Chapter 237 - A Spy Who Got A System

The alarm shrieked across The Hidden Leaf base camp.

Hizashi Hyuga burst through the tent flap, his expression radiating barely contained excitement. "Sound the alarm! Gather everyone at the command post!"

Ninjas poured from their tents like disturbed ants, confusion rippling through the ranks. Within minutes, the senior officers had assembled—Fugaku Uchiha, Shikaku Nara, and a dozen other jonin, all wondering what catastrophe had struck.

"Hizashi?" Fugaku stepped forward, concern etched across his face. "Has something happened to Lady Tsunade?"

"Quite the opposite," Hizashi said, barely suppressing a grin. "We've destroyed the Hidden Cloud's new encampment."

Shikaku's eyes narrowed. "That wouldn't warrant sounding the alarm. There's more."

"Much more." Hizashi took a breath, then delivered the words that would reshape the war. "The Fourth Raikage, Killer Bee, and both jinchuriki have been captured alive. The remaining Cloud forces have surrendered. The war is over."

Silence.

Then chaos.

"That's impossible—"

"Two tailed beasts? Alive?"

"Am I still dreaming?"

Shikaku raised a hand, cutting through the noise. His analytical mind was already working through the implications. "Hizashi, are you certain? Not under genjutsu?"

"Would I joke about this?" Hizashi's expression sobered. "Walk with me. I'll explain on the way."

As they moved toward the Hidden Cloud's devastated camp, Hizashi recounted the battle. With each detail—the sudden forest that erupted from nothing, Shisui's impossible new power, Hanekawa's overwhelming strength—the officers' expressions shifted from skepticism to awe.

"Wood Style?" Fugaku's voice cracked slightly. "The First Hokage's technique?"

"Created an entire forest in moments," Hizashi confirmed. "I saw it myself."

Fugaku exchanged glances with the other Uchiha present. His mind was already racing through the political implications. The Uchiha clan had always positioned themselves as equals to the Senju legacy. Now, with Shisui's Mangekyō Sharingan awakened, they had leverage. But Hanekawa's Wood Style...

"His Sharingan," Fugaku said carefully, "has advanced. Shisui can now manifest a skeletal warrior form."

"The Mangekyō Sharingan," Shikaku murmured. "So it's true. The Sharingan can evolve further."

Hizashi felt a twinge of concern. The Byakugan had no such advancement. The Hyuga clan's advantage was slipping.

When they arrived at the Hidden Cloud camp, the devastation spoke louder than any words. The earth was scorched and torn. Massive tree stumps—evidence of Hanekawa's forest—jutted from the ground like monuments to overwhelming power.

The officers' last doubts evaporated.

"One more thing," Hizashi added quietly. "Shimura Danzo has been arrested. Hanekawa suspects him of collaborating with the Hidden Cloud."

The implications hit like a shockwave. Danzo—the Hokage's right hand, the most powerful ninja in the village aside from Hiruzen himself—was now a prisoner.

Shikaku's eyes gleamed with calculation. "The power structure will shift. Significantly."

Orochimaru's Tent

The Sannin stood alone, studying the devastated landscape with clinical interest. His lips curved into a thin smile.

"Wood Style," he mused, running his tongue across his teeth. "How fascinating."

He'd expected Tsunade to win. That was inevitable. But Hanekawa's performance transcended mere strength. It suggested possibilities—genetic, experimental, or perhaps something far more intriguing.

The boy was becoming a problem. Too strong to contain, too valuable to ignore.

Orochimaru turned toward the prisoner's tent.

---

Danzo's Imprisonment

The barrier-sealed tent was sparse. Danzo sat rigidly, his single eye burning with barely suppressed fury.

When Orochimaru entered, Danzo surged to his feet. "You came to free me!"

"Not yet." Orochimaru's tone was conversational, almost bored. "Patience. Once we return to the village, circumstances will... improve."

"I won't wait!" Danzo's voice rose. "You're the commander! Why did you allow Tsunade to seize control?"

"Because she's stronger." Orochimaru's answer was matter-of-fact. "Power determines authority. It's that simple."

Danzo wanted to argue, but the logic was airtight. He sat back down, jaw clenched.

"The Root operatives captured by the Hidden Cloud?" Danzo asked after a moment.

"Hatake Sakumo is handling their recovery," Orochimaru replied. "They're already being transported back."

Danzo's fists tightened. Another loss. Another failure.

"What happens when Tsunade becomes Hokage?" The question escaped before he could stop it.

Orochimaru paused. That was the real problem, wasn't it? Tsunade had changed. The woman he remembered would never have seized power so decisively. Something—or someone—had transformed her.

"The old man and the advisors will protect you," Orochimaru said finally. "You're too valuable to lose."

It was a thin reassurance, but Danzo clung to it.

"Hanekawa's Wood Style," Orochimaru continued, his tone shifting to something more predatory. "Does it connect to the experiments?"

"No." Danzo's answer was immediate and certain. "If it did, I would have already acted."

The bitterness in his voice was genuine. He'd given up Hanekawa to Hiruzen and Tsunade for nothing. If he'd known the boy possessed natural Wood Style...

Orochimaru's eyes gleamed. Natural Wood Style was infinitely more valuable than artificial variants. The implications were staggering.

The Hokage's Office, Konoha

Hiruzen set down his brush as the knock came. "Enter."

The ANBU operative Aoi stepped inside, scroll in hand. "Urgent intelligence from Lady Tsunade, Lord Hokage."

Hiruzen's eyebrow rose. Intelligence from Tsunade, not Orochimaru? Unusual.

He opened the scroll and read.

His hands trembled slightly as he finished.

"Aoi," he said carefully, "confirm the encryption on this message."

"Highest level, sir. No possibility of tampering."

Hiruzen stood, moving to the window. Below, the village continued its ordinary routines. None of them knew yet. None of them understood that the war had fundamentally changed.

The Fourth Raikage captured. Two jinchuriki in Leaf custody. Shisui's Mangekyō Sharingan awakened. Hanekawa wielding Wood Style.

And Danzo arrested.

"Spread word through official channels," Hiruzen said finally. "Hanekawa awakened Wood Style. Combined with Tsunade's forces, they achieved a decisive victory. The Fourth Raikage and both jinchuriki are now prisoners of war."

"Yes, Lord Hokage."

As Aoi left, Hiruzen returned to the window. Somewhere on the battlefield, a new power was rising. A power that might reshape the entire ninja world.

He only hoped Tsunade could guide it wisely.

Kushina and Minato's Home

Kushina paced restlessly, her red hair catching the lamplight. "I should be on that battlefield. Every day I'm here is another day our comrades die."

Minato watched her with quiet understanding. "The Hokage has his reasons for keeping you here."

"His reasons are overcautious!" Kushina's fists clenched. "I could end this war in weeks!"

A knock interrupted her tirade.

Minato's expression shifted to alert. "At this hour?"

Kushina moved to the door, already sensing the chakra signature beyond. Her eyes widened.

"News from the front," she breathed.

Minato rose, his hand instinctively moving toward his kunai pouch. Whatever had happened, it was significant enough to warrant a messenger at this hour.

The door opened.

The messenger's expression told them everything they needed to know before a single word was spoken.
