Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: Heavy Casualties

With the human race joining the battle, the war between the two sides grew increasingly intense. The corpses of humans and dragons lay everywhere, blood flowed like rivers, and explosive magic cracked the ground into abyss-like fissures that seemed bottomless.

In just two days, both sides suffered heavy casualties. The number of giant dragon corpses had already exceeded three hundred, while human deaths reached sixty thousand.

The mere aftershocks of the battle could crush a large number of people; human lives were treated as mere weeds. If it weren't for the Good Dragons acting as vanguards for the human race, the death toll would have been several times higher.

As more and more Evil Dragons gathered, the pressure on the humans and the Good Dragons grew. Even Fire Dragon King Igneel was forced to retreat with heavy injuries, unable to continue fighting.

However, after the dragons of both sides had fought for two days and two nights, they all began to show signs of exhaustion and collectively chose to retreat and recuperate.

"Damn it! My family is all dead. I'm so useless—I can't even learn Dragon Slaying Magic, so I don't even have the right to avenge them."

A young Mage's eyes were bloodshot; his teacher and family had all died in battle, killed by a single dragon breath.

Never before had he hated the Evil Dragons, or his own incompetence, as much as he did today!

A person beside him sighed and said, "Stop grieving. We might not even live until the end of the war. Thirty-two Good Dragons have already died, and human deaths have exceeded a hundred thousand. When we fight again next time, the pressure on us will be even greater."

Casualties in the Evil Dragon camp were also significant, roughly estimated at fifty dragons. Most were low-rank dragons; without human assistance, if they couldn't get back up in an instant, they were truly dead.

Fire Dragon King Igneel, covered in scars, sat on the ground resting; beside him were the four dragons including Grandeeney, as well as his good friend, Hellfire Dragon Atlas Flame.

"Igneel, I didn't expect even you to be beaten into such a state. How pathetic!" Grandeeney lay sprawled out listlessly on the ground.

"The King of Red Dragons, Osta is very strong, even a bit stronger than me. I'm afraid only Teacher can suppress him."

Fire Dragon King Igneel touched the wound on his abdomen, a trace of lingering fear appearing in his eyes.

He had previously been pierced through by the claws of the King of Red Dragons, Osta. If the human army hadn't arrived in time and a Space Mage hadn't rescued him, he might have died on the spot.

"You and I are the only Dragon Kings left on the side of the Good Dragons. Can we really win?"

Water Dragon King Tasia walked over, her massive paws making the ground shake with every step. She lay down on the ground, her expression showing exhaustion.

Although she hadn't encountered a Dragon King, she had been besieged by ordinary dragons. If her own defenses hadn't been strong enough, she might have ended up with the same fate as the Sky Dragon King.

Fire Dragon King Igneel lowered his head and said nothing. In fact, even without saying it, everyone knew the chances of losing this war were higher.

Although there was a steady stream of aid from human Mages, the Evil Dragons also had reinforcements of over ten thousand, and there were at least twenty dragons of the Dragon King Level.

Iron Dragon Metalicana took a bite out of a large block of iron and said, "The humans actually have magic to create iron blocks. It's quite convenient!"

White Dragon Belserion agreed, "And healing magic too. They could even reattach my severed arm; even Grandeeney couldn't do that."

It should be noted that the dragon race has very high magic resistance, so being able to heal dragons is truly impressive.

Grandeeney said weakly, "Oi, oi, I'm a Sky Dragon; healing isn't my primary ability."

What she used was Ancient Lost Magic, which had different strengths compared to the healing magic of the new era. She was definitely not incompetent; she had healed many dragons, after all.

Shadow Dragon Skiadath preferred sneak attacks and hiding in shadows; among the dragons present, he was the most relaxed.

However, that was only because the Evil Shadow Dragons of the Evil Dragon side hadn't arrived yet. Once the Evil Shadow Dragons came, his good days would be over.

There would likely be no more room for him within the shadows.

He sighed and said, "If only Teacher Acnologia were here. With his infamy, just standing here would make many dragons wary."

Right at that moment, a terrifying magic power rapidly approached from the distant sky, filled with tyranny and ill omens.

"Who is it!"

Everyone jerked their heads up, their expressions changing drastically. What an exaggerated magic power this was—it even changed the color of the sky.

"Teacher Acnologia!"

Fire Dragon King Igneel and Igneels Five Dragons showed expressions of joy. After nearly a month of being together, they all had a deep understanding of this ominous magic power.

Hellfire Dragon Atlas Flame was surprised: "You call him teacher?"

He had also heard of that monster's infamy; he didn't seem like a good person. Why did Igneel and the others seem so happy?

Fire Dragon King Igneel paused for a moment and said casually, "Don't mind it, we're just used to calling him that. Teacher Acnologia isn't as ferocious as you imagine; he's actually very gentle."

They didn't quite understand the meaning of the word 'teacher'; it was just that Acnologia said a teacher is someone who imparts knowledge, teaches skills, and resolves doubts. It was a respectful title, and since he liked it, they called him that.

Taking everything into account, Acnologia had only taught them for half a month—not a long time—and they had already forgotten most of the knowledge he taught.

Gentle?

Hellfire Dragon Atlas Flame was thoughtful, then he looked up again and asked in confusion, "He seems to have passed by?"

The terrifying demonic dragon in the sky had no intention of stopping at all. He streaked across the sky above their position and charged straight toward the Evil Dragon camp.

Was he unable to stop his momentum?

Fire Dragon King Igneel and the others were dumbfounded. What was Teacher doing? Had he gone mad?

They quickly spread their wings and flew into the sky. Immediately after, they saw Acnologia release a world-destroying roar, blowing ten Evil Dragons away, half of whom died on the spot.

Then he charged into the dragon swarm, tearing half the body of a Blue Dragon with one claw and crushing the head of a giant dragon with one foot. Not a single dragon survived wherever he passed.

Hellfire Dragon Atlas Flame saw that demonic dragon monster laughing maniacally while tearing off the wings of Evil Dragons. Even the King of Red Dragons, Osta was kicked over and retreated in a frantic scramble.

This brutal scene left the dragon completely stunned.

He couldn't help but look at Fire Dragon King Igneel, his wide eyes seemingly saying: 'This is the...
