BWDC:SDDK Chapter 35: What Is This? Pacific Buoy?
"Huh? What is this? All-Age Recognition System?"
Ren Ichimonji blinked, looking at the system page displayed on the microcomputer with some confusion.
"Seriously? I just casually hacked into a nearby surveillance camera to test the waters. How did I end up here? Is this even still within the country? Why is the United Nations logo on the system page? What is this?"
--- Yesterday, after seeing that supernatural item priced at only one hundred points.
After hesitating again and again, Ren decided to bite the bullet and make the purchase.
He bought it! At this price point, what more could he ask for? It was certainly better than the carcinogenic Kryptonite or that useless Batman Credit Card. His original point balance was as high as one hundred and forty-five, but now only thirty-five remained.
One hundred points were exchanged for this [Special Use Microcomputer], and another ten points were spent in the system mall for a wheelchair—this wheelchair actually counted as a Batman gadget and could be placed inside [Batman's Six-Slot Utility Belt]! Though he didn't know the logic behind it, it seemed that as long as it was identified as a Batman gadget, it could be put inside, and it only occupied one slot.
Therefore, he decided that next time, he would use his points to get a Batmobile.
He would get the exact same model of the Batmobile dump truck used by Batman. If he encountered some difficult jerk, he would use the [Flying Car from Heaven] move to send that jerk and his cover straight to another world! Of course, as everyone knows, Batman doesn't kill.
All Batmobiles are supernatural items with special effects. Even if you hit someone at 120 mph and send them flipping 360 degrees through the air before they hit the ground—even if the front of the vehicle has large spikes that can instantly pierce through walls! It still wouldn't kill anyone! That is the power of Batman's gadgets! --- Back to the matter at hand.
After obtaining the new supernatural item, Ren's first instinct was to test its quality.
Just like [Batman's Coffee Cup], if he didn't test the effects in advance, it could be very troublesome or even fatal. After all, the [Special Use Microcomputer] was an item with negative side effects.
Although he could use both items together and still dominate even while in a wheelchair.
But, if it wasn't necessary, he didn't plan on taking such a big risk. This kind of item was best enjoyed privately when no one was around and it was safe, rather than showing it off outside.
Then, the moment this microcomputer connected to the internet.
Relying on computer skills at the same level as Oracle, Ren immediately discovered that there were surveillance cameras nearby—and they were pointed at a corner of the park where few people went! It looked suspicious at first glance! So, he directly used the program of this surveillance camera to test the waters.
As a result, upon tracing back, he actually hacked directly into a mysterious program system bearing the United Nations logo, which also had the English label [All-Age Recognition System]!
Ren couldn't help but feel a sense of awe.
Although he didn't know the full situation, it seemed he had stumbled into a big mess. He would take a quick look and then flee. If he stayed too long and the effect of the [Special Use Microcomputer] expired, wouldn't he be finished?
He rolled his wheelchair a bit closer.
His fingers danced like flying sparks, quickly scanning the database of this special system, and then his eyelids jumped.
--- This database was linked to the criminal files of every nation except for the mysterious great eastern power. Authorized by Interpol, its monitoring range covered the entire globe, aiming to use this system to catch criminals hiding their identities!
When Ren saw that the main database IP for this system was actually within Japan, he immediately realized what was going on.
Isn't this the Pacific Buoy project mentioned in the Detective Conan movie Black Iron Submarine? Right now, everyone hasn't even fully transitioned to the touchscreen smartphone era, and your global surveillance system is already online? What? Only half a year has passed from the first episode of Conan to the latest plot? Then it's fine.
"Since I'm already here, I'll bury a mine before I go," Ren muttered softly, quickly writing a set of highly stealthy trigger programs.
Then, he checked the time and found that two and a half minutes had passed. Fearing that the item's duration might only be a short "Kun-minute," Ren immediately beat a hasty retreat.
From the moment Ren hacked in until he left, the programmers executing the Pacific Buoy project noticed absolutely nothing.
As programmers in the world of Conan, they might be outstanding enough, but in front of the uncanny Bat-family, they were still quite inferior. Perhaps in this world, there is only one person... no, it should be said, one intelligent program.
Only that intelligent program would have the possibility of facing Oracle head-on in the field of computing, right?
"Two minutes and thirty-seven seconds."
Ren closed the special use microcomputer.
He turned his head to look at the timer beside him, sensing the condition of his lower body, quietly waiting for the item's effect duration to end—he only needed to see when he would regain sensation in his lower body.
Time passed second by second.
Finally, when the timer reached exactly five minutes, Ren's body regained sensation.
He immediately stood up straight from the wheelchair.
"As expected, the feeling of being able to move freely is better."
Ren moved his body slightly to relax.
After all, he didn't have a Stand, he didn't know the Golden Spin, and he couldn't race horses. For him, sitting in a wheelchair provided no positive effects other than roleplaying a certain famous internet personality.
He pressed the button on the timer next to him to reset it to zero.
Ren then put his wheelchair, along with the microcomputer, into his six-slot utility belt. He took out his coffee, took a sip, and his mental state instantly returned to its peak.
All negative effects cleared; he felt refreshed!
He went to the window, looking toward the Mouri Detective Agency on the other side, recalling the "mine" he had just buried in the Pacific Buoy project—
This was an instinct of the Bat-family.
Every member of the Bat-family would subconsciously leave a targeted backup plan on anything dangerous. As the Batman of Beika Town, Ren was naturally no exception.
The program he left inside the All-Age Recognition System could cause the system to instantly paralyze the moment it was activated or if the code leaked.
When Ren checked again the following night, he would naturally be able to discover where the problem with the All-Age Recognition System lay.
What? What if the technicians at Pacific Buoy were talented enough to crack the program Ren left behind? If you can crack code that referenced the program of the super AI Brainiac, then I, Ren, will accept it. Nothing to complain about; that would be a true god-tier person, ahead of the current era by at least several thousand years!
"Hmm? A message?"
Ren pulled the antique phone with a message alert tone from his pocket and pressed the read key.
Then, looking at the content inside, he couldn't help but be stunned.
[Text Message: Um... I want to invite you to go with me to the TWO-MIX concert held at the Tokyo Budokan tomorrow. If you're willing... I hope you can reply... I'll have Ran bring the ticket to you...]
[Sender: Suzuki Sonoko]
Why does it feel like this tomboyish girl is unexpectedly shy?
Ren pressed the reply button to agree, though he was still a bit confused.
TWO-MIX? What is that? Is it a singer duo like Phoenix Legend?
