Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Capital

Kiana settled into the room with the door she had kicked in. It was on a different floor from Hua Yi's dormitory. In truth, the young girl didn't have many options. As an intruder who hadn't entered through normal means, Kiana naturally didn't have a dorm ID card. Even if she wanted to stay in another room, she would have had to use violence to break down the door.

At this moment, however, Kiana had yet to realize what this implied. Standing to the side, she watched as Hua Yi finished making her bed. She just wanted him to hurry up and leave so she could lie down and sleep. Her long-held principle was simple: after eating and drinking your fill, you should get some proper rest.

Although the girl didn't explicitly order him out, Hua Yi guessed as much from her expression and movements. "The bathrooms are at both ends of the hallway on each floor," he said as he prepared to leave. "The laundry room is next to the bathroom, and there are washing machines inside. I assume I don't need to teach you how to use a washing machine?"

"I know how," Kiana replied.

She certainly did. Back when she was running through the wilderness with her dad, they would bag up their dirty clothes and wait until they reached a hotel in a nearby town to use a washing machine. A man like Siegfried Kaslana, who was incredibly lazy about anything unrelated to combat, certainly wasn't going to wash their clothes by hand.

After Hua Yi left, the room fell into silence. Kiana peeked her head out cautiously, and once she was sure he had actually gone upstairs, she went to the bathroom and laundry room to handle her personal hygiene as he had instructed.

When she finally lay down comfortably on the bed and prepared to sleep, her gaze fell upon the damaged door she had kicked earlier. It wouldn't close properly, and she fell into a pensive silence.

Did this mean that if Hua Yi wanted to, he could sneak in and attack her in the middle of the night? She felt zero sense of security!

If only Hua Yi were a beautiful girl... then Kiana wouldn't have any of these concerns. In fact, she might even look for an opportunity to strike first. But he wasn't.

After agonizing over it for a while, Kiana rummaged through the backpack she used for her personal belongings. She pulled out a length of transparent silk thread and a small bell, then tied them across the bottom of the slightly ajar, broken door.

This was the simplest warning device her dad had taught her for sleeping in the wild. If a person or animal touched the thread, the bell would ring. Her dad had also said that once she was capable of detecting approaching danger before the bell even rang, these tools would lose their purpose.

But even now, Kiana couldn't reach that level.

If that guy Hua Yi really tried to sneak into her room in the dead of night, it would only prove that he wasn't trustworthy. Her dad once told her that the friendlier a man acted toward a woman, the more problematic he was. In Kiana's eyes, Hua Yi was being far too good to her. So, aside from natural gratitude, the girl maintained a basic level of vigilance.

Besides, her dad seemed so experienced. He explained every detail and logic so clearly. It was truly impressive—how exactly had he accumulated so much life experience?

After her mind wandered for a bit, Kiana silently looked at the defensive measures she had set up. She recalled various moments of her interaction with Hua Yi and pursed her lips, her heart filled with complex emotions.

Returning to the bed, she felt the comfort of the newly bought quilts and sheets. Kiana let out a soft sigh and then fell asleep.

On the upper floor of the boys' dormitory, Hua Yi was naturally unaware of Kiana's little movements or inner thoughts. He was currently exercising.

Because he had already obtained seven Stigmata, Hua Yi no longer pushed himself as hard as before. If he continued with his previous lifestyle, he felt he would develop personality issues before the Third Honkai Impact even arrived. Now that he had a way to steadily improve his strength, he had relaxed a bit compared to before.

That method of steady improvement was the Friendship Supply.

As usual, he opened the virtual interface and fixed his gaze on the column for Friendship Points. The number there had increased by twenty.

There was no doubt that these points came from Kiana. Just like Raiden Mei at the beginning, Kiana had brought him twenty points.

Back then, Hua Yi's relationship with Raiden Mei had progressed rapidly after only two meetings. The Friendship Points obtained from her had jumped to eighty, and were now at ninety.

Would the points from Kiana increase tomorrow?

Hua Yi wasn't particularly obsessed with forcing progress in his relationship with her. For most people, it was difficult to accept someone who suddenly appeared and kept trying to curry favor. Everything had a limit. In truth, whether it was Raiden Mei or Kiana, Hua Yi had already exceeded that limit to some extent.

However, Raiden Mei had been alienated by others because of her father's issues, so she had luckily accepted Hua Yi despite his suspicious behavior. As for Kiana, Hua Yi had originally intended to be more careful about this,

but who would have thought she would be out of contact with her father and homeless? He naturally couldn't sit by and do nothing, so he let her move directly into his dormitory building.

Speaking of which, given Kiana's current situation, how did she end up transferring to Chiba Academy later on? Hua Yi didn't believe for a second that some high-level official from Chiba Academy just happened to run into her on the street and let her enroll out of pity.

As expected, Schicksal Overseer Otto Apocalypse must have been pulling the strings from the shadows. As for his goal...

Hua Yi exhaled softly, choosing not to dwell on those conspiracies. With his current strength, dealing with ordinary Honkai Beasts shouldn't be a problem he could probably take them out with one punch each. However, he didn't think he was invincible yet. At the very least, he didn't yet have the capital to change much.

But as time passed, the day he possessed that capital wouldn't be too far off.
