Chapter 71 - Chapter 71 : Aftermath

"Do you know this chick, Sam?" Dean asked, eyes flicking between her and the knife in her hand.

The blade still carried that same effect—the kind that could actually kill demons—and that alone put him on edge. Since when does everyone start carrying one of those?

Sam didn't take his eyes off her. "No," he said, steady but cautious. "Who are you?"

The woman tilted her head slightly, not lowering the knife. "That's a lot of suspicion," she said. "Considering I just saved your asses."

"That's exactly the problem," Bobby said. "People who help us usually have a reason. We like to know what that is."

Dean shifted his stance slightly, still between her and Sam. "Yeah," he added, tone sharper now. "So start talking."

Her gaze moved between them, then settled back on Sam, like he was the only one she cared about answering.

"Names can wait," she said calmly. "What matters is you just ran into something bigger than you think."

Sam's expression didn't change. "We already figured that part out," he said.

The faint smile came back.

"Not all of it," she replied.

"There's an angry demon who wants Sam's head on her plate," Ruby said, her voice steady, serious now. "And she's not the kind that gives up. She won't stop until your brother is dead."

Dean's expression hardened instantly. "Who?" he asked, taking a step forward.

Ruby didn't answer. She held Sam's gaze for a moment, like she was saying more than words, then shook her head slightly.

"That's something we'll talk about next time," she said, already turning away.

Dean let out a sharp breath. "Yeah, no—hold on," he started, but she didn't stop.

Within seconds, she disappeared into the darkness of the woods.

Silence settled for a moment after she was gone.

Dean looked in the direction she left, jaw tight, then glanced at Sam. "I don't like that," he said.

"Yeah," Sam replied quietly. "Me neither."

Bobby lowered his gun, practical as always. "We can deal with her later," he said. "Right now, we got a bigger problem."

Sam nodded once. "Henry."

That was enough.

None of them moved to follow Ruby.

They had already walked into one mess tonight, and they weren't in any condition to chase another—especially with someone injured and barely holding on.

Dean turned without another word, and the three of them headed back into the woods.

They made their way back through the trees and found Henry resting against the trunk, breathing steadier now, though the strain still showed.

"So did you guys finish the job?" Henry asked, looking up at them.

"Yeah," Dean said. Sam and Bobby stepped in on either side, helping Henry to his feet as they started walking back toward the Impala.

After a few steps, Dean glanced at him, still thinking about what he'd seen. "Hey, Henry… that knife," he said. "Where the hell did you get something that can kill demons like that?"

Henry shook his head slightly. "It's not the knife," he said. "It's a spell. Found it in a book while I was looking for ways to hide Madison from demons. One-time use. You can bind it to any object, and it works on normal-level demons."

Dean nodded slowly, not fully convinced but not pushing it. "Huh," he muttered.

Then he looked ahead again. "So… you know a chick carrying one of those?" he asked.

Henry's eyes shifted. "Is she blonde?" he asked.

"Yeah," Sam answered.

Henry's expression didn't soften. "She's a psycho bitch," he said flatly. "Next time you see her, don't talk, don't trust—just put a knife in her. It's better if we don't get involved with that kind."

"Wow, that's a lot of hostility," Dean said, glancing at Henry as they walked. "She mess with you or something?"

Henry didn't even look at him. "Yeah," he said, voice flat. "I know her type. She's a manipulative bitch. One minute you think she's on your side, the next she screws you from behind."

Dean let out a short huff, but he didn't brush it off. He could hear the certainty in Henry's voice.

Sam stayed quiet, eyes forward, turning it over in his head.

Ruby is the most cunning demon, the kind that plays both sides without ever showing her real hand. She fooled everyone—Sam, Dean, even hunters who should've known better—by acting like she had turned against demons, like she was helping the Winchesters.

In reality, every move she made was calculated, tied to something bigger. She worked with Lilith, not against her, pushing Sam step by step, making him stronger, shaping him into exactly what they needed. Everything she ever did under the excuse of helping Sam was a lie, a setup, all leading to one end—Lucifer's release.

When they got back to the Impala, Dean stopped the moment he saw it.

The missing door.

The dents along the side.

The scratches that weren't there before.

He walked up to it without saying anything, running his hand along the body like he was checking damage on something alive. "My baby…" he muttered under his breath. "Don't worry, I'll fix you. You'll be fine."

Henry, still leaning on Sam and Bobby, looked at him for a second. "Dean," he said, voice dry despite the condition he was in, "I'm also injured here. You ever show this kind of concern for me?"

Dean didn't even look back. "You're breathing," he said, still focused on the car. "She's missing a door."

Sam shook his head slightly, already used to it. "He's got a point," he said.

Bobby snorted. "Kid, you're gonna learn real quick," he muttered. "That car ranks higher than most people."

Dean finally glanced back, just for a second. "Hey," he said, pointing lightly, "you're still on the list."

Henry exhaled slowly. "Yeah," he said. "Comforting."
