"More like who do I need it for?" Maia corrected before a faint smile tugged at the corners of her lips. "I need it for Ian Staniforth. I want you to heal his legs."
The words lingered between them for a few seconds as Xanthe just gazed at her. She knew Maia cared deeply about Ian, but she really didn't see that coming.
"So Ian's condition is the reason you've been searching for a Healing Spell all this time?" she asked in a whisper.
Maia nodded in response.
Part of Xanthe admired her selflessness. Another part just couldn't grasp why she would go that far for him. "Are you really that grateful to him?"
"Yeah," Maia replied in a heartbeat. "I just feel like the only way I can truly repay his kindness is by giving him back what he lost." She leaned back and grinned. "You probably don't know this, but Ian always wanted to be a homicide detective."
Xanthe nodded thoughtfully. Honestly, it suited him.
