Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

The patient smiled and said that seeing Rex reminded him of his deceased son. His son had been the same age as Rex, but he had died in a car accident six years ago. Hearing about the uncle's son made Rex feel sad. Noticing the sadness on Rex's face, the uncle asked, "By the way, what is your name?"

Rex replied, "My name is Rex. What is your name?"

The uncle said, "My name is Vasu."

Rex nodded, and then the uncle asked, "Where are your mother and father?"

Rex started to speak, "My mom and dad…"

He suddenly paused. Why can't I remember? His head began to ache. The pain grew stronger, and he started screaming, "Why can't I remember anything? Who are my parents? Where are they?" His mind felt like it was under immense pressure. Unable to bear it, Rex lost consciousness.

Then the story shifts into a flashback. Rex had suffered two serious head injuries in his life. The first time, he had fallen into a coma. The second time, when a ball struck his head, he slowly began losing his memories. Little by little, his memories faded away over time. He was able to remember his name only because the doctors had repeatedly called him by it when he regained consciousness.

Back in the present timeline, Rex collapses again. Uncle Vasu quickly calls the doctor. The doctor arrives immediately and examines Rex's condition. When Rex regains consciousness, Vasu pays both Rex's hospital bill and his own.

The doctor tells Vasu to take care of himself—and of Rex as well.

Rex remains in shock. He only knows one thing: his name is Rex. Beyond that, he has no memory of who he is or where he came from.

Uncle Vasu brings Rex to his house. From outside the gate, he calls out, and his daughter comes to open the door. As soon as she sees her father, she becomes very happy and hugs him tightly.

"Papa, I missed you so much," she says.

"Yes, my child, I missed you a lot too," Uncle Vasu replies.

Then the girl notices Rex and asks, "Who is this boy?"

Uncle Vasu says, "Meet him. This is Rex. I met him at the hospital. He doesn't have a mother or father. And you always wanted a brother, didn't you? Ever since your brother left this world, you've been very lonely."

Rex listens carefully to their conversation. Then he suddenly speaks, "My name is Rex. It's nice to meet you."

The girl replies, "My name is Jasmine. It's nice to meet you too."

But deep inside, Jasmine is not happy. She feels uneasy, as if someone is coming to take the place of her deceased brother.

Rex enters the house and quietly sits downstairs with Uncle Vasu. Uncle Vasu explains, "Jasmine is twenty-one years old. You can call her your elder sister. Her brother passed away when Jasmine was fifteen."

Rex keeps listening silently. In his heart, he thinks,( Even though I don't know who I am or where I came from, at least for now, I have a family I can call my own) .

Night falls. Uncle Vasu's house has three rooms: one for Uncle Vasu and one for Jasmine, one that used to belong to her brother. The room that belonged to her brother has been empty ever since his death. Uncle Vasu tells Rex, "You can sleep in Rishu's room."

Jasmine takes Rex to Rishu's room, which is on the upper floor. After leaving him there, she says good night and walks away. Rex lies down and soon falls asleep.

In his dream, Rex finds himself tied to a chair. The room is completely dark. He wonders where he is, but then he senses something—someone is standing in front of him. Rex thinks to himself that he cannot see the figure clearly, but he can tell one thing: whatever it is, it is terrifying. He becomes so frightened that he suddenly wakes up.

He realizes it is morning now. "What a dangerous dream," he says to himself. He takes a deep breath and slowly relaxes.

Jasmine comes to wake Rex up, but she sees that he is already awake. She calls him to have tea and says, "Hurry up and finish your breakfast, because after that you have to go to Dad's shop with him."

Rex asks, "Shop?"

Jasmine replies, "Yes, the shop. You'll help Dad there."

Rex agrees.

But deep inside, Rex is still thinking about what he saw in that dream—

What was that thing that scared me so badly?

Rex is having breakfast while sitting with Jasmine and Uncle Vasu. His attention suddenly shifts to the TV. The news is on. It reports that murders in the city have increased rapidly, and kidnapping cases have also risen sharply.

The reason behind these crimes is still unknown, but the police are investigating.

Uncle Vasu says, "I don't know what's happening these days. Crimes have increased so much. Now it feels scary to even go out alone. My children, don't go too far from home by yourselves until things calm down."

Jasmine replies, "Yes, Papa. When you were admitted to the hospital, there was a robbery at the jewelry shop next to our clothing store. Gold and silver worth more than 1.5 crore were stolen. The thieves didn't leave a single trace. It was clearly a well-planned robbery, and the police still haven't caught them."

Uncle Vasu says, "Then we need to be careful too. Otherwise, our clothing shop could also become a target."

Rex says, "Uncle, don't worry. I'll stay with you at the shop and help you."

Uncle Vasu replies, "Alright."

Jasmine teasingly asks Rex, "So, how much have you studied?"

Rex answers, "I don't remember. When I opened my eyes, I was in the hospital, and the doctors were calling me by the name Rex."

Jasmine asks in shock, "What? You've lost your memory? That's really terrible."

Rex then asks, "How much have you studied?"

Jasmine replies, "I'm in my second year of graduation. Can you read written text, Rex?"

"Yes, Didi, I can read," Rex says.

Smiling, Jasmine replies, "Well, at least you remember something."

Hearing this, Rex, Uncle Vasu, and Jasmine all start laughing.

After taking a bath and finishing breakfast, Rex gets ready and sits down. The shop opens at twelve, and it's only ten right now. Jasmine's college starts at eleven. She gets ready to leave for college, and just then Rex says, "Didi, I want to see your college too."

Jasmine smiles and says, "Alright, let's go together. There's still time before the shop opens."

She says to Uncle Vasu, "Papa, I'm taking Rex to the college. We'll come back before the shop opens."

Uncle Vasu replies, "Okay, but don't go too far. Rex, come straight home from the college."

Rex places his hand on his forehead and salutes Uncle Vasu, saying, "Yes sir!"

Hearing this, Uncle Vasu and Jasmine laugh. Inside his heart, Uncle Vasu thinks that it hasn't been long since he met Rex, yet Rex has already blended in so well.

Even if you don't remember anything, Rex… from today onward, you are my son.

Rex and Jasmine say goodbye to Uncle Vasu and leave for college. While walking, Rex asks, "You must have a lot of friends in college, right?"

Jasmine replies, "Yes, I have many friends."

Rex grins and says, "Then you must have a lot of boyfriends too."

Hearing this, Jasmine gets angry at Rex. Rex starts laughing and quickly says, "Hey, Didi, I was just joking. You got angry so fast."

Jasmine snaps back, "You talk too much, kid. Don't joke around like that. I know basic judo and boxing."

Rex, pretending to be scared, says, "Sorry, Didi. I won't say anything like that again."

Jasmine folds her arms and, with an attitude-filled smile, says, "Hmm, forgiven. Be careful next time." She then flexes her biceps and adds, "Be scared of me."

With a small laugh, Rex says, "Didi, you're only older by age. Otherwise, you still look like a kid."

Hearing this, Jasmine gets angry again. The two of them continue walking toward the college, joking and teasing each other.

Then, a boy wearing a hoodie is shown standing at a distance, watching Rex and Jasmine. His face is not visible, but from his body language, it's clear that he is not happy.

Soon after, Rex and Jasmine reach the college. The campus is huge. Seeing it, Rex becomes very excited. "Didi, I want to see the college from inside," he says.

Jasmine replies, "Not today, Rex. I'm getting late. You go home."

Rex agrees and listens to her. After dropping Jasmine at the college gate, he starts heading back home.

On the way, the same hoodie-wearing boy—the one who had been watching them earlier—passes by Rex and deliberately bumps into his shoulder. Rex thinks it was his own mistake and starts apologizing, but the boy doesn't reply. Instead, he glares at Rex angrily.

Just then, someone calls out from behind, "Zackkk…!"

That's when it's revealed that the hoodie-wearing boy's name is Zack. His friends are calling him to go to college. Zack leaves with them, but while leaving, he stares at Rex one last time.

Rex continues walking toward his home, thinking, What a strange guy. I even apologized, and he didn't reply—on top of that, he was glaring at me angrily.

As he walks, his eyes fall on a house nearby. It looks completely abandoned, with no one living there. He notices a small crack in a pipe, and a few drops of water are dripping from it. He ignores it and goes home, then leaves with Uncle Vasu for the shop.

The scene then shifts to Jasmine. She is sitting alone in a corner of the college with her head lowered. Her cheeks are swollen, blood is dripping from her nose, and she is crying.
