The village chief stood to one side, whispering quietly in Jane Sterling's ear.
"The Warren family has an overabundance of women and a shortage of men. They were short on male heirs to begin with. On top of that, their adopted son, Old Man Warren himself, and his youngest son are all gone. There aren't really any men left in the family now. The one lying on the floor in the middle is Old Man Warren. His mother is already almost ninety, one of the most long-lived elders in our village. Everyone respects her. The woman beside her is Old Man Warren's wife, and next to her is his sister. The others over there are his older sisters, nieces, and the like."
Jane Sterling nodded, indicating she understood.
'So, it seems Old Man Warren's family is still quite large, all things considered.'
Jane Sterling walked over to Hailey Warren and gently crouched down.
"Do you still remember them?"
Jane Sterling's words made the trembling members of the Warren family even more terrified.
