Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Giant Rasengan!

"No hand seals? This is a seal-less ninjutsu!? My god—what he developed… is actually a seal-less ninjutsu!?"

Below the platform, a sharp-eyed upperclassman noticed that Shinichi hadn't formed any hand seals. He cried out in shock, instantly igniting the entire crowd's astonishment.

"That level of chakra condensation and rotation speed… terrifying. Just looking at it, you can tell the power is incredible!"

The crowd instantly exploded into a buzzing wave of shock, disbelief, and feverish curiosity.

On the platform, in the Third Hokage's eyes, after the initial shock, an unprecedentedly keen light rose up as he stared fixedly at that pale-blue chakra sphere.

But it wasn't over yet!

Shinichi clenched his teeth, let out a low shout, and suddenly lifted his right hand—still supporting the Rasengan—upward!

Boom!

As if infused with even more violent energy, the pale-blue orb—originally only palm-sized—suddenly erupted with a more dazzling light, its volume swelling at an astonishing speed!

The spinning chakra stream let out an even deeper, more violent roar. The air was churned into chaos, releasing a shrill, howling whistle!

In the blink of an eye, the chakra sphere expanded from fist-sized to a frightening head-sized!

The high-speed, circulating chakra lines inside became clearer and more frantic, radiating a heart-stopping, terrifying fluctuation!

Giant Rasengan!

'I don't just want you to sense danger—I want every single one of you to truly experience what "extreme danger" means!'

The Rasengan's power is not small, but its size is too small; unless you're hit by it, it's hard to give people that kind of overwhelming effect at a glance.

But the Giant Rasengan is different—its power and oppressive force make it obvious the moment you see it.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

As this gigantic chakra sphere fully took shape, the wind above the training ground grew violent. Chaotic air currents rolled up the dust on the ground and made people's clothes flap loudly.

A palpable sense of pressure—along with the unstable light and rumbling emitted by that enormous chakra sphere—clearly blanketed the entire venue.

If the Rasengan just now had only made people marvel at its seal-less execution and finesse, and feel that its power should be very strong, then at this moment, this head-sized Giant Rasengan—radiating an aura of destruction—made the expressions of everyone present, teachers and students alike, whether brand-new entrants or experienced instructors, instantly change drastically!

It was no longer a theoretical "not bad" or "maybe very strong," but an intuitive, face-on, scalp-numbing sense of a lethal threat!

The chūnin-level instructors in the ninja academy had their pupils contract, their bodies unconsciously entering a guarded state.

Some students were even cowed by that terrifying chakra fluctuation; they couldn't help taking a few steps back, the color draining from their faces.

"Th-this… what level of ninjutsu is this?!"

"Such terrifying chakra… how can he possibly control it?!"

"Y-you've got to be kidding… is this really a jutsu a student can develop?!"

Cries of alarm rose one after another, but more people held their breath, staring fixedly at the chakra sphere on the platform—like a small storm—and at the black-haired boy at the center of that storm, straining as he maintained it.

The Third Hokage's body had already gone completely taut. The two advisers beside him even sprang to their feet, their faces filled with unbelievable shock.

At this time, the Third Hokage had already noticed the instability of the energy sphere and the boy's gradually whitening face. Without any hesitation, he stepped forward. One hand pressed steadily on Shinichi's trembling shoulder, while the other hand moved over that dangerous Giant Rasengan.

Gentle yet vast chakra intervened, guiding and dispersing it in an exquisitely subtle way. The heart-stopping chakra sphere rapidly shrank and dimmed, and in the end it turned into a gust of clear wind and dispersed into the air.

"Koharu, Homura, you continue hosting the ceremony." The Third Hokage gave a low instruction without even turning his head. Then he turned toward Shinichi, whose face was pale as he panted, and the severity on his face became a deep gentleness. "Child, come with me."

He did not give anyone time to react. Bringing Shinichi with him, under countless shocked, bewildered, and awed gazes from the assembled teachers and students, he swiftly left the clamorous ceremony grounds.

"That child… he went too far! To actually dare to independently develop and try such a dangerous ninjutsu all by himself!" Koharu looked at their departing backs and said with lingering fear.

"Indeed, it was somewhat impulsive and risky." Homura adjusted his glasses, yet the gaze behind the lenses grew noticeably sharper. "However, Koharu… it seems Konohagakure has produced a remarkable genius!"

As Shinichi was personally led away by the Third Hokage, the two advisers continued hosting the opening ceremony.

But the storm of thought stirred up by Shinichi could no longer be calmed.

"A-rank! That was definitely a fluctuation only an A-rank ninjutsu would have!"

"And the larger one afterward… it might even have been S-rank! Although extremely unstable, that oppressive force…"

In the teachers' section, the well-informed chūnin instructors exchanged views.

Very quickly, the news that "third-year student Higashino Shinichi independently developed an A-rank seal-less ninjutsu, possibly even an unstable S-rank ninjutsu" swept through every corner of Konohagakure like the fiercest wildfire.

And at the center of that storm—Shinichi—was now standing inside the Hokage's office.

He lowered his head slightly. His hands hung somewhat uneasily at his sides, and his face bore the expression unique to a youth who had caused great trouble—mixed with lingering fear, nervousness, and helpless uncertainty.

Having taken everything in, the Third Hokage had already returned to sit behind his broad desk.

The expression on his face was as calm as ever, even carrying the benevolence characteristic of an elder, as he slowly spoke: "Shinichi, there is no need to be so nervous. Relax a bit and sit down." He gestured toward the chair opposite him. "I brought you here not to reprimand you, but because I have a few questions about that jutsu and would like to have a proper talk with you."

"Y-yes, Third Hokage-sama!" Shinichi responded at once. Following the instruction, he sat properly in the chair opposite the desk, placing his hands neatly on his knees, looking exactly like a good student attentively receiving instruction.

"Have you given this ninjutsu a name?" The Third Hokage lifted his teacup and took a sip, his tone as natural as casual conversation.

"Rasengan! Third Hokage-sama, I named it Rasengan," Shinichi replied.

"Rasengan… a rotating chakra sphere. A very fitting name." The Third Hokage nodded in approval, set down his teacup, and looked at Shinichi with a gentle gaze. "Then, Shinichi, can you tell me how you came up with and ultimately developed this Rasengan?"

"Yes, Third Hokage-sama." Shinichi appeared to recall briefly before speaking. "Speaking of which, I must thank classmate Asuma for bringing me the inspiration."

"Oh?" The Third Hokage's gaze shifted slightly.

Does this also involve my son?

"It all began two years ago…"
