Leon's Pov
I stayed on the call a few seconds after she said it.
"I miss you too."
It wasn't loud. It wasn't dramatic. It just sat there like something that didn't know where to go next.
I didn't rush to respond.
Because anything I said after that felt like it needed to be careful.
"I'll see you soon," I said eventually.
"Okay."
There was a pause again.
Not uncomfortable.
Just unfinished.
Then she added, "Don't overwork yourself."
I let out a quiet breath.
"You say that like I listen."
"You don't," she replied immediately.
That made me exhale a little through my nose.
"I'll try."
"Try harder," she said.
"I'm starting to think you like telling me what to do."
"I'm starting to think you need it."
I shook my head slightly.
"That's not fair."
"It is," she replied.
Then she ended the call first.
I stared at my phone for a second after it went silent, then locked it and placed it face down on the desk.
For a moment, I just sat there.
Then I stood up.
