Chen and Jinx blurred through the streets of Piltover on their hoverboards, heading straight for the Hexgate towers. But as they neared the plume of purple smoke, Jinx's expression shifted. The manic glee vanished, replaced by a cold, sharp intensity Chen hadn't seen since the night at the cannery.
Jinx tilted her head, her violet eyes flashing. "We're Zaunites, Chen. Why are you so worried about Piltover? About these nobles who wouldn't spit on us if we were on fire? When did you become a Topside lackey?"
Her voice had a jagged edge of betrayal. "Have you forgotten how they treat us? To them, we're just pests to be gassed. Why are you helping them?"
Chen's board wobbled for a second. She wasn't wrong. The structural inequality of the Twin Cities was the root of all this blood. But he looked at her and spoke with a gravity that matched her own.
"You're right, Jinx. Piltover is built on the backs of the Undercity. But look down there," he gestured to the residential blocks below the Academy. "The people Silco is about to slaughter aren't the Councilors. They're families, artisans, and kids who have nothing to do with the Chem-Barons or the Enforcers. If Silco turns this city into a graveyard, it doesn't liberate Zaun—it just creates a new pile of bodies. Our enemy is Silco's madness, not every living soul in Piltover."
Jinx leaned her head closer, her lips pouting. "You're not lying to me, are you? Just to play hero?"
"When have I ever lied to you?" Chen asked, meeting her gaze.
Jinx stared at him for a long beat, then let out a sudden, high-pitched giggle. She lowered the pistol she'd been holding behind her back—unbeknownst to Chen until that very moment. "I almost had to correct your thinking! Hehe."
Chen broke out in a cold sweat. Note to self: Never underestimate the 'Loose Cannon' passive. "You'll have your chance to shoot soon. Look."
Minutes earlier, at the Hexgate pier, the scene had been a bloodbath. Sevika had led the charge, punching the duty administrator into a coma before he could even ask for a bribe. With the main Enforcer force distracted at the bridge, the pier's defenses were hollow.
"Open the cargo bay," Silco commanded, his voice as cold as the steel deck.
The doors hissed open. A hundred Shimmer Warriors, eyes glowing with chemical rage, poured out like a purple tide. It was a slaughter. The elite Enforcers tried to hold a perimeter, but they were single-shot riflemen against mountain-sized mutants.
Then, a neon-blue streak cut through the air.
"Fire at will!" Chen roared.
"YAY!" Jinx screamed. She didn't wait to land. She hopped off her board mid-air, her braids flying like twin fuses. "I'll give you three seconds! Three!"
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
A volley of Flame Chompers erupted among the Shimmer Warriors. Jinx landed in a crouch, Pow-Pow already spinning. The sound of her Gatling gun joined the screams as she mowed down the foremost mutants.
"It's them again!" Sevika snarled, her mechanical arm sparking. "Kill the girl first!"
Seven Shimmer Warriors broke off from the main slaughter, charging Jinx. Chen didn't hesitate. He slammed into the ground between them, his streetlamp glowing with a golden light.
Passive Proc: Duelist's Dance.
In Chen's vision, glowing white marks appeared on the giants. Vitals.
He lunged. A Shimmer Warrior swung a massive rusted pipe; Chen sidestepped with the grace of a dancer, slamming the base of his lamppost into the monster's kidney.
3% True Damage + 40 Heal.
The giant roared, clutching its side as if it had been hit by a lightning bolt.
"Counter Strike!"
Chen began to spin his lamp, absorbing the blows from the surrounding circle. As Jinx's bullets shredded the armor of the monsters behind him, Chen waited for the perfect moment.
"Decimate! Die!"
He swung the lamppost in a massive 360-degree arc. The "blade" of the lamp caught four warriors in the neck. Conqueror stacked to maximum instantly, a golden aura radiating from Chen's body. He used the movement speed from his vitals-hit to kite backward, keeping the monsters in Jinx's line of fire.
"Any last words?" Jinx shrieked, her eyes wide with manic joy. "Ha~ None? Then die!"
Headshot. Headshot. Headshot.
The foremost warrior's head snapped back as Jinx emptied a belt into his skull. As he fell, Jinx's eyes turned a brilliant, glowing violet.
Passive Proc: Get Excited!
She became a blur of motion, her attack speed doubling. She zoomed behind Chen, using him as a human shield while she rained lead on Sevika's reinforcements.
"How are they this strong without the Goddess?!" Sevika hissed, signaling twenty more warriors to surround the pair.
Chen looked at the closing circle and then at the wounded but still lethal Sevika. "Come top lane for a 1v1 man-to-man fight, you coward!" Chen shouted.
Sevika ignored the taunt, closing the trap. Chen gripped his lamp, preparing to pop his Unbreakable Will to make a break for it. They were outnumbered ten to one.
Just then, a system notification flared in his vision, shimmering with a new color:
Battle Phase: SYNERGY ACTIVATED. Bond: Sisters (Vi & Jinx) Bond: Enforcer (Caitlyn)
From the rooftop above the pier, a blue flare streaked through the sky. A heavy, metallic thud shook the ground as a figure in massive Hextech gauntlets smashed into the center of the Shimmer Warriors.
"Need a hand, little sister?" Vi's voice echoed, her knuckles glowing with arcane power.
Beside her, a perfectly aimed shot from a long-range rifle tore through the canister on a Shimmer Warrior's back. Caitlyn stood on the ledge, her Sheriff's badge gleaming. "This pier is under the jurisdiction of the Sheriff. Drop your weapons!"
Chen grinned, his Duelist's Dance finding a new set of vitals on Sevika. "The full roster is here. Now the real game starts."
