"Sa~ it's started!"
"Lapras, use Water Gun!"
Emma's eyes sparkled with excitement as she gave the first command.
Aerodactyl? So what?
Her Lapras wasn't weaker.
Lapras let out a soft cry. Blue energy gathered in its mouth, and a sharp stream of water shot forward instantly.
"Aerodactyl! Use Ancient Power!"
Luna's heart skipped, but she steadied herself and called out clearly.
It was her first real battle.
But she had memorized every move Aerodactyl knew.
Aerodactyl roared, folding its wings slightly as brownish energy surged around it. Large boulders formed midair and blasted forward.
Rock-type Ancient Power!
The two attacks collided in the air. Water crashed against stone—
—but Ancient Power quickly began to push through.
"The power difference shows," Ren observed calmly from the side. "Ancient Power has higher output than Water Gun."
Boom!
Lapras suddenly increased the force of Water Gun. The two moves detonated together, filling the field with smoke and steam.
"Aerodactyl, Dragon Breath! Blow the smoke away!"
Before the haze could settle, Luna gave her next order.
Aerodactyl flapped its massive wings, dispersing the smoke. Blue light flashed in its mouth—
A viscous beam shot downward.
Dragon Breath!
Luna's cheeks flushed.
So cool!
"Lapras, dodge!"
Emma frowned, staying composed.
Lapras twisted its body. Though slow on land, it could still move short distances.
The Dragon Breath struck the ground and exploded behind it.
"Dodge? Then use Bite!"
Aerodactyl dove sharply.
"So fast!" Lucy gasped.
"Aerodactyl's greatest strength is speed," Ren explained. "It was an ancient aerial predator. Its mobility is excellent."
Indeed—
Aerodactyl changed direction mid-dive suddenly.
Luna had seen through Emma's plan.
"You're waiting for it to approach in a straight line."
"Aerodactyl! Change direction!"
With a roar, Aerodactyl swerved sideways midair, then accelerated again from a new angle.
"What?!"
Emma's pupils shrank.
Too fast.
Lapras couldn't react in time.
Crunch!
Aerodactyl's massive jaws clamped down on Lapras's neck.
Lapras cried out in pain.
Lily and Lucy both inhaled sharply.
Those fangs were not decoration.
"Lapras!"
Emma's calm cracked slightly.
Lapras struggled violently, shaking its body with all its strength. Finally, Aerodactyl was thrown off and forced backward.
"Lapras! Dry-Freeze!"
Emma's voice carried anger now.
Cold air condensed rapidly. Frost gathered in Lapras's mouth before blasting forward.
"Ancient Power!"
Boulders formed again in front of Aerodactyl and shot out.
The icy beam slipped through gaps between stones—
But the rocks also smashed into Lapras.
Both Pokémon were struck.
Aerodactyl groaned as frost rapidly spread across its left wing. It dropped heavily to the ground.
Lapras cried out as Ancient Power battered its body.
"So intense…" Lily whispered, eyes wide.
Rock severely hurt Lapras.
Ice severely hurt Aerodactyl.
Both had taken heavy damage.
"Aerodactyl, are you okay?"
Luna's voice trembled slightly.
"Rua!"
Aerodactyl forced itself upright, glaring at Lapras.
But frost nearly covered its left wing.
Flying again would be difficult.
Luna bit her lip.
"Ancient Power! One more time!"
If this was the final exchange—
Then they would finish it here.
Aerodactyl roared and summoned boulders once more.
"Dry-Freeze!" Emma responded instantly.
Lapras sang out, releasing freezing breath again.
Stone and frost collided violently midair.
Both sides poured everything into it.
Boom!!
The attacks exploded together.
A shockwave blasted outward, throwing both Pokémon back.
Smoke cleared slowly.
Ren stepped forward to check.
He paused briefly.
"Aerodactyl and Lapras are both unable to battle."
"It's a draw."
"A draw?!" Lily blinked in disbelief.
"They both knocked each other out?"
Lucy stared in amazement.
They had given everything for their trainers.
Emma and Luna rushed forward immediately, taking out Potions to treat their Pokémon.
"Well done," Luna whispered softly, stroking Aerodactyl's head as it slowly regained consciousness.
Aerodactyl looked dazed, then gave a low sound.
"Of course it's true," Luna smiled brightly. "You were amazing."
Her smile was clean and gentle.
Emma crouched beside Lapras.
"You did great. We didn't lose."
"Want a kilo of fish tonight?"
"Woo~!"
"Two kilos? No, you'll get fat."
"Woo?!"
Watching them, Ren smiled faintly.
This was good.
Very good.

"Boss! I want to draw Pokémon!"
She looked determined.

If she didn't draw again
