Chapter 60 - BWDC:SDDK Chapter 60: Kicking Away Conan’s Microphone!

BWDC:SDDK Chapter 60: Kicking Away Conan's Microphone!

Tokyo Budokan.

In the audience stands, the massive crowd had been waiting for a long time. They frequently lifted their wrists to check the time on their watches, whispering fervently among themselves.

--- This was too strange.

Under normal circumstances, a concert should have a warm-up phase. No matter how talented an idol singer might be, it was impossible to instantly ignite the audience's emotions and get them into the rhythm from a dead start. This was especially true for a veteran idol duo like TWO-MIX. They couldn't possibly have forgotten such a crucial step as the pre-show warm-up.

Unless there had been some kind of performance accident that prevented them from starting.

"Ran, what do you think is going on?"

Suzuki Sonoko asked Mouri Ran, who was sitting in the front row, with a look of confusion. She checked the time again; there were only five minutes left until the official start of the concert. The ticket-checking period had long since passed, yet Ren Ichimonji still hadn't returned.

Not only was Ren missing, but there wasn't even a glimpse of TWO-MIX. Mouri Ran had been holding her bouquet of fresh flowers this whole time, and she hadn't had the chance to present them yet. This naturally made Suzuki Sonoko a bit worried. It was one thing for Ren to stand her up, but why was TWO-MIX doing it too?

Was she born with some kind of "perpetual ghosting" constitution?

The Control Room.

The person in charge of the Tokyo Budokan turned pale with fright upon hearing Inspector Megure's explanation. There was a security risk at the Budokan during this performance?

This was a massive event involving 14,000 spectators. If anything went wrong today, he would have to resign in disgrace regardless of the reason! This was no laughing matter!

"Then... the person who went to check for hidden traps... where is he?" the Budokan manager asked, swallowing hard.

Hearing this, Inspector Megure hesitated for a moment before speaking. "He has already gone onto the stage."

Budokan Manager: ?

Are you kidding me? No notice, no coordination, and he's already on stage?

The manager's face twisted in horror. He quickly turned to the surveillance monitors, searching the stage area for Ren Ichimonji's location.

At that moment, Takagi Wataru arrived, breathless, accompanied by the members of the Junior Detective League. They had rushed back without stopping after learning at the subway station that the kidnapping case had been resolved. Whether it was Takagi or the children, they were completely in the dark regarding the current situation. They watched the Budokan manager, who was practically pressed against the monitors, with looks of utter bewilderment.

However, the kids didn't care what the manager was doing. Genta asked panting, "Um, Inspector Megure... what about Minami-san and the others? Are they really safe?"

Ayumi followed up anxiously, "And Conan? Was the kidnapped Conan released?"

Inspector Megure nodded immediately and replied, "They have all been rescued. Since the concert is about to start, Takayama Minami and Nagano Shiina have gone backstage to touch up their makeup and change clothes for the performance. Conan went backstage with them."

Genta, Mitsuhiko, Ayumi: ?

What is Conan doing backstage? He doesn't want to perform on stage, does he? If so, we're really doomed...

Others might not know, but how could the Junior Detective League not? Just a few days ago, Conan went to karaoke with Mouri Ran and Suzuki Sonoko. The moment he opened his mouth, his voice shocked the world. In the end, the karaoke bar owner actually paid Conan to show mercy and stop terrorizing his private rooms.

Now that Conan had gone backstage, if he actually started singing, wouldn't the 14,000 audience members in the Budokan be in mortal danger?

"Sonoko, look! Someone is on stage!"

Mouri Ran suddenly pointed toward the stage in surprise. For some reason, a thick mist had begun to swirl across the floor. Spotlights danced wildly across the platform before snapping into focus, all of them converging on a mysterious figure wearing a black cape.

Even though the person's back was toward the audience, many people felt that this mysterious caped man looked incredibly cool. As everyone knows, "cool" is an aura. For some people, the mere vibe they project is enough to command attention.

Suzuki Sonoko's attention was instantly captured by the appearance of the mysterious man. She stared at him, subconsciously comparing his silhouette to that of Kaito Kid. Sonoko didn't know many people who wore capes; the only one she could think of was her idol, the Phantom Thief.

However, while Sonoko was still making silent comparisons in her head, the mysterious man suddenly whipped his head around toward the audience. Smoke erupted violently, swallowing his form. By the time the mist cleared, the man had vanished.

In the next heartbeat, the spotlights hitting that spot flickered out. The audience broke into a flurry of discussion about this impromptu magic trick, assuming it was some kind of novel opening act.

But Suzuki Sonoko grabbed Mouri Ran's shoulder, her voice trembling with shock as she pointed at the stage. "Ran, did you see that? That... that mysterious caped man just now..."

"He looked exactly like Ren!"

Mouri Ran: ?

Are you hallucinating? How could Ren be on stage? Besides, that entrance and exit were so cryptic; it was clearly a professional magic performance. Since when did Ren know magic...

Mouri Ran fell silent as she reached that thought. Come to think of it, Ren actually did know magic. His "magic hands" had turned into coffee cups right in front of her more than once, and she hadn't been able to spot a single flaw. Combined with her previous suspicion that Ren might be Kaito Kid...

Ran couldn't help but wonder: Could Ren really be that world-famous phantom thief?

While Ran and Sonoko were speculating, Takayama Minami's voice suddenly rang out.

"I—"

However, the singing stopped abruptly almost as soon as it began. The audience was left bewildered. Minami's voice had appeared too strangely—how could an idol singer perform a cappella at a concert? They hadn't heard a single note of accompaniment! And why did it stop so suddenly? Did something happen?

In fact, something had happened.

Having entered his one-minute "Batman Mode," Ren Ichimonji had quickly scanned the Tokyo Budokan stage. He hadn't found any physical threats.

Until he saw Conan.

To liven things up, Conan had grabbed a microphone and appeared at the entrance between the backstage area and the stage. Then, he let out his first high note—

Ren: ?

His dual intuition—as the "Little Batman of Beika" and the "Big Batman of Gotham"—screamed a warning at him. Without a second thought, Ren made the most correct choice of his day.

He launched a flying kick, directly sending Conan's microphone flying. He didn't give Conan even a fraction of a second to continue singing.

Almost simultaneously, the system screen lit up.

Ren's lip twitched. No wonder there was only 1% left on the progress bar—the final "threat" was right here with Conan.

He looked at Conan, who was staring blankly at his kicked-away microphone, and said seriously:

"If you can't sing, don't sing!"

"Murder is not something the Bat-Family should be doing!"

Conan: ?

Murder? Me?

I know my singing is a bit rough, but isn't that a little too hurtful?
