He pulled back just a little. His forehead rested against mine. We were both breathing hard, chests moving fast. His voice came out low and shaky. "Would you kiss me like that if you were in love with someone else? Be honest, Sky. I need you to know that this is you! ."
The question hit me like a slap. My heart was pounding so loud I could feel it in my ears. Everything felt messy and wrong. That kiss had woken up feelings I had buried deep. Feelings I did not want to face. Anger rushed up fast to cover the panic.
I pushed him back one step. Not hard, but firm. I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand like I could erase what just happened.
My voice came out sharp. "Love? Who even said anything about love, Jay? That kiss... It proves a point right, right? ."
