Chapter 4 - The Unsolvable Paradox

"I decree, a Heavenly Mandate has been revealed. A paradox that contradicts the Grand Heavenly Cosmic Order itself. Two valid laws, yet they collide."

Before the Southern Heaven Gates, a mysterious being manifests into the form of a cultivator with this message.

It was the Librarian of the great library of Huangdi.

It seems the anomaly of the primordial void orb has caused two disparate laws of the Grand Heavenly Cosmic Order to clash in a localized dimension.

This caused a mythical "Logic Storm" which threatened to soon erase an entire star system.

As the laws clash, stars shatter like glass.

The Sovereign acts fast; in a breeze, he arrives with Lang Lang at the Boundary of Sweeping Stars.

"Impossible, the Saint of Great Virtue is possessed by a void fragment?!"

Upon hearing this, Lang Lang's knees gradually became soft and trembled.

"No... Master, does this mean, that the Saint of Great Virtue must be eradicated?

But, what will happen to the dimensions of the Age of Right Dharma?"

The Librarian of the great library of Huangdi is also present.

He explains: "I will recite the laws of the Grand Heavenly Cosmic Order.

Paragraph 52: The life of an individual with over ten thousand merits is to be preserved by the Heavenly Court at all costs due to its sacrosanctity.

This law itself would be acceptable, but there is the law of the special decree of void containment.

Paragraph 98, subsection 5: Any vessel contaminated by the Primordial Void's origin fragments, regardless of status, rank and origin, are to be subjected to immediate absolute eradication of existence to prevent entropy leakage.

I suppose the two Seniors can comprehend what this would mean?"

Upon hearing this, the Sovereign remains silent.

Lang Lang, with a tremulous voice, asks:

"This is impossible... If we kill the Saint of Great Virtue now, we would violate the 52nd law of sacrosanctity.

But, If we spare the Saint of Great Virtue, we violate the special decree of void fragment containment!

Heaven above Heavens, we are forsaken!

The law is broken!

Master, your authority will crumble!"

The Librarian only lets out a sigh with a sorrowed expression.

It is known that breaking a law of the Grand Heavenly Cosmic Order brings severe divine intervention.

In this case, it would bring a divine punishment eradicating one's existence.

The Librarian knows, even if this was miraculously solved, killing the Saint of Great Virtue would disrupt the natural flow of all dimensions in the Age of Right Dharma.

However, if they let the Saint of Great Virtue live with the Void Fragment Containment, it would cause a severe entropy leakage, possibly causing the universe itself to finally implode.

"This is... are we really too late? There were no signs and foretellings of this ominousness!", even the Librarian could only add this.

"There is a way to override the Supreme law of the Heavenly Grand Cosmic Order. You may know of it, Librarian," the Sovereign explains after a long period of silence.

"What tremendous boldness! Trying to defy the Heavenly Grand Cosmic Order?!

Although, I believe what you mean is the legendary "Lex Posterior Derogat Lex priori", it means that the newer law can override the older law."

The Sovereign proudly claims:

"Correct. If merely we can find out which of Paragraph 52 or Paragraph 98 was created later, the decision is as clear as it is in black and white.

Bring your Junior, the Historian of the library of Huangdi. Only he is capable of uncovering this secret."

A gleam of light dazzled the sky before the Historian manifested into his physical form.

The Historian was informed of the circumstances and began his research immediately.

*The Historian departs to spend 5000 years in a secluded hyperbolic time chamber from the Sovereign in order to examine the origins of the Grand Heavenly Cosmic Order.*

The Historian returns.

To all the others, mere 5 seconds have passed.

The Historian's face is pale and exhausted.

"I made a groundbreaking discovery.

The Grand Heavenly Cosmic Order was created simultaneously with time itself.

All laws were created at the same time.

Lex Posterior Derogat Lex Priori holds no value anymore."

Hearing this, everyone sighed and except for the Sovereign, they all seemed to have accepted this fate.

The Sovereign asked the Historian, in your 5000 years spent for examining the origins of these laws, have you come across the term Lex Specialis Derogat Lex Generali?

The Historian grew confused.

"I did indeed, but I could not comprehend it. It seems there was a fate restriction for comprehension.

Thus, I neglected the part about it, since there was no point."

In the Sovereign's mind, a spark of hope grew.

He thought to himself:

"If laws of my origin dimension, which lies outside of causality, apply to this world, then perhaps this plan could succeed."

Sovereign replied: "Naturally. To grasp the Hierarchy of Laws, one must stand above Law itself. You sought to understand the 'When' of time, while you should have sought the 'Why', the intent.

Lex Specialis Derogat Lex Generali - the more special law can, under specific circumstances and given conditions, repeal the general law.

Simply put, the more specific provision takes precedence over the more general one.

We attempted to enforce Lex Posterior, only to realize that all laws were etched simultaneously.

Time truly is no refuge for the indecisive in this world.

Observe carefully, disciple, Librarian and Historian.

Paragraph 52 is the Foundation of the law (general law).

It provides the spirit for our existence.

However, Paragraph 98 is the surgical instrument in our case (the special law).

Let us think, was it not specifically designed for the anomaly we now face?

The general law is not inherently wrong, it is broad.

The special law on the other hand is narrow.

Paragraph 98, the special law, thus holds the Mandate of truth!

Truthfully, Paragraph 98 does not demerit the sacrosanctity of Paragraph 52;

Instead, Paragraph 98 prevents the total annihilation through entropy.

Alas, Paragraph 52 symbolizes the heart of the heavens and Paragraph 98 symbolizes the immune system of the universe.

To preserve the body of the heavens, the heart cannot be allowed to poison it.

Of course, this exception only exists because of this anomaly, and will naturally cease to exist along with it.

Lang Lang and the others grew dumbfounded hearing this.

"I am but a disciple of this Sovereign, yet I could not comprehend your grace fully!

If I am not wrong, this means that Paragraph 98: Eradicating any vessel under the void fragment containment is the superior one?"

The Sovereign nods.

With this in mind, Lang Lang finally gained confidence again:

"In this case, enforce Paragraph 98, subsection 5 immediately!

As the representatives of the Heavenly Court, nobody dare stand in our way!"
