Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

"Told you I would be seeing you again real soon, sweet cheeks," Cody says, leaning back in his chair, winking. The windows were left open by holding up a small brown book that says, "Firearms Marksmanship Training."

"You weren't kidding," Abby states, rolling her eyes as she walks forward, taking a seat near the middle. The room had eight other people in it and large glass windows to the left. One of them she recognized was Rosemary, the woman she met the other day.

Rosemary looks over her blue pigtails dangling from her head. Her pink eyes fluttered like those of a butterfly as she gave Abby a stoic look and a slight smile. She put up her right hand.

Abby gave her a cheerful smile, taking a sip of her coffee and getting lost in the eyes of Rosemary. It looks like she doesn't have a soul in her. She says she was going to keep an eye on me, so I guess I need to be on my best behavior.

Rosemary's eyes turned back from her and then towards the chalkboard in front of them with the words "welcome to hell" on it.

"Alright everybody, settle down," a stern woman states as she walks towards the front, her long black hair flowing behind her and her amber eyes as deep as an oak tree.

"I can't believe it has to be the woman I went to the other day. The one who I demanded a salute." She whispered to Luna, who was frantically fidgeting with her goober underneath the desk.

"I hear you," Luna whispers. "I'm trying to do everything I can to focus on deep breathing techniques, so I must stay focused on the goober and on the chalkboard. Thank you for being here for me."

Abby turns her eyes forward to the dark-skinned woman whose face had the same expression as the other day.

"Welcome to day one of hell as I like to say it, learning about each other for a few hours. I need to know that every one of you will have each other's back out on the battlefield. I am your squad leader Captain Monica Dashner from the city of St Lina. You all seem like a lively bunch, so I don't see you have any problem talking about yourself in front of a crowd."

"I don't know if what she says is true," Luna says, tugging at Abby's coat.

"I guess I'll go first." A soft-spoken woman stood up in a long brown skirt with a white top buttoned up to her neck. She had two stars on her right collar and long brunette hair that went down to the back of her hips. "My name is Chaplain Rebecca St. Finsen. I am from a small settlement north of the town of Amor."

"Hold up, you're from the Continent of Eltia?" A man spoke up with an authoritative, yet kind, voice. "Pardon the intrusion, but I must elegantly ask why are you here? And please use max elegance while you respond to me, because based on what you're telling me you shouldn't be here. Your country has remained neutral throughout the 2 ½ years we've been at war. You have done nothing at all to help us, so why come and be in an elite marksmanship class as a woman of faith?"

"First off, it is rude to interrupt, and second, I have no idea what you mean by elegant exuberance. I'm here to serve the cause of our military and to ensure that everyone has the ability to make peace with the goddess before they pass on. You would also do well to know my father taught me how to hunt at a young age and I'm exceptionally good with the shotgun. I may have to take out your kneecaps in order for you to understand the goddess so you can actually pray and be on your knees for once instead of shouting such gibberish."

"Settle down," Captain Dashner says as she took her hand and made a waving motion towards the ground. "There will be plenty of time for bickering down the road."

"That is all I have to say," Rebecca says, bowing and sitting back in her seat.

Captain Dashner lowers her head as she shifted her eyes to the young man who interrupted the chaplain. "Why don't you go next, since you want to talk so much?"
