Chapter 61 - Chapter 61: Little Rattata

"Pidgey!"

Like an arrow released from a bowstring, Pidgey shot forward instantly.

"Weedle! Weedle!"

Thanks to their partial resistance to poison, a few Weedle barely managed to stay conscious. The moment they saw Pidgey swooping toward them, they realized they had no chance of winning. They screeched in panic and struggled to move their weakened bodies.

"Huu~ huhu!"

But Pidgey's attack speed far exceeded their sluggish reactions.

A powerful gust infused with white Flying-type energy swept across the Bug-types.

"Weedle—!"

"Caterpieee—!"

The slicing wind scraped across their bodies like blades, and soon several of them completely lost the ability to fight.

"Pidgey!"

After the first gust ended, Pidgey noticed that two Weedle and one Caterpie were still barely standing.

Wasn't this the perfect chance to make its first battle even more impressive?

"Hoo! Hoo!"

It flapped its wings again, unleashing another Gust.

Within seconds, the remaining Bug-types collapsed onto the grass.

---

"Good job, Pidgey. That was excellent teamwork for our first battle."

Icarus walked over, smiling at the defeated Bug-types scattered across the ground.

"Spri spri~ Sprout!"

Bellsprout followed proudly at his side, praising Pidgey's performance.

"Pidgey~!"

Hearing the praise and recognition, Pidgey was overjoyed. It was the first time it had fought alongside its Trainer and partner. Being able to contribute so much felt amazing.

"Pidgey, stay alert around the area from now on. If any other Pokémon approach, warn us immediately."

"Bellsprout, help me detoxify the ones we're keeping."

After pulling out a brand-new bottle of Antidote from his backpack, Icarus assigned their next tasks.

"Pidgey!"

The little bird immediately began circling overhead, faithfully following its Trainer's command. Back in the Pokémon House, it had been taught clearly: always obey your Trainer.

"Spri? Sprout?"

Bellsprout tilted its head in confusion. Weren't they supposed to kill them? Why detoxify them?

"Bellsprout, you're a Poison-type. You can eat poisoned Bug meat without a problem. But Pidgey isn't. If it eats poisoned meat, it'll get poisoned too. And we also plan to sell some of this Bug meat. Ordinary people can't eat poisonous meat."

"Spri spri (●—●)!"

Bellsprout suddenly understood and nodded seriously.

"Alright. We'll detoxify ten of them—eight Caterpie and two Weedle. The remaining four poisoned Weedle are yours. The detoxified Bugs are for Pidgey. The rest of the Caterpie will be sold."

After speaking, Icarus and Bellsprout quickly finished off the four Weedle that didn't need detoxifying, then carefully treated the others one by one.

He wasn't worried about the detoxified Bugs suddenly attacking. According to the department store clerk, a bottle of Antidote could be used ten times and would remove most standard poisons within five minutes. However, even after detoxification, Pokémon that had lost the ability to fight would need significant rest before recovering.

When five minutes passed, Icarus had Bellsprout use Vine Whip to swiftly finish them off.

With practiced efficiency, he took out his dagger and cleaned the battlefield. With Pidgey and Bellsprout standing guard together, he felt much safer than before.

Soon, all materials and Bug meat were stored neatly in his backpack. The poisonous meat was carefully separated to avoid mistakes.

"I thought the smell of blood would attract other Pokémon," he muttered. "Looks like the guards' sweep these past two days really scared them off."

Slightly disappointed, he packed up and slung his backpack over his shoulder.

"Pidgey, Bellsprout, let's go find the Rattata."

"Pidgey!"

"Spri!"

They moved deeper into the forest.

---

After walking for a while, Pidgey signaled for him to stop.

"Spri!"

Bellsprout also whispered—it had heard Rattata cries ahead.

"Let me see."

Icarus raised his binoculars.

In the bushes not far away, six Rattata, their fur messy and stained with mud and grass, were struggling to carry scattered Caterpie bodies together. Despite their own injuries, they worked hard.

Nearby, three companions that had lost their fighting ability were resting at the base of a tree.

"One, two, three… eleven."

There were eleven Caterpie corpses in total.

"Good thing I didn't spend all my savings on buying a Caterpie… gambling on something stronger was the right choice."

Watching the miserable scene, Icarus gained a new understanding of how weak Caterpie truly were on the forest's outskirts.

Eleven versus nine—and they were completely wiped out. Only three Rattata had fallen.

"But now… you're all mine."

He beckoned Pidgey and Bellsprout closer and began outlining the plan.

"Same strategy as before. After they're poisoned, both of you attack together. We can't let any escape. Rattata are much faster than Bug-types."

"Spri spri!"

Bellsprout was delighted to finally take part in the finishing blow instead of just spreading powder.

"Pidgey!"

As the newest member, it had no objections.

---

"Shhh—"

"Huu~"

Sleep Powder drifted forward, carried by a gentle breeze toward the exhausted Rattata.

"Ratta? Ratta!"

Already injured and drained from battle, they initially assumed their dizziness was from blood loss.

But then one of them collapsed.

"Rattata!"

Another began staggering.

From afar, Icarus observed through his binoculars and sighed softly.

He hadn't expected them to fall so easily—but thinking about it, it made sense. They had just finished a fierce battle. Their stamina was low, and their wounds allowed even more powder to enter their bodies.

Under such conditions, resisting Sleep Powder was nearly impossible.

The hunt was about to begin.
