Annie and Aya are chatting when Kayla approaches.
Annie: Where have you been? Your food is cold now.
Kayla: Just finishing some work… what's for lunch?
Annie: Broccoli, beans, and steamed rice. What else could they give us?
She rolls her eyes.
Kayla: Ew, man. I hate vegetables and beans. Can't we grab some steak from the restaurant on the school street corner?
Annie: No, it's closed today. I heard the owner is in debt and is thinking of selling it.
Kayla: No way! It's the only restaurant with good steak.
Aya: Yeah… it would be our loss if that closed.
Annie: By the way, where's Theo today? He didn't come to school.
Kayla: Yeah, he'll come tomorrow. He went to visit his grandma in Japan over the weekend, so he'll arrive tonight.
Aya walks off to talk to Leon. Kayla leans closer and whispers to Annie.
Kayla: How is he?
Annie: He's okay… but not too good. He's been gone for a week.
Kayla: For a week? Where? Why?
Annie: I heard his mother wasn't feeling well, so he went back to the province to see her.
Kayla: Oh… when will he return?
Annie: I'm not sure, but according to the application he submitted to the principal, he'll return next week.
Kayla: Oh God… a whole week without seeing him. It's like a lack of love.
And having to see this boring school for an entire week just adds more pain to it.
She makes a dramatic expression.
The bell rings.
A teacher shouts:
Teacher: Go back to your classes, students! The lunch break has ended!
