Asgard, a magical place—not because of its spells or gods.
The internal conflicts within the Odin Family had prevented Asgard from ever unleashing its so-called universe-shaking power.
The entire realm revolved around Thor, Loki, and ultimately Hela. The family's internal strife ultimately destroyed the Kingdom of Asgard.
A brother wanting to kill his brother, a brother protecting his brother, a sister wanting to kill her father, brothers and sisters joining forces to destroy everything...
In short, aside from the lack of incest, Asgard was comparable to the chaotic affairs of Zeus in Greek mythology.
A melodramatic family saga.
Odin stripped Thor of his Thunder God power and banished him to Earth.
To Qin Xiao, this was no different from a wealthy father freezing his son's credit card and dumping him in a small mountain village to teach him about real life.
The MCU's The Metamorphosis.
Qin Xiao's mission was to play the role of the director of The Metamorphosis program.
Qin Xiao wasn't that soft-hearted, and Thor wasn't particularly selfish or unreasonable. He was just a bit foolish.
Entering Odin's sight without sufficient strength to protect himself was like a small company being targeted by a global corporation. Either you leverage others' resources to thrive, or you get devoured by the giant in one bite.
Qin Xiao knew all the plot points of this world. After careful deliberation, he still chose to accept the task.
Late at night, Qin Xiao sat alone on a small hill, gazing at the stars. He pondered whether to follow the script or devise a clever way to help that foolish boy calm down first.
"Hey! It's rare to see you so quiet. How's it going? Are the stars pretty tonight?"
Black Widow appeared behind Qin Xiao without him noticing, holding a bottle of wine and two glasses.
"If I had the choice, I'd stare at you instead of the stars!" Qin Xiao replied with a smile.
"Such sweet talk! Here's your reward—a glass of wine!" Black Widow sat down, smiling, poured two glasses, and handed one to Qin Xiao.
"To the stars!"
"Alright, to the stars!"
Their glasses clinked softly.
"That guy's awake. He didn't run or scream, just sat there blankly. Could he really be the legendary Thunder God?"
"Absolutely! The real deal!"
Qin Xiao glanced at Black Widow beside him. She was still in her unchanging black catsuit, but her face lacked its usual seriousness and solemnity.
Instead, a rare tranquility settled upon her, tinged with an uncharacteristic vulnerability that made her seem almost endearing.
"I bet you want to ask me how I know all this," Qin Xiao said with a smile.
"Oh? If I asked, would you tell me the truth?" Black Widow asked, taking another sip of her wine.
"That depends on who's asking. Are you the renowned Black Widow of the spy world, or my friend Natasha?" Qin Xiao countered, his tone noncommittal.
Black Widow didn't answer directly, instead speaking in a low, haunting voice about her past. "From the moment I could remember, I was locked away in a red house with a group of girls. The only way to survive was through brutal training and backstabbing each other."
"So from a young age, I stopped trusting anyone around me. Slowly, I learned to see the malice behind their smiles. They'd grin at me, but behind their backs, daggers were being sharpened."
"From the moment I first met you, you've been... unconventional. You rarely speak the truth, but I can see in your eyes that you mean me no harm."
"So I don't care how you know. What matters is that I trust you, both as a partner and a friend."
"My past is too painful to recall. I don't even want to mention it myself, so I won't force you to share your secrets. I just came today to watch the stars with you and chat."
As she spoke, Black Widow leaned her head against Qin Xiao's shoulder.
Her entire life had been consumed by training, assassination, targets, and enemies.
It wasn't until she met Hawkeye and joined S.H.I.E.L.D. that she began to feel the warmth of having trusted partners by her side.
But no one had ever made her feel the way Qin Xiao did. First a target, then a friend, a partner, but more than anything, a man.
He made her forget her missions, her responsibilities, and see him simply as a woman.
This feeling might be commonplace for ordinary people, but for Black Widow, it was extraordinary. She treasured it deeply.
"You look quite slender, but I didn't expect your shoulders to be so solid!"
"Do you like it? You can lean on me for the rest of your life, but only on this side. You know, I'm such a charming man, someone else will inevitably fall for me. And I'm the type who can't bear to reject a beautiful woman. I have to leave a little hope for others, don't I?"
Black Widow's answer left Qin Xiao utterly satisfied. He immediately started spouting more nonsense with his mouth.
He could talk about anything and everything, from heaven to earth.
Black Widow simply leaned against him, quietly listening to his serious-sounding nonsense. The faint smile on her lips showed she rather enjoyed this feeling.
The moon hung above the willow branches, women, tall tales, strong liquor...
The two sat quietly for half the night, and while they didn't engage in the physical intimacy everyone might have hoped for, they grew closer in spirit.
The feeling was wonderful and deeply satisfying.
The next morning, Qin Xiao woke up feeling refreshed and energetic. He arrived early to wait for Dr. Erik Selvig, Jane Foster's mentor, who would be coming to pick up the Thunder God.
In the movie, the Thunder God had crashed into their car from the sky, and everyone else thought he was a madman. But Jane Foster felt an instant connection with the naive Thunder God and chose to believe his story.
If nothing went wrong, they should be here today to take the Thunder God away.
He waited from early morning until noon, but instead of the Thunder God's rescuers, he received a video call from Tony.
"Qin, I heard you guys ran into a weird hammer in Mexico. Was it fun? If it was, I might come check it out. Oh, and take a look at me—see anything different?"
Tony deliberately pulled the camera back to show his upper body. Qin Xiao stared for a long time before finally noticing that the light inside the Arc Reactor on his chest had changed to a blue triangular shape.
