the city is not sleeping.It's not just awake,
it is alert.
Giant screens across every block ignite at the same time.
Blue,Red,Grey.
No color stays stable Drones far more than usual trace perfect circles above human heads.No one realizes
This is not surveillance.
This is synchronization.
The hostel rooftop,,
Wind cuts across his skin,But inside Elior there is no wind.Only sounds,Not one,Not two,Hundreds.His head is no longer part of his body.
It is becoming
a node of the city.

Time is no longer outside him.It's inside.
The rooftop door opens,,Mara.
Tonight,she isn't an officer.She's just a person.
"You know this,"she says quietly.

There's no fear there,,Only exhaustion.

The next second the city opens before him.Roads become lines,People become data points.One signal stands apart.

First year,Quiet,Alone.
The system pattern is changing.

Beneath the city,Old metro lines.Abandoned tunnels.Here less CCTV.But stronger signal,Lights turn on by themselves.

tries to become a weapon.
He grips the student's fear,The bindings loosen.Screens flicker.

"Go!" Elior shouts.
The student falls,Stands,Runs.
Suddenly!!!
Elior drops to his knees blood from his nose.The city spins,
"Neural burn initiated."Mara grabs him.
"Enough! This is enough!"
But Elior smiles.
"At least one…"...
Behind them a screen lights up.Another camera.Another room.
Another student.
Lights off,,,A single step,,No sound.
ALERT CLEARED.
Elior's eyes widen.
"No…" The voice returns.
"One save,One loss,Balance." "
The city falls silent all at once.Then
on every screen,the same line.
PHASE ONE COMPLETE
OBSERVER CONFIRMED
Drones rise higher,Blue fades.
Red replaces it.
Lyra looks at him,Tonight,she doesn't ask questions.She understands.
"He is no longer just a student"
he stares at the city,

"You'll use me." He closes his eyes.
