Chapter 54 - CHAPTER 54: Not Alone

KAYLA'S POV (continuing) :

I looked around suspiciously, thinking it was some prank… but then I noticed a note.

"Have a good day :) 🌸"

It was him.

I rolled my eyes… but I had no other choice except to wear it.

After getting ready, I went for a walk in the hallway. The hostel gave us one hour before breakfast, and I only needed ten minutes.

Suddenly… someone pulled me into a corner.

"What the....?!"

It was him.

He made me sit on a chair… then bent down and tied my shoelaces tightly.

God… such a pain.

Why does he even care?

But something about his touch… I never resisted.

Then he stood behind me, pulled out a comb, and started combing my hair. It was frizzy and tangled, and the comb kept getting stuck… but somehow he managed.

He braided it carefully… then placed a small flower pin near my forehead.

After finishing, he ran to the corner and brought a broken mirror.

"Look!"

I looked at myself.

Something was different. Something I had never seen before.

"Is that… me?"

He nodded.

"The prettiest girl I've ever met."

For the first time… a gentle smile appeared on my face.

Even the demonic side inside me paused in awe.

No one could ever guess… that I was also a monster… looking like this.

When I entered the classroom, everyone was shocked. Even the teacher couldn't believe what she was seeing.

I ignored their stares and walked to my seat.

He was already there… hiding his smile behind his book.

As days passed, we became closer and closer.

He talked endlessly about his day… even though he spent it with me. Somehow, he never ran out of things to say.

He gave me flowers every day.

We ate lunch together.

And we both complained about the horrible boarding school food.

For the first time… I wasn't alone.

After a few weeks, I decided to show him my true self.

He said he liked everything about me… so I believed him.

I called him to the old playground behind the school, our secret meeting spot.

He arrived with flowers in his hands, smiling gently.

Slowly… I revealed my true form.

My eyes turned dark red like blood.

My teeth sharpened into monstrous fangs.

A dark shadow surrounded me.

His eyes widened in horror.

The flowers fell from his hands.

And then… he screamed.

He ran away.

Terrified.

That moment felt like waking up from a beautiful dream… only to be crushed by reality.

He never came back after that.

The next day, I heard he had transferred schools.

Maybe… because of me.

The dark clouds returned to my life again.

But I promised myself… I would never give up on him.

In middle school, I somehow found his address.

Even as a child, he worked in a café. His father had died, and he carried the responsibility of his mother and younger sister on his shoulders. He worked day and night.

Sometimes, I went there…

I stood outside the glass window, watching him clean tables and serve customers.

My hand would reach for the door handle…

But then the flashback of that day, him running away in fear, would stop me.

So I would step back.

And just watch him… from a distance…

As seasons came and went.

Then I moved to Manila.

I thought I would never see him again.

It was too far. Too impossible.

I almost gave up hope.

When I joined high school, I was standing near the notice board, looking at the list of new students with sadness.

Then suddenly… someone behind me pointed at the list.

I turned.

My eyes widened in shock.

It was him.

My heart exploded with happiness. It felt like destiny had brought us together again.

But he simply looked at the list and walked toward the counter to ask something, not even noticing me.

I just stood there… smiling like an idiot.

Even now…

I still don't have the courage to confess to him.
