Chapter 8 - Magic training

He was slapped on the face by the night breeze, giving him a sense of motivation. The night sky seemed peaceful.

He continued to walk eventually making it to an open field.

He pulled the sword from the sheath.

How am I supposed to use this thing.

He saw no point in standing around, he swung the sword to see if it was a movement kind of thing, yet the sword had no reaction which meant no magic.

Magic is complex.

Luiciens face had a daunted look on it.

He swung it again but more violently, yet still nothing.

He's face grew more annoyed.

"What am I doing wrong!".

This time he raised his voice.

He swung the sword a couple more times, to the point he was creating pressure in the air.

Some rustling could be heard from behind him.

"Stop, you're going to break it".

Luicien turned his body, with his gaze set to Mika.

"Mika? What are you doing here; I thought you were asleep?".

Mika itched at his hair.

"I was but a weird noise woke me up and I noticed you were gone so I figured you be doing something like this. I assume you're trying to figure out how to use it? I did say I'd teach you tomorrow you know".

Luicien got a determined look on his face.

"I know but I'd rather focus our efforts on getting to the purple lake forest, I want to be stronger...".

His nails started to dig into the palm of his hands as he clenched them.

"Remember how me and Victoria were stuck there?".

Mika noticed that Luicien was clenching his fists.

"Yea I remember What about it?"

The only thing filling the silence was the movement of the trees as they swayed in the breeze, Luicien took a moment before speaking.

"I wasn't strong enough back then, I wasn't able to protect Victoria.

I know it was my first time meeting her back then, but for some reason she seemed so familiar, like I knew her before, it's hard to explain".

Mika's face relaxed into a soften expression, which turned into a smile.

"You like her don't you?".

He let out a little giggle when he said this.

A hint of red pigment brushed Luiciens face.

"No, its- it's not like that".

His words began to trip over themselves, as it seemed like he was struggling to find the right words.

"Ever meet someone, that feels like you've known them for years? Someone you already feel connected to?".

Mika's smile began to move down.

"Yea, I know that feeling".

Luicien look into Mika's eyes directly.

"It feels like that and ever since I've gotten closer to her, that feeling has deepen. I don't know what it is, but I refuse to let any harm come her way!".

Mika's closed his eyes.

"Pfft, you're hopeless".

Luiciens face becomes clueless.

"Wait what do you mean?!".

Mika laughed, then giving him a little nudge.

"Come on let's teach you on how to use this sword".

Luicien went along with him.

"Yea yea ok ok".

Mika ran down the basics with him, getting Luicien to stand in a typical sword stance.

"Now what you'll want to do is connect with the magic within your sword. Feel it and let it flow within you. That's when you'll want to Invision what you want to happen".

Luiciens grip tightened on his sword.

"Since your magic is {rain}, does that mean you have to Invision stuff to do with rain?".

Mika pulls out his sword, the middle dips in and curves out at the top.

"Yea something like that, let me show you".

He held his sword with both his hands and had it standing up right.

The sword started glowing a greyish colour.

He stepped forward.

RAIN MAGIC: ACID RAIN THRUST.

What look like an acid like substance started to envelop at the tip of the sword, almost like it was dripping forward.

He's sword pierced through a tree, burning directly through it.

"Just like that".

He said as if it were the easiest thing ever.

Luicien rolled his eyes.

"Ok I think I've got this".

Luicien held up his sword and tried to focus.

He then lunged forward, but the sword wouldn't glow – no magic was activating.

This is when he lost balance from focusing too much and slipped.

"ArGh!".

Mika put his forehead into his hand.

"You're trying too hard".

Luicien turned to him with a slight annoyed expression.

"Easy for you to say, you've been doing this longer".

Mika helped Luicien back up.

"your magic is illusion, think of something basic in that category. We're lucky if anything, mages have to focus more not to mention do extra actions to cast a spell. Maybe just try and make the magic flow through the sword, if you can do that it'll go along way".

Luicien nodded.

"Ok".

He held the sword back up trying to put all his strength into it.

"Try thinking of a memory you're found of, it'll enhance your emotions, after all emotion plays a roll into it as well".

Mika said.

Luiciens mind sieved through his memories.

***

He thought back to a week ago, aka a week after they had arrived at the village.

Luicien, Victoria and Mika had been helping the people there out a lot, whether that be fending off enemies or rebuilding old bridges.

The people of the village threw a mini festival type of thing for them to say thank you.

That night Victoria was given a typical outfit that girls of the village would wear to these gatherings.

When Luicien had gotten ready that night; Wearing a simple shirt and semi formal trousers, he knocked on Victoria's door.

When she opened it, Luicien was taken back a bit.

She was wearing this long flowy white dress, which had no sleeves.

Around her stomach was a golden hoop of some kind the same as her arms.

Her hair was in a loose braid too.

Luicien looked in amazement because to him this quiet antisocial person was being more confident which he thought took bravery.

"You look amazing!".

He's voice was kind of high pitched.

Victoria looked down out of embarrassment, while placing her hand on the opposite arms.

"I'm not sure- I- I don't really wear stuff like this...".

Luicien grabbed one hand a gently pulled her out of her room, out of instinct she looked up at him.

"I think you're really brave, plus you look pretty".

He said this so casually and without thinking, not even meaning it in a romantic way.

Victoria looked surprised.

"You really think so?".

He then smiled at her.

"Yes, yes I do".

She smiled back at him.

They made their way out, Mika was sat at a table, so they joined him.

"Took you guys long enough".

He said sarcastically.

"Looking good Victoria".

Victoria's expression didn't really shift.

"Oh, thanks".

They sat down with him and enjoyed the music playing. That's when one of the Village girls, the one they considered their village beauty went to the centre to started dancing, some type of performance. It was almost like she was belly dancing.

Victoria herself couldn't help but to admire her, she paned to look at Mika who was lost in a trance staring at her. She then turned to Luicien who wasn't looking at the girl, but instead was looking at her, their eyes locked together.

"You're not watching the performance?".

He was already giving this goofy looking smile at her.

"Sorry it's just, I kind of admire you, what you're doing tonight takes courage".

(BADUM)

Her heart had an extra beat.

"Oh well thank you".

Luicien stood up and offered his hand out to her.

"I'm not too keen on these sorts of things, want to join me".

On impulse she reached for his hand.

"Sure".

They found a field; this was the same field that luicien was training at.

Luicien laid on the grass using it like a bed, the night was filled with many bright stars, something that pleased his mind.

Victoria stared at him not knowing what she should do.

He then patted next to him.

"Come join me".

She hesitantly laid next to him.

He pointed up at the stars.

"This is far better than a party".

Victoria looked up, the sky was arranged perfectly with stars, it almost looked like someone had painted it. This was something she hadn't noticed before something she took for granted.

"It's amazing".

Her voice had raised in tone, showing more emotion than she had in a long time.

Luicien let out a satisfied 'ahh'.

"I knew you'd like it".

He looked back up.

"I feel like we don't know each other all too well".

She gave him a puzzled look.

"What do you mean?".

He focused his gaze back to her.

"We met a while ago now and you've been travelling with us for just over a week know, but I feel like I don't know anything about you".

Victoria just looked at him for a moment, then looked back up with this unsure expression on her face.

"I guess so... I don't really socialise too much, sorry about that".

Luicien laughed.

"You have nothing to be sorry about, how about we get to know each other now?".

Victoria was cautious.

"Now?".

Luicien nodded.

"Why not, it feels like we've got all the time in the world, plus we'll be spending more time we've each other on our travels".

Victoria thought for a moment.

"Ok, sure".

Luicien seemed happy by this.

"What's your favourite thing to do?".

Victoria looked up, as if the stars was going to help her come up with a response.

"Sometimes I like to eat a whole cake by myself".

Luicien snickered to himself, which Victoria caught onto this made her ask "What? Is that too weird...".

Luicien chuckled some more.

"No not at all, that's awesome. You're not like anyone else; you have personality and you stick to being real, that's special and rare".

Victoria paused, she hadn't really had someone refer to her as 'special' before.

She smiled ever so slightly, before it faded.

"What's normally you're favoured thing to do?".

Luicien formulated his answer.

"I like to feed stray cats". His answer was so unexpected.

Victoria was stunned by his answer.

She burst out in laughter and so did he.

***

Luicien was so fixed on his memory he didn't realise his grip on his sword had become very tight.

In fact sweat was now dripping down his head.

That's when the sword started to glow ever so slightly, then that glow became bigger. Shinning a light blue hue.

"Luicien look at your sword, now's the time to strike!". Mika shouted.

Luicien's eyes snapped back open.

He wasted no time and struck forward, his blade sliding through the middle of a tree like a knife to butter. A trail of blue energy behind him.

Luicien was huffing but was happy with the results.

Mika let out a happy huff.

"You did it, that's the first steps right there".

Mika and Luicien headed back, heading straight to bed.

Luicien laid in his bed staring at the ceiling.

I'm one step closer to my dreams.

The fatigue got to him, which slowly guided his eyes shut.
