Chapter 28 - Hijacking the Signal

The plan to hijack the council's broadcast system was ambitious and dangerous, but Akira knew it was their best chance to rally the school. Over the next two days, the team meticulously prepared, studying the layout of the broadcast tower, identifying its vulnerabilities, and coordinating with their growing network of allies.

The broadcast tower was one of the most secure locations in the school, second only to the A-Rank Tower. The council used it to project their authority, streaming propaganda and announcements across the campus. But if Akira's team could seize control, it would become their platform to expose the council's lies.

The resistance gathered in their usual meeting spot, the abandoned classroom filled with the hum of tension and determination. A holographic map of the broadcast tower floated in the center of the room, its glowing lines casting an eerie light on the group.

Lian stood at the front, her fingers dancing over a control pad as she highlighted key points on the map. "The tower has three main systems we need to target: the security grid, the main broadcast relay, and the auxiliary power core. If we take all three offline, the system will be ours."

"Sounds simple enough," Kazuki said with a smirk. "Just tell me where to break things."

"It's not simple," Mira interjected firmly. "The tower is crawling with enforcers, and the moment we're detected, they'll flood the place."

Rika frowned. "Then how do we get in without setting off alarms?"

"That's where I come in," Lian said. "I'll disrupt the security grid temporarily, creating a window for you to move. But it won't last long, so you'll need to be quick."

Akira nodded. "Once we're in, Kazuki and Rika will handle the power core. Mira and I will take the relay room. Lian, you stay outside and keep the grid down as long as you can."

Kenji, their newest ally, leaned against the wall, his arms crossed. "And what about me?"

Akira glanced at him. "You're backup. If something goes wrong, we'll need you to cover us."

Kenji grunted but nodded. "Fine."

The team approached the broadcast tower under the cover of darkness. The structure loomed over the school, its spire pulsing with faint golden light. The air was charged with energy, and the hum of machinery echoed faintly in the stillness.

Lian crouched near a console hidden in the shadows, her fingers working quickly to disable the security grid. "Almost there," she whispered, her Sigil creating a sound-dampening field around her.

"Hurry," Akira said, his flames flickering faintly as he scanned the area.

"There," Lian said as the grid's glow dimmed. "You've got five minutes before it reboots. Go!"

The team slipped through the now-unlocked side entrance, moving swiftly through the narrow corridors. The interior of the tower was a maze of metal and glowing conduits, its walls vibrating with the energy of the broadcast systems.

At a junction, the team split into two groups.

"Kazuki, Rika, with me," Lian said, pointing toward the path leading to the power core. "Let's make some noise."

"Be careful," Akira said as they departed.

Mira and Akira continued toward the relay room, their steps silent as they moved deeper into the tower. The air grew warmer, and the hum of the machinery grew louder.

"This feels too quiet," Mira said, her shadowy tendrils flickering. "They should've noticed us by now."

"They will," Akira said grimly. "Let's finish this before they do."

Kazuki, Rika, and Lian reached the power core—a massive chamber filled with glowing conduits and pulsing energy fields. The core itself was a towering cylinder of golden light, its base surrounded by a web of intricate runes.

"Alright, Sparky," Rika said, her barrier Sigil flaring. "Time to do your thing."

Kazuki grinned, sparks dancing along his hands. "Watch and learn."

He launched a bolt of electricity at the core, disrupting the runes and causing the energy field to flicker.

"Keep it up," Lian said, her fingers flying over a control pad as she disabled a nearby console. "We need to take it offline completely."

The chamber doors burst open. A squad of enforcers stormed in, their Sigils blazing.

"So much for quiet," Rika muttered, raising her barrier to deflect an incoming blast.

Kazuki stepped forward, his grin widening. "Let's dance."

Meanwhile, Akira and Mira reached the relay room, a circular chamber dominated by a massive control console and a network of glowing cables. The main relay pulsed with golden light, its energy feeding into the tower's broadcast systems.

"This is it," Mira said, her shadowy tendrils wrapping around the cables. "If we take this down, the tower is ours."

Akira nodded, his flames igniting as he approached the console. "Let's make it count."

He drove his blade into the base of the relay, the flames surging as they began to disrupt the system. The golden light flickered, and the machinery groaned in protest.

Suddenly, a powerful force slammed into Akira, sending him crashing into the wall.

"Not so fast," a cold voice said.

Akira looked up to see Serena standing in the doorway, her amber eyes glowing with power. Her Sigil flared around her, a swirling vortex of silver light that radiated authority.

"You should've stayed in your place," Serena yelled, stepping forward.

Mira moved to intercept her, her shadowy tendrils lashing out, but Serena deflected them effortlessly, her Sigil cutting through the shadows like a blade.

Akira stood, his blade reigniting. "This isn't your fight, Serena. Stand down."

Serena's smirk was cold. "You've made it my fight. Let's see if you're ready for the consequences."

As the tower's systems began to flicker and fail, the battle between Akira, Mira, and Serena raged in the relay room. Sparks flew, shadows clashed with light, and flames roared as the two forces collided.

In the power core, Kazuki and Rika fought to hold off the enforcers while Lian worked frantically to finish disabling the core.

The entire tower trembled as the resistance made their stand, their determination burning brighter than ever.

But the council wasn't going down without a fight.
