Chapter 15: Camp Daily Life (Part 2)

After a frantic back-and-forth between the two, Jenny finally gave in and accepted Johnny's kindness, then walked over to the Stable to continue eating her breakfast.

Johnny stood up gently and walked toward Mr. and Mrs. Adler's room with steady steps. However, when he pushed open the door, it was empty, with not a soul in sight.

This made Johnny frown slightly, but he didn't give up. Instead, he turned to continue searching the other rooms.

Finally, he stopped at the door of the ladies' room. Through the crack in the door, he heard Sadie and Arthur inside talking excitedly about something with Abigail.

Johnny didn't barge in; instead, he gently opened a crack and slipped into the room like a ghost.

At this moment, he didn't want to break this harmonious and beautiful atmosphere, preferring to listen to their conversation in silence.

Abigail's face was filled with longing, her gaze falling on Arthur with desire as she spoke incessantly of her yearning for ranch life.

Arthur, with a smile on his face, responded to Abigail's questions with great patience.

"First of all, to run a ranch well, choosing the right breeds is a crucial step!" Arthur said slowly, his voice warm and magnetic, making one involuntarily want to listen carefully.

"We have to carefully select excellent breeds to ensure the cattle and sheep grow healthily and produce high-quality meat and milk." He then described in detail how to choose suitable breeds based on different needs and environmental conditions.

Subsequently, Arthur began to talk about experience in breeding: "Besides selecting breeds, daily feeding and management cannot be neglected. You must provide them with sufficient food and clean drinking water, and regularly clean the pens to maintain a good hygienic environment."

At this point, Arthur paused slightly and took a sip of water to moisten his throat.

Next, he continued to share: "When these cattle and sheep grow up, you have to consider how to find suitable buyers to sell them. At that time, you should pay more attention to market trends, understand price fluctuations, and establish cooperative relationships with some reliable Merchants.

But, you also have to be careful to avoid various Gang forces. After all, they sometimes target our goods and try everything to sabotage us. So, you must be extra careful usually and try not to attract their attention."

Throughout the process, Arthur spoke vividly, while Abigail listened with full concentration, nodding in agreement from time to time.

Sadie, standing nearby, occasionally chimed in with a few words, adding interesting details or offering her own opinions. The three were thus immersed in a heated discussion about ranch management, completely unaware of Johnny standing quietly beside them.

(The snowy mountains online are the territory of the Skinners Gang, so in the author's eyes, Mr. and Mrs. Adler are at least not two defenseless people.)

Abigail grew more excited as she spoke, but when she saw the injured John nearby, she immediately felt a sense of disappointment in him.

(In other words, John's recovery was actually always in the girls' dormitory.)

At this time, Ms. Grimshaw also noticed Johnny's arrival, standing up to get a chair from nearby. Johnny cast a grateful glance and took the chair.

Before long, the four girls—Tilly, Mary-Beth, Karen, and Jenny—finished their dinner laughing and talking, and returned to the room together.

Just then, Johnny, who had been sitting quietly in the corner, was finally noticed by everyone.

Seeing everyone's attention focused on him, Johnny knew the time had come. He stood up calmly, carefully took five 10-dollar bills out of his satchel, and walked toward Arthur.

Approaching Arthur, Johnny smiled as he handed him the bills and explained:

"This is the payment for the cargo delivery from Blackwater Town. Too many unexpected things have happened recently, and I haven't been able to find the time to give it to you. I'm truly sorry!"

Hearing Johnny say this, Arthur hurriedly took the money, smiled, and waved his hand, indicating he didn't mind. In fact, since experiencing that thrilling defense of Adler Ranch, Arthur and Sadie had long regarded the brave and reliable Johnny as family.

Therefore, they naturally wouldn't refuse the payment too much and accepted it readily.

After taking the money, Arthur glanced at his wife Sadie, and the two exchanged a look. Then, Arthur turned back to Johnny and said seriously:

"Johnny, we've discussed it. We plan to sell this ranch once the weather improves and head to an orderly new city in the East.

We'll start a new ranch there. What do you think? Are you willing to come with us and continue our partnership?"

After speaking, Arthur looked at Johnny with expectation, waiting for his answer.

"Uh~ Arthur, actually, I plan to join the Van der Linde Gang. You know, I've wanted to be a free-spirited Cowboy since I was a kid!

Besides, me always following you guys wouldn't be a good thing for Little Arthur and Little Sadie."

In truth, Arthur had already guessed the rejection. When he saw Johnny return from Blackwater Town wearing Cowboy gear, he knew it was impossible for Johnny to follow him and be an ordinary person forever.

(Does it feel like the protagonist's behavior is like joining the losing side at the last minute? Actually, think about it: in that era, is it more worthwhile to be a farmer and leave your fate to others, or to pick up a gun and take fate into your own hands?)

However, Johnny stated that although he wouldn't be with the Adlers, he would help them find a suitable ranch.

Seeing the matter concluded, the crowd began to chatter with Johnny. Karen was very bold, being the first to ask how he trained such a large physique, saying that once she learned, she'd make Sean hurry up and train too.

(Although the original host was average with a gun, as an only child, he couldn't have lived in luxury; he must have followed his parents in various ranch duties since childhood.)

Mary-Beth also asked if he had read any books besides "american purgatory"?

Tilly and Jenny were whispering something on the side.

Johnny was overwhelmed; he had only mentioned reading that book yesterday, and by the next day, everyone knew. He wondered which big mouth had told them.

Though his head was spinning, he explained to each of them one by one. Then he expressed strong condemnation toward Jenny's whispering behavior.

After saying all this, Johnny didn't dare sit among the women anymore. He stood up, preparing to go to Little Jack's place to avoid the storm.

Little Jack was sitting next to John taking care of his father. Seeing the tall figure approach, his eyes filled with curiosity as he asked:

"Uncle Johnny, you're so much like Uncle Arthur. Last time, he also came over to talk to me like this."
