Chapter 57 - to comfortable to wake up

Morning light slipped quietly through the curtains.

Jay was still wrapped in Keifer's arms, her cheek resting on his chest, one leg tangled with his like it had always belonged there.

Neither of them had moved since the night.

Keifer stirred first.

Instead of opening his eyes… he tightened his hold on her.

Jay made a small sleepy sound and buried her face deeper into his neck.

"Don't move," she whispered.

He smiled against her hair.

"I wasn't planning to."

They stayed like that—half awake, half dreaming—breathing each other in, fingers lazily tracing familiar skin, hearts slow and peaceful.

A soft knock came at the door.

"Jay?" Serina's voice floated in gently.

"Keifer?"

No answer.

Inside the room, Jay only hugged him tighter.

Keifer whispered against her ear, playful and lazy,

"If we pretend we're asleep… she might go away."

Jay shook her head slightly, a tiny laugh escaping her lips.

Too late.

The door opened slowly.

Serina stepped in and stopped.

For a moment, she just watched them—completely wrapped around each other, warm, safe, unwilling to let go.

She cleared her throat.

"Good morning, you two."

Jay groaned softly and pressed her face into Keifer's chest.

"Five more minutes, Mama…"

Keifer didn't even open his eyes.

"Please," he added quietly.

"We had a very… exhausting night of doing nothing."

Serina raised an eyebrow.

"Of course you did."

She walked closer and gently tugged at the blanket.

"Breakfast is ready."

Jay finally lifted her head a little, hair messy, eyes still heavy with sleep.

"But… I'm very comfortable."

Keifer kissed her forehead without thinking.

"So am I."

Serina shook her head, smiling helplessly.

"You both are impossible."

She turned toward the door.

"But if you don't come down in ten minutes… I'm sending Keigan and Keiren to drag you out."

That worked.

Jay gasped and looked at Keifer in horror.

"No. Not them."

Keifer laughed softly and pulled her closer one last time.

"Okay… okay. We'll come."

But even after Serina left…

Neither of them moved immediately.

They stayed like that for a few more quiet seconds—

wrapped in each other, holding on to the morning like it was something precious.

Because sometimes…

love feels best

when you refuse to let the day begin.
