"That's the situation in a nutshell. You've seen most of it already. I've had my people go and verify what he said. If it all checks out, he'll be free to go."

Drew Thorne politely shook the man's hand.
"It's no problem. Why don't you two find a place to sit for now? I have to get back to work."
With that, he turned to leave. The police station was a chaotic buzz of activity.
Although it was well past quitting time, no one was making a move to leave. They were all buried in work, looking utterly swamped.
Jane Sterling sighed.
"These officers really have it tough."
Drew Thorne nodded and led Jane Sterling to a nearby bench.
He opened the stack of files, and Jane Sterling's eyes fell upon the photos of Susan Quinn at her time of death. A pang of grief shot through her.
She looked away.
"Who on earth would want to kill Susan Quinn? She didn't really have enemies."
'At least, not the kind of enemies who would want her dead.'
