Chapter 8 - Chapter 8:The Return On A Rainy Day

The sky had been heavy since dawn. Gray clouds clung to the city's skyline, as if years of unspoken words were finally ready to pour down as rain.

Bharsha sat by the window. This new college classroom still felt a bit foreign to her. A restless breeze swept in from outside, and she kept checking the phone in her hand. Today was the day Arindam was supposed to arrive.

But the minutes were slipping away. The train's arrival time had long passed. No text. No call. That familiar knot of anxiety tightened in her chest. "What if something happened? What if he's not coming?"

Right then, the heavens broke open, and the rain came crashing down. And amidst the rhythmic drumming of the downpour, a soft, familiar voice drifted from the doorway.

"Is this seat taken?"

Bharsha turned around slowly. It felt as though the gears of time had suddenly ground to a halt. Standing at the door was Arindam. His shirt was damp from the rain, his eyes held that same calm gaze, and a faint, knowing smile played on his lips.

The phone nearly slipped from Bharsha's hand. "You... you're really here?" she whispered.

Arindam smiled softly. "You were the one who said you'd be waiting by the window. How could I be anywhere else?"

Bharsha's eyes brimmed with tears. She didn't say a word; she couldn't. She simply stood up and ran toward him. The classroom was nearly empty. There were no dramatic gestures, no grand speeches—just a profound moment where the distance of months finally collapsed into nothingness.

The Words That Needed to be Said"I thought... I thought maybe you wouldn't come back," Bharsha said, her voice trembling.

"And I thought maybe you wouldn't be waiting for me anymore," Arindam replied.

"I waited every single day, Arindam. Every long, agonizing hour."

"And I counted every day, Bharsha. Every single moment."

A heavy silence followed. Then Arindam took her hands in his and spoke from the heart. "You know, that month of silence taught me one thing—I don't want to get used to a life without you. I don't want to learn how to be okay alone."

Bharsha laughed through her tears. "Neither do I."

Thunder rumbled in the distance. Bharsha looked toward the window and said, "On our very first day, you told me that I looked tough, but my eyes were always waiting for someone. Do you remember?"

Arindam leaned in, resting his forehead against hers. "There's no more waiting now, Bharsha. Today, the wait ends."

He held her hand firmly. This time, it wasn't a hand held in farewell. It was a hand held for a lifetime.

The Seat by the WindowThey sat down together by the window. Same bench, same city, same soul. The rain had softened into a gentle drizzle.

"What if another storm comes?" Bharsha whispered, resting her head on his shoulder.

Arindam looked at her with unwavering certainty. "Then we'll get drenched together. We won't let go this time."

There was no railway station now. No eight-hour distance. No haunting train whistles. Just the seat by the window—the one that had never truly been empty.

Because love doesn't just disappear. It waits. It endures. And when the time is right, it finds its way back home.
