Chapter 53 - CHAPTER FIFTY THREE

A few minutes passed in silence.

Then I heard footsteps in the hallway.

Several of them.

I held my breath and moved closer to the door, carefully peeking through the small crack.

Alexander stepped out of the room where the meeting had been held, his expression calm as always, as if nothing in the world could ever disturb him.

The two men who had been speaking with him followed closely behind.

"So it's settled," one of them said.

Alexander adjusted the cuff of his sleeve slightly.

"It was settled the moment I walked in," he replied calmly.

Lila walked beside him, her heels clicking softly against the floor.

"So where are we going now?" she asked.

Alexander glanced at his watch.

"There's somewhere I need to be."

One of the men nodded.

"The shipment?"

Alexander gave a small nod in return.

"Yes. I want to see it myself."

They began walking down the hallway, their voices slowly fading as they moved further away.

I stayed still until the sound of their footsteps disappeared completely.

Shipment?

That single word echoed in my mind.

Whatever Alexander was going to check… it was important enough for him to leave immediately after the meeting.

And if I wanted answers—

I had to follow him again.

A few minutes passed in silence.

Then I heard footsteps in the hallway.

Several of them.

Shipment?

That single word echoed in my mind.

Whatever Alexander was going to check… it was important enough for him to leave immediately after the meeting.

And if I wanted answers—

.

I stayed behind the warehouse wall for a moment, letting my breathing slow down.

The cool air helped clear my head, but my mind was still racing.

Drugs.

Not just a few packages hidden in some secret corner.

An entire warehouse full of them.

Different kinds. Different shipments. Enough to flood several cities at once.

And Alexander Quinn was supervising it like it was just another normal business deal.

I glanced back toward the warehouse door I had just slipped out of.

Part of me wanted to leave right then and there. I already knew enough to prove what the Quinn family was doing.

But another part of me—the stubborn, dangerous part that had gotten me into trouble before—wanted more.

If I was going to destroy them, I needed everything.

Proof.

Routes.

Names.

Plans.

And right now, Alexander was still inside.

I slowly moved along the side of the building until I reached a small window near the back. The glass was dusty, but I could still see inside.

The warehouse was busy.

Workers continued moving crates from the truck onto pallets while guards walked around the floor, watching carefully.

Alexander stood near a metal table where several opened packages were spread out. One of the men handed him a clipboard while another pointed toward the stacked crates.

"They're ready for transport," the man said.

Alexander looked over the list briefly.

"Split them into the five routes we discussed," he replied calmly. "And double the security for the northern trucks."

"Understood."

Lila leaned against the table beside him, watching everything like it was some kind of show.

"You're being extra careful with this one," she said lightly.

Alexander looked up at her.

"This shipment is bigger than the others."

"And?" she asked.

"And bigger shipments attract bigger problems."

His voice stayed calm, but there was something sharp underneath it.

Something that told me he didn't like taking risks.

Which meant if anyone here discovered me…

things would get very bad.

I leaned a little closer to the window, trying to hear more.

"Once the trucks leave," Alexander continued, "no stops until the checkpoints. I don't want delays."

One of the guards nodded.

"Everything is already prepared."

Suddenly another man hurried across the warehouse floor toward them.

"There's a problem."

Alexander's attention shifted to him instantly.

"What kind of problem?"

"One of the guards is missing."

My stomach dropped.

The guard.

The one I knocked out.

The man continued speaking, clearly nervous.

"We can't find him anywhere in the building."

Lila straightened slightly, her curiosity clearly sparked.

Alexander didn't react right away.

Instead, he slowly placed the clipboard back on the table.

"Search the entire building," he said calmly.

"And check the cameras."

The moment he said that, my entire body went cold.

Cameras.

Of course there were cameras.

How could I not think about that?

Inside the warehouse, several guards immediately began moving toward different hallways and rooms.

One of them headed toward the exact direction where I had dragged the unconscious guard earlier.

I quickly stepped away from the window.

If they found him, it wouldn't take long for them to realize someone else had been inside.

And once they checked the cameras…

they might see me.

I needed to leave.

Now.

I moved along the back of the warehouse, keeping low as I reached the section of fence where I had slipped inside earlier.

Voices echoed faintly from inside the building as more guards began searching.

I crouched near the fence and carefully pushed through the bent metal opening again.

The moment I was outside the compound, I stood up and began walking quickly down the empty road.

Only when the warehouse disappeared behind the trees did I finally slow down.

My heart was still pounding.

That had been way too close.

But despite the risk, I now had something important.

Information.

Proof that the Quinn family was running one of the biggest drug operations in the region.

And Alexander Quinn was leading it.

I pulled out my phone and looked at the screen for a moment.

Liam's contact was still at the top of my messages.

He needed to know about this.

But something stopped me from pressing the call button.

Because a small voice in the back of my mind kept whispering the same thought.

If Alexander was smart enough to run an operation this big without being caught…

then maybe…

just maybe…

he already knew someone was watching him.
