A fluffy white Samoyed puppy snarled, charging at Old Hag Crawford.
"She's poisonous." A light, airy voice drifted over.
Hearing Renee Jennings's voice, Bella slammed on the brakes, turned, and sprinted back.
"Poisonous! So scary!"
Rhea Dempsey turned her head to look, asking in surprise, "Why did you come down?"
"Waiting for a friend," Renee Jennings replied.
In truth, she had heard a puppy crying for help from upstairs.
She hadn't expected to find Old Hag Crawford, that old hag, bullying a puppy.
The little black dog recognized Renee Jennings. It ran out from under the stone table to her side, looking pitiful. "Renee, it's me, Boo!"
"Boo?" Renee Jennings reached out and stroked its head, asking in confusion, "What are you doing here?"
Boo was a stray dog from near Prosperity Gardens.
"Renee, Goldie is missing!" Boo said urgently. "I've been looking for her for days and can't find her. Can you help me?"
