something.

The door closed behind them moments later.

And just like that, the house fell quiet.

I stood there for a few seconds, thinking.

So they were going out together.

Perfect.

If I wanted to know what Alexander Quinn really did during the day… this was my chance.

I grabbed my phone and my jacket from the chair.

Today, I was going to follow him.

I grabbed my jacket and slipped my phone into the pocket before heading for the door.

If Alexander and Lila thought they could just walk out and continue their perfect little day, they were wrong.

Not today.

Through the window, I spotted their car pulling out of the driveway. I waited a few seconds before stepping outside and calling a cab from the corner of the street.

"Follow that black car," I told the driver quietly as soon as we started moving.

He raised an eyebrow but said nothing.

We drove for nearly twenty minutes before Alexander's car finally stopped in front of a tall, modern building in the quieter part of the city. It didn't look like a business office… but it definitely wasn't a normal place either.

I paid the driver and got out a block away, keeping my distance.

Alexander stepped out first.

Lila followed him, adjusting her sunglasses as if this place belonged to her.

They spoke briefly to a man standing near the entrance before disappearing inside the building.

I waited a few minutes.

Then I crossed the street and walked toward the entrance, trying my best to look like I belonged there.

Inside, the building was darker than I expected. The lights were dim, and the hallway stretched far deeper than it should have.

Voices echoed somewhere ahead.

I moved quietly, keeping close to the wall until I reached a corner.

And that's when I heard it.

Alexander's voice.

Low. Calm. Dangerous.

"…it needs to be handled today. No delays."

My heart started beating faster.

I carefully leaned forward just enough to see.

Alexander stood near a large table with two men in black suits. Lila was leaning casually against the wall beside him, watching the conversation with interest.

Whatever this meeting was… it definitely wasn't normal.

I quickly stepped back before they could notice me.

But as I turned to leave—

"Interesting."

The voice came from directly behind me.

My entire body froze.

Slowly, I turned around.

And my stomach dropped.

One of Alexander's men stood in the hallway, blocking the exit, his arms folded as he studied me carefully.

"You seem a little lost," he said.

My mind raced.

If he called the others, everything would be over.

The moment he got close enough, I moved.

Quickly, I stepped forward and struck the back of his neck with the edge of my hand.

His eyes widened for a second before his body went completely limp.

He collapsed.

I caught him before he hit the floor too loudly.

My heart pounded as I looked around the empty hallway.

No one had heard.

Just a few steps away, I noticed a door slightly open.

Perfect.

I quickly dragged him across the floor and pulled him inside the room before closing the door behind us.

The room was dark and empty, probably used for storage.

I leaned against the door for a second, trying to calm my breathing.

That was close.

Too close.

But at least no one knew I was here.

And now that I was inside… I was even closer to finding out what Alexander Quinn was really hiding.
