"We're going to fly! Hold on tight!"
Geno held Lucia in his arms, his gaze fixed tightly on the incoming artillery shells.
The plan that followed was simple: he was going to blow up the building!
Question: How do you extract someone trapped inside a house?
Answer: If you can't pull them out, blow up the house!
This way, the Ethereals inside the building would be forced to confront the Terrorbirds outside. Moreover, by blowing up the building, both sides would lose a significant amount of combat power, and the probability of Geno and Lucia escaping would increase.
But now, the only problem was how to blow up the building and how to retreat from this catastrophe in one piece.
Geno's idea was—to borrow the chicken to lay the bomb!
He would rely on the firepower of the Terrorbirds to bring the building down, and then he would transform into a bird and glide away from the chaos with Lucia.
Now, he just had to wait for the missiles to get into position...
HOLY CRAP!!!
Geno, who was still waiting for his timing, was so scared by the figure that appeared before him that he almost lost his grip on the wall.
A green-and-white colored Thanatos had suddenly appeared right in front of the two of them.
Geno's expression at this moment was as if he had seen a ghost. Wasn't this guy supposed to never leave the building?!
It didn't follow him when he jumped earlier! Why did it follow now that Lucia was jumping?! What kind of grudge or grievance was this!
But regardless, it was here. The Thanatos clung to the wall, its free arm-blade thrusting menacingly towards Geno.
However, the target wasn't Geno, but the incoming shell.
With a sharp swish, the shell flying towards Geno was sliced in two by the Thanatos and exploded in mid-air.
"Sh*t! That was close! Lucia, hold on to me!"
Recovering from his daze, Geno kicked the Thanatos aside, then took a furious leap with Lucia.
In less than a second, the building behind them erupted in a violent explosion. The entire structure began to rumble, then collapsed like a stack of blocks.
The Ethereals inside the building fell through the massive hole Geno had smashed open, dropping sporadically like dumplings into a pot. Together with the Terrorbirds downstairs, they became burial objects for the building.
Meanwhile, Geno spread a pair of hippogriff-like wings in the air, gliding away on the heatwave from behind.
"Woohoo! Art is an explosion!"
"Stop moving around! I can't fly steadily!"
"Wait! Don't crash!"
Man~
In the end, they still fell. Not only had Geno's injuries not fully healed, but with the heavy weight of Lucia added on, gliding a short distance was already his limit.
However, seeing the collapsed building, Geno felt they had at least managed to save their skins.
"Phew~ That should solve it."
Just when the two thought they could breathe a sigh of relief, gunshots suddenly erupted in the dark night, aiming right at them.
"Crap! There are still so many!"
The losses among the Terrorbirds were far fewer than he had anticipated. Although the surviving Ethereals were attracting a lot of firepower, the remaining portion wasn't something the two of them could handle.
All they could do now was trust in their legs and run for their lives with all their might!
"Geno!"
Geno, who was just thinking about turning to leave, followed Lucia's finger and saw a scene that baffled him completely.
A bullet flying towards him suddenly vanished, and the perpetrator was none other than the Ethereal Thanatos that had been chasing them relentlessly.
The Thanatos glanced at Geno, seemingly confirming something, then turned around and charged into the flock of Terrorbirds, engaging them in battle.
"Was it... protecting you just now?"
Lucia's eyes lit up witnessing this scene worthy of a ghost story. In that split second, she had already brainstormed a three-thousand-word epic of 'Love and Hatred between Geno and Thanatos'.
The abandoned male lead isn't well-liked by the female lead, leading to hatred born of love as he chases her shadow. Yet, when the female lead is hurt, he still steps in to save her.
Great! You're doing great! Thanatos!
This is exactly the development we need!
However, Geno wasn't in the mood to entertain the hardcore little story inside Lucia's skull. He had a strange feeling about the Thanatos's abnormal behavior.
He felt that it wasn't a mindless Ethereal, but rather more like a person capable of normal thought.
Just like him.
Then there was only one thing left for Geno to do.
"Lucia, you go first. Take this and wait for me outside."
"Eh?! Geno! What are you doing?!"
"I'm going to save it!"
As soon as his voice fell, Geno rushed towards the Thanatos. Although his body was already battered, sheer will supported him as he faced the hail of bullets.
In the chaotic melee, the Thanatos severed a Terrorbird's gun barrel, then flashed behind other Terrorbirds to continue its sneak attacks.
But ultimately, two fists can't fight four hands. The number of Terrorbirds was simply too great, and it inevitably took damage.
After taking another rocket hit, the light on the Thanatos's body dimmed a few shades further.
The emotionless black core flickered on and off, as if it would extinguish at any moment.
A Terrorbird seized this opening, aiming a rocket at the Thanatos's back and firing violently.
The Thanatos wanted to intercept it, but a sudden pain shot through its body; the accumulated injuries had finally become a fatal liability.
'Is this the end?'
"Ora!"
With a roar, the deadly missile vanished instantly, and Geno's figure appeared in front of it.
Seeing Geno return, it was full of confusion. The black core on its head fluctuated unnaturally, seemingly struggling to understand this guy's thinking.
"Hey! I don't want to owe you a favor."
It was the same when they were on the wall earlier; this guy's attitude towards him seemed to have shifted.
And he, too, sensed a strange fluctuation coming from the Thanatos.
It seemed... that it had some connection to him.
This was the reason Geno had returned alone to save it.
But adding him to the mix didn't seem to change the status quo much.
"Oi! Do you have any hidden powers? Now's the time to use them!"
Geno shouted this with a 'give it a try' attitude, mostly just to relieve some stress.
Although they were both Ethereals, there wasn't really any way to communicate between them. After all, it was common knowledge that Ethereal intelligence was practically nonexistent.
But who would have thought—the Thanatos actually nodded. It positioned its weapon in front of its body, and then, a bolt of lightning flashed.
A crackling sound instantly rang out, like the chirping of a thousand thunderbirds.
"WTF! Chidori?! Did you walk onto the wrong set?!"
The Thanatos ignored Geno's clowning. It seemed to have difficulty controlling this power. Then, its figure flashed past, and the Terrorbirds surrounding them exploded one by one.
The crisis was resolved just like that—effortlessly.
"Not bad, brother! That was awesome! Teach me later."
Seeing the danger lifted, Geno patted the Thanatos on the shoulder, trying to get buddy-buddy with it.
Who would have thought that this single pat would knock it directly to the ground, motionless, as if suffering from some side effect.
"Uh, I didn't mean to."
"Geno!"
Lucia, riding on Little Hati, chased over quickly. Seeing the two of them break out, she hurried to their side.
"You're just in time, Lucia. Bring him along! Let's go, quickly!"
Saying this, Geno threw the Thanatos onto Hati's back. Then he picked up Lucia, and the one person and two Ethereals slipped away openly through the main gate of the Silver Base.
Leaving behind only a mess of Terrorbirds and Ethereals slaughtering each other, creating absolute chaos.
