CHAPTER 87: KIRA'S INCONVENIENCE
Selene's POV
I noticed it because of the coffee.
Not a dramatic observation — nothing about it announced itself as significant. But I had been in the packhouse long enough to learn its rhythms, and one of those rhythms was Kira's morning routine, which was invariable to the point of being institutional. She arrived at the training grounds at 0645. She ran the perimeter alone for twenty minutes. She drank her coffee standing at the eastern wall, looking at the tree line, before the first session began at 0730.
Every morning. Without exception.
Except this morning, her coffee was on the bench at the eastern wall, going cold, because Kira was standing twenty meters away in conversation with a wolf I had seen around the packhouse without knowing his name.
