Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: The Spiral’s Recognition

"About two years ago, during a practical combat assessment, I saw classmate Asuma, while fighting his opponent, highly condense his chakra and stably attach it to his pair of blades, forming blue, glowing chakra blades. Their power was extremely astonishing."

Shinichi recalled: "At that time, I was thinking: since chakra can be so highly condensed onto a weapon, then is it possible… without relying on external objects, to directly compress and condense it in the palm, forming a completely new ninjutsu that can be launched bare-handed?"

Asuma?

Highly condensed?

The Third Hokage suddenly understood, recalling the pair of chakra blades he had given his son as a birthday gift.

Immediately, a trace of lingering fear and reproach rose in his heart: this child is too bold!

Asuma used specially made chakra-conducting metal blades as a medium and guide, yet he actually dared to use his own flesh and blood body to attempt to simulate that kind of high-density chakra form transformation. If his control slipped even slightly…

Though his thoughts churned within, the Third's face remained calm. He did not interrupt Shinichi and continued to listen attentively.

"After having this idea, I began to experiment. At the beginning it was very simple—just trying to gather chakra toward the center of my palm. But it was scattered and formless, with no power at all. Later, I realized chakra requires constraint and form… so I tried using a water balloon. Inside the sealed water balloon, I let the chakra move violently and chaotically until the balloon exploded from the inside."

The Third nodded slightly. This first step in thinking was clear and correct—it touched upon the fundamentals of chakra form transformation.

"After succeeding with the water balloon, I felt the stability was insufficient. So I switched to a tougher rubber ball. The goal was to maintain a certain level of chakra output and let it exist in my palm as if it were materialized, continuously impacting the inside of the rubber ball until it burst. This stage took a very long time and required extremely precise control," Shinichi continued.

"After succeeding with the rubber ball," he paused, as if recalling the difficulty at that time, "I felt there was still something missing. It always seemed separated by a thin layer from the stable condensation I imagined. Later… I thought of using an even harder iron ball."

An iron ball?

Only then did the Third Hokage understand why this child—whom he had been paying close attention to—had suddenly developed the habit of rolling iron balls in his hands more than a year ago.

He had originally thought it was simply a painstaking way to train finger and wrist dexterity and assist with forming hand seals. So there was an even deeper purpose.

This child's talent far exceeds my expectations.

The Third suppressed the turbulence in his heart, and in a voice that remained calm, affirmed: "So that's how it is. Drawing inspiration from observation and daring to put it into practice—and even coming up with such a step-by-step training method—these are extremely valuable qualities and talent."

Then his tone shifted. "However, Shinichi, from what this old man has observed, the first Rasengan you demonstrated—that fist-sized one—has, in terms of chakra form transformation and control, already reached a very stable and exquisite balance. It can be said that this ninjutsu of yours is already quite mature and very successful."

"Mature? Successful?" Shinichi's face showed obvious shock and confusion, as if he had completely not expected to receive such an evaluation.

Seeing his reaction, the Third Hokage immediately understood where the crux lay, and could not help but chuckle and shake his head. "It seems, Shinichi, that you yourself have developed some kind of misunderstanding. In your view, the larger Rasengan that came later and the smaller Rasengan from before are two forms of the same technique—or rather, the former is an unfinished product, and the latter is the completed product you strengthened in order to make up for its shortcomings, correct?"

"Two ninjutsu? But, Third-sama…" Shinichi furrowed his brows tightly, his face full of perplexity, as he explained urgently: "That small Rasengan, although its power is not bad, its condensation speed isn't fast enough, and its attack range is also limited. To me, its defects are obvious. It simply can't be considered a successful ninjutsu that can be used in actual combat. That's why I was thinking: could I inject more chakra and forcibly expand its size and area of effect to cover up these flaws? But it's too unstable."

The Third Hokage listened quietly until he finished. The smile on his face was gentle and wise as he slowly shook his head.

"Shinichi, this is not a problem with the technique itself." His voice was calm, yet carried a persuasive force. "The problem is that you're still too young."

Shinichi paused slightly.

"Your total chakra amount, relative to this technique's requirements, is still insufficient, and the refinement of your precise chakra control is also still in the process of growing." The Third explained patiently, laying out the principles of this ninjutsu: "When you're a bit older, and your body and mind develop further, your chakra reserves will naturally increase, and your control will also rise along with training and experience. By then, you will naturally be able to condense it faster in battle—perhaps even to the point of near-instant activation. And that larger Rasengan, as your chakra increases and your control grows more refined, will also eventually become stable and controllable."

He paused, and his tone carried a trace of encouragement and approval: "Not only that. On the basis of this Rasengan, in the future, when your understanding of chakra nature transformation becomes sufficiently profound, you can completely attempt to inject the nature transformations of wind, fire, and other attribute chakra into it. At that time, the Rasengan will truly transform into an ultimate-level S-rank ninjutsu! This path—I hold you in high regard."

The confusion in Shinichi's eyes was gradually replaced by realization and shock, and then turned into a kind of inspired fervor. He took a deep breath and nodded solemnly. "I understand! Thank you, Third-sama, for your guidance. I will continue to work hard and advance in that direction!"

The Third nodded in relief. But soon his expression grew slightly more serious, and he admonished earnestly: "Shinichi, you are a rare genius, full of creativity and the courage to put things into practice. That is good. However, independently developing high-level ninjutsu—especially techniques involving high-density chakra form transformation—carries extremely high risk."

"In the future, if you have new ideas or encounter difficulties in training, do not always bury yourself in solitary study. You can consult more with your sensei at the Academy and the seniors in the village. If you truly encounter something you cannot resolve…"

The Third Hokage looked into his eyes and said gently yet clearly: "…you can also come and ask this old man."

That night, at the Hokage's office.

"You will regret this!"

Bang!

No one knew for what reason Advisor Shimura Danzō sought an audience with the Hokage. They only knew that in response to a certain request of his, the Third Hokage, rarely, truly lost his temper. Without the slightest mercy, he directly told him to get out, leaving no room for negotiation.

...

A few days later, Namikaze Minato, having returned from a mission, had just arrived home when Jiraiya, who happened to be in Konoha, came to visit.

"Minato, I heard that there's a child whose idea coincides perfectly with the concept you once had. He…"

Jiraiya slowly recounted the entire process by which Shinichi had developed the Rasengan. Minato listened quietly, and a light of surprise and appreciation gradually rose in his eyes.

After hearing it all, he sincerely exclaimed, "That child truly is a remarkable genius! However… although the name Rasengan is quite good, it still seems not quite fitting."

Jiraiya raised his eyebrows, intrigued. "Oh? Then what do you think it should be called?"

Minato pondered seriously for a moment. Light flickered in his eyes as he said, word by word: "Shinichi Light Blade Initiation - Roaring Dance Spiral Sphere."

"Hmm… there should be an extra 'Super' in the middle—Shinichi Light Blade Initiation - Super Roaring Dance Spiral Sphere."

Jiraiya: "…"
