Chapter 80 - Chapter 77: The Pay-to-Win Playstyle

"It actually worked?"

Laibo looked at the ring on his hand in disbelief. Before entering the door, he had thought his chances of getting this magic ring were only 10%; he hadn't expected it to be real.

"It's basically finished. If you want additional services, such as faster cooldown speeds, or attaching special attributes like Cooperative Spellcasting or Instant Casting, those will be charged separately."

Laibo swallowed hard. He handed the ring back to Furan and said:

"Give me a cooldown speed increase and Cooperative Spellcasting."

"That will be four gold coins in total."

Laibo did not hesitate to take four gold coins out of his ornately decorated wallet and pressed them onto the table.

The reason Furan still accepted these extra services was to disguise herself as a true Artisan.

Otherwise, engraving Spells for others would inevitably draw suspicion. Providing extra services allowed her to pose as an Artisan who simply charged low prices.

These extra services took quite a bit of time. About half an hour later, Furan finally handed the ring back.

Now, the band of the ring was covered in tiny runes, and floating runic characters could be vaguely seen within the gemstone. Other than that, it looked no different from before.

Laibo looked at the shimmering magic ring, put it on his finger, adjusted it, and then cast a Fireball Spell as he usually would.

He had already cast the Fireball Spell many times today and felt his mind was somewhat exhausted, but after putting on this ring, he felt that casting the Fireball Spell was much smoother than usual.

"This is Cooperative Spellcasting!" He could feel its genuine effect.

This was another use for a magic ring; after special processing, it could assist the user in casting and enhance the Spell's power.

A fireball larger than before appeared. This time, he could clearly feel how solid the fireball was, with the fire elements tightly packed together.

He had never experienced such smooth casting, nor had he ever possessed such a degree of mastery over a Spell as he did now.

He canceled the Fireball Spell and looked at the ring on his hand, which had already dimmed. Glancing at his other empty fingers, an idea formed in his mind.

He pulled off the Spiritual Power Enhancement Ring on his other hand. He had noticed just now that this ring did not work while using the magic ring.

And now, he no longer needed the weak Spiritual Power boost provided by that ring.

"I want to make six more Fireball Spell rings."

He glanced at the empty spots on his fingers. He couldn't take off his Protection Ring or his Constitution Enhancement Ring, and since he didn't seem to have much money left, he could only make six for now.

Furan's face immediately slumped. She hadn't expected anyone to make so many identical rings, but after a moment's thought, she still agreed to the commission.

"Forget it, I'll just treat it as earning some money today," she thought to herself.

After finishing these Fireball Spell rings, she could close up shop. She didn't have that much Spiritual Power to waste on making rings; she still had to write her book.

Furan sighed and took out the materials from under the table.

---

Laibo returned to the Elemental School's station and went straight to find the apprentice who had easily defeated him earlier that day.

"Bang! Bang!" The apprentice's door was pounded so hard it practically jumped. The force of the knocking sent the door recoiling slightly before it bounced back with a loud 'clatter'.

After a long while, Jielin finally opened the door. He had dark circles under his eyes, and his gaze was slightly weary, though his face held an irrepressible excitement. However, he seemed displeased by the interruption, his brow furrowed.

"What are you doing here?"

Jielin said coldly. He had been reading a newly purchased Spell book and intended to read late into the night. Having his interest spoiled by an interruption made him unhappy.

Laibo said slowly with a smile:

"Let's have another match. I'm prepared this time."

Jielin was somewhat puzzled and said dismissively:

"Oh? Another match? Did you buy a Fireball Spell Spell scroll and want to come blow me up?"

Jielin wasn't very interested in this opponent he had defeated effortlessly this morning. In his view, the other's combat strength relied entirely on a full set of equipment; his Spells, one could only say, still needed refinement.

"It couldn't be that you're scared, could it? Are you really that afraid of my new equipment!"

Laibo said with a smile. Jielin, being a hot-blooded youth after all, naturally couldn't stand such a provocation.

"Then let's have another match. This time I'll show you that a mage's combat relies on spells; your garbage is simply useless!"

He couldn't stand this person who spent all day flaunting his power in the dueling arena relying on equipment. One must know that he himself had always believed that Spells were the foundation of a mage's existence.

His financial situation was good, but he spent all his money on Spells and related Spell books, not even willing to repair the door that he had accidentally blown up during a Spell experiment a few months ago.

A while later, the two appeared in the dueling arena. By this time, the sky had darkened, and only a few broken lamps were still lit, providing dim illumination.

When Jielin and Laibo stood at a relatively far distance, he finally noticed something reflecting light on the other's hands.

Focusing his gaze, he saw that Laibo's hands were almost covered in rings, six of which had large gemstones on them.

Jielin usually didn't care to learn about such equipment. If it were anyone else, they would have easily discovered that these were six damn magic rings! Only magic rings required such large gemstones.

"Playing tricks!" Jielin thought nothing of it. Did he think wearing some trinkets would defeat him? Not a chance!

"Start!"

After the duel began, Jielin cast a Flame Shield on himself with extreme speed. He knew that the opponent's few Spells were all fire-based, so a Flame Shield with high resistance to fire damage was very suitable for dealing with Laibo.

Sure enough, the opponent directly threw a fireball that smashed straight into his Flame Shield, causing it to tremble as if it were about to disintegrate.

"It really is the Fireball Spell." Jielin was somewhat pleased with his prediction of the opponent's Spell, but at the same time, he had some doubts.

Why was the power of this Fireball Spell a bit greater than before? This morning, his Flame Shield hadn't almost vanished after blocking a single hit.

And why was the speed at which he cast the Fireball Spell so much faster? This time, it was launched just as he finished casting his Flame Shield; this morning, it would have taken another two seconds for the Fireball Spell to be released.

But before he could ponder further, another Fireball Spell attacked him. He had no choice but to abandon the offensive Spell he was preparing and instead use his Spiritual Power to strengthen the Flame Shield.

After this fireball exploded, flames covered the ground around him. Even through the Flame Shield, Jielin could feel the temperature within.

"How is he so fast?"

This question flashed through his mind, but he didn't have time to think about why, because he saw two fireballs rushing at him from the left and right.

"I surrender." To save his life, he said instinctively.
