The Lost Vampire System Chapter 15 - The Artifact Activates
As the group entered, they noticed that it was a complete mess. The fighting was over and there were medics everywhere tending to the students. Debris and small amounts of blood were here and there which caused a reaction in Jareth. It was mild disgust mixed with the desire to go and lick the floor. The urge was not that strong so he could resist. That was weird, he thought as he continued to look around and up at the four other floors, he could see that people were sitting in their claimed seats. Some were smiling while others on the lower floors had mixed emotion.
They kept walking around groups of adults who were fixing the place up.
"Well, this is something," Mia expressed with a worried expression on her face.
The Military Faction," Damion began, "does everything they can in the hope that one person can shine like no other and lead the humans to victory against the Lyracken." He raised his arm in the air like he was that shining light. "Of course, nobody with 6 or 7 Evolved powers has shown themselves since the first war. If there is anybody then they are hiding their power or isn't quite there yet. Only my great-grandmother is capable of that."
"How strong is your great-grandmother?" Keira asked looking back at Damion who was at the back of the group.
"She is strong," he answered.
There was a slight awkward pause before Madison got impatient.
"How strong?" she asked her tone getting annoyed. "You keep saying she is strong and then you don't say anything. Does she have 6 to 7 abilities or are you going to say that she has more?"
Damion flicked his eyes at Madison for a brief moment before looking back down. It was so fast that Madison didn't notice but Jareth did.
More than 7 Evolved powers, Jareth wondered? Nah. He is probably just saying that her strength could get up to that level. Nobody has ever had more than seven Evolved powers.
"Uh!" Madison huffed. "All talk and no results, are we?" She stated. "At least you have a cool ability, but I don't know about your great-grandmother. Hey, how old is your great-grandmother?"
Before Damion could answer Axel had walked up to them.
"Axel!" Keira said with a smile before her smile dropped. She brushed her red hair to the side. "What happened to you?"
Axel had a slightly busted up lip with a black eye.
"We got taken out by a 5 Evolved power student. Completely overwhelmed our group of three."
"You should get that healed," Jareth said.
"Not yet," Axel stated. "I'm going to let this feeling bubble before I get it healed. Use it as a temporary reminder that I can always improve myself."
"What," Emma said with a snort. "Just get yourself healed. If you want a reminder, I can give you one if you want."
"She speaks," Madison stated.
Emma turned to face Madison with a pink hue in her eyes.
"Two can play that game," Madison smirked as her hazel eyes turned to brown as smoke covered them.
Damion jumped in, slinging one arm each around both of the girls, pulling them in. "Three can play that game," he laughed as one eye glowed pink and the other was covered in smoke. "Just know that I will be better than both of you."
The two girls scoffed as the two shoved Damion away. Jareth gave a slight laugh as he looked at his sister who was also laughing a little. The siblings looked at each other and the pair instantly knew what the other was thinking. This was the closest that the pair had friends and that made them smile.
While all this was happening Axel went to meet with the twins who were also getting healed. He went to the healer while the twins walked to the group.
"Hey," Damion said, "do you know where Hannah is?"
"Hannah?" Hudson asked.
"Yeah," Damion confirmed. "The beautiful blonde hair girl with 3 Evolved powers that belongs to the Kennedy Faction."
"Oh yeah, her," his twin Hunter exclaimed. "She is on the top floor," he explained. "She is a really good fighter. She put on a show that caused even the stronger students to think twice before challenging her. Based on the rumors after they found out that she could see their moves five seconds into the future after displaying her other powers they practically just gave her a seat at the top."
"We probably could've stayed by her," Madison expressed her thoughts.
"I wouldn't want to be used as a meat shield," Emma said. "If it was between one of us and her, I'd doubt she would just give the seat to us."
"Enough of that," Damion said as his stomach growled. "Let's see if we can get a ten-person table or move them together. The food on the bottom floor can't be that bad."
The group moved once Axel joined up with them. They went into the dining hall which had plenty of tables and alternate seating areas like couches with tables. They looked a little worn but it still looked nice. There group had caught the attention of most on that floor since they were the biggest group in the room. The other groups had barely been acquainted with their members but because of Jareth and Mia's relationship, the two groups had somewhat merged.
They found two tables that were empty right next to each other and merged them together. After that they went to get something to eat. Where the food was looked like that of a buffet. You could grab what you want and sit down. Henry practically ran to the buffet table like he hadn't eaten in a while. He grabbed a pre-made hamburger off the heater along with some fries before rushing back to eat, finishing before the rest even reached the buffet.
"Save some for the rest of us," Madison jokingly said as she went to grab a salad followed by the rest of the girls.
"Oh," Damion said as he grabbed a donut showing it into his mouth. "It's been so long." He grabbed another one shoving it into his mouth.
Jareth shook his head as he looked around. He looked around and saw one of the staff members placing some pizza down.
"My favorite food," Jareth mumbled as he got some pizza.
He then went to the drink dispenser getting himself a cup of lemonade. After that everyone else had gotten their food heading back to join Henry who was already half way done.
"Damn man," Damion exclaimed. "If I didn't know better, I would have thought that you were starved."
Henry paused mid chew looking up at Damion with an embarrassed look.
"Well, don't stop on my account," the Nephilim said. "Keep eating."
Like a dog who had been given permission Henry continued eating like his life depended on it.
Jareth sat down in the middle of the table area. Mia sat on his left while Damion sat on his right. Madison sat across from him while the others sat at the remaining seats.
"Can't believe we haven't eaten for an entire day," the twin with the scar named Hudson said as he dug into his burrito.
"What do you mean a day?" Hunter asked.
"We have been knocked unconscious for a day, ugly," his twin Hunter said.
"Who you calling ugly?" Hudson demanded. "We're twins. Besides, you're the one with a scar on your nose."
"That you gave me," Hunter retorted. "What did you even slash my nose with that even the healer Evolved can't heal?"
"You can't heal it?" Mia asked. "I thought you just kept it like that."
"We tried to heal it," Hudson said, "but the small wound just stayed on his nose and our mom already sold it so we don't know what it was. We probably just had a high level Becifer weapon with us and just sold it on a whim. Now my twin has a scar after it healed normally."
"Just be glad you grazed my nose and not my neck," Hunter said eating a piece of bacon.
During the conversation, Jareth had been trying to take a bite of his pizza, but when it got close to his mouth, his body told him not to eat it. He tried to drink his lemonade but the same was happening.
What is wrong with my body? Jareth thought. I love pizza. I wore a pizza costume for Halloween three years ago. Did something happen since then? Is it because of what I am now?
"Hey," his sister Mia interrupted his thoughts. "Are you not going to eat? You got to be hungry."
"I thought I was," Jareth replied. "I mean, I am, but every time I try to take a bite, I feel weird."
"Just take a bite," Damion said. "You are probably still nervous about all of this. After all, it is a big change."
Jareth hesitated but he eventually took a bite of his pizza.
"There you go," Damion said. "Feeling better?"
Jareth nodded his head as he swallowed. He proceeded to take another bite when the system reacted.
"Attention," the System stated. "You have consumed something that is poisonous. "Your body is rejecting it."
Before Jareth could cover his mouth, the pizza he had eaten came up and spewed onto the table.
"Sun problems and now he is sick," Madison said as she backed away from the table as Jareth was coughing.
"Minus 4 HP," the system said. "HP: 8 of 20."
"What's wrong, Jareth?" Mia asked as she held on to her brother as everyone else had moved away from the puke.
Jareth stopped coughing as he croaked, "I'm not feeling well. I think I'll go get some rest."
He stumbled trying to get out as he started to walk out of the room.
"I just have all sorts or problems huh." He giggled as Damion and Henry followed.
"Don't worry Mia," Damion said. "I'll make sure your brother is in his bed."
The three walked out of the room while the rest just moved to a different table while staff came out to clean the mess.
Five minutes later and the three boys were in their room. Surprisingly Henry fell asleep as soon as he hit his bed.
"I didn't think he was tired," Damion said as he too fell asleep but under his covers.
He stared at the two, not expecting them to fall asleep so quickly.
He just laid down in his bed, thinking about what had happened as he held his backpack with the egg cozied up inside.
Why did I throw up, he thought? Is it because of what I am. Am I even human anymore? I thought the system was just playing a prank on me. Am I really a vampire, or at least part one? I guess I really can only drink blood now.
Jareth sat up as the thought hit him more. Blood. Where can I even get that. Does it have to be from a… human?
He gulped as he gripped his bag tighter thinking about how real this was getting.
What were you doing, father?
After more pondering, he too fell asleep, holding onto his backpack. He was tired after a stressful day of everything that had happened to him. Evolving twice, almost getting caught stealing an Evolved book, and finding out that normal food no longer sustains him. You could say it was stressful for any 15-year-old kid.
After about an hour of Jareth peacefully sleeping the System activates a message.
"Pairing "The Bracelet of Dominion" to the Draven System status: 100%. Warning. The Bracelet of Dominion has activated it's testing phase. Error, unable to override it. The System cautions the user to be on high alert."
Within the room, there were three boys, but in the next second, there were only two.
