Chapter 4 - Mirroring Insanity

Trying to control himself, Sylus looked up, staring at his sister. Words couldn't fathom what he had seen; it was beyond him, and it was as if his mind was playing tricks on him.

"Frey?" he called out for her, engulfed in fear and crippled by excruciating pain from the headache. He struggled to get up on his feet. Something was burning his chest.

"Come on, I am done here, and we can now head back home." Freya was paying close attention to her brother; it was the first time she had seen him act that way, and from what she was seeing, it wasnt funny.

A device on Freya's hand was beeping, and bright colors were flashing as both of them made it to the counter. Sylus, holding his head, looked at her to see what was making the annoying beep.

"Isn't that important?" he asked, looking at her with worry laced all around his face.

"Not as important as you, big brother, come on, let's get you home." Freya smiled, grabbing their groceries and heading out of the store with Sylus by her side. She had booked a ride, trying to get her brother home safely.

Seeing the ride, Sylus slowly turned his head to look at her, knowing why she had booked it in the first place.

"You shouldn't have, I can manage," he muttered, still rubbing his forehead, trying to get it together.

"My car is still packed at the Bureau, and I am not going to leave you alone to walk any distance, not until I see that you're okay." Freya held Sylus's hand; she was smiling like a five-year-old child.

"You are my family and everything, so I dont want you walking around weakly."

Sylus couldn't help but smile when he heard his sister's words, adn he knew what it meant to her if he was going to be okay.

"Alright, let's head home."

He smiled, looking at her, and there was a visible amount of joy on her face when Sylus said those words.

They walked to the cab, and they sat down. Sylus looked out the window, and in front of him. He saw the being that was inside the plain dimension; the being slowly stretched its hand out for Sylus.

Breathing heavily, Sylus was trying to see if he was seeing the real thing or if it was another hallucination. Staring at the being in front of him, he could see the way the air close to the being was bending; reality seemed to be warping around the being.

"Heir of Ruin."

Sylus could hear the being's voice; it was fierce and strong, sending shivers down his spine. He was about to open the car door when Freya put her hand on his shoulder.

"Big brother?" she called out, snapping Sylus back. Sylus turned to look for the being, and to his surprise.

The being was gone.

He shook his head, turning to look at Freya with a weak smile on his face.

"Dont worry about me," he said, trying to make sure she wasnt going to be worked up. "It's just a slight headache."

Freya nodded slowly as she patted the driver's shoulder. The ride started, and they were on their way back to their house. It was a five-minute drive, and Freya couldn't remove her eyes from her brother. Worried about him, his eyes were peering at the window, and his uneasiness could be seen from a mile away.

Once they got to the house, she made sure that everything was settled. They walked into the house with a smile on Freya's face.

"I am about to make sure you eat right, and I will not hold back during board games."

She grinned, but then the device on her hand was still beeping; this time it was more intense, and it wasnt about to stop.

Sylus was looking at her; he had a weakened smile on his face. "I think you should answer that."

"And leave you alone? The answer is no, they can call any other strong warrior, but for now, I want to be with my brother." Freya protested; she knew that he was bound to say something else to get her to go.

Sylus walked to her, giving her a warm hug to calm her down. "I will be here when you come home, my little firebird. So please, go be the strong warrior you are."

Freya let out a sigh. She knew there was no winning Sylus. "Fine!"

She clicked the device to see what the message was.

'Freya Cage! We call you for immediate backup!'

'An S-ranked monster broke free from a dungeon in the West of Veron City, and it is wreaking havoc there!'

'We have called two guilds and four S-ranked warriors; you are the only SS-ranked we have close to the city now.'

"It's just one monster, and you can't call me to join that sort of lineup; you can handle it." Freya was about to hang up She was not happy to hear that they had called so many people.

'The monster seems to have control over A-ranked monsters; it's a rank 9 calamity over here!'

'Please, we need your help!'

Freya looked at Sylus, and he gave her a nod, she knew what it meant. "I promise once I am done with this, I am not going to do anything else for the next week!"

She hugged Sylus, holding him close. Trying not to let go, but her brother knew what she was doing.

"You can go now. I will be here waiting for you." He kissed her on the forehead. Freya broke from the hug and walked outside. Turning to give Sylus one last goodbye before she flew off.

The gust of wind was strong enough to shake the door from its hinges. Sylus smiled. He closed the door and turned to go get himself cleaned up.

He entered the bathroom and started using the sink to clean his face. But then he noticed something, it was odd, but it was clear to him at the moment.

Everywhere was quiet; it was too quiet. He turned to look around, but there wasnt anything there.

When he turned back to the sink mirror, he saw the being standing right behind him.

"Hello, Heir of Ruin."

Sylus turned in panic, his body trembling. "Who are you?"

The being standing in front of Sylus slowly took off the cloth covering his face. Once the cloth was off, Sylus was petrified. He couldn't believe what he was seeing and how it was possible.

The being in front of him was him, but he had white hair instead of his signature red hair.

"I am you," the being said softly, his voice not echoing inside the room but inside Sylus's bones.

"I am your destiny, Sylus Cage."
