"Oh, the letter… it's—"
"Valerie."
Valerie was part of the theater club. She was tall, pretty, rich, and popular. She had a big reputation, lots of friends, was very social, and was kind to everyone.
Lukas didn't expect that name, so he looked completely surprised when he heard it.
"Why would she give me a letter?" Lukas said, confused.
Elliene shrugged.
"Well, I know I'm handsome, cute, and kinda tall—"
"Okay, stop. Now you're spreading bad energy with your mouth," Elliene said, interrupting Lukas and covering his mouth.
Lukas bit Elliene's hand.
"Ahh! You idiot!" Elliene shouted.
"Your hand tastes so bitter," Lukas said, laughing.
"Yuck," Elliene said, surprised.
"But seriously, I'm way out of her league. She's kind, beautiful… and with that kind of reputation, while I'm just a boring, handsome person," Lukas said, sounding genuinely sad.
"Uh, I get the boring part, but handsome?" Elliene said, disagreeing.
Lukas was genuinely surprised, but he had no intention of accepting Valerie's feelings.
"But seriously, how did you find out?" Lukas asked, confused.
"Well, when I was in the girls' restroom, I 'accidentally' heard them talking about the letter," Elliene said.
"You sure you really just 'accidentally heard' them? " Lukas ask suspiciously grinning
"YOUU" Elliene shouted and chased Lukas. In the eyes of others, this scene is just the familiar teasing of the two best friends.
The next day, Lukas began looking for Valerie during lunch so he could talk to her about the letter. But he couldn't find a chance to get her alone.
"Valerie has so many friends. It must be nice to be popular," he thought.
Finally, after like three minutes or so, Lukas gathered the courage to approach her. "Um… hey, Valerie."
"Oh, hey, Lukas. Can I help you?" she said as her blue eyes sparkled as she saw him standing in front of her. Lukas felt the eyes of Valerie's friends—and everyone around them—on him.
"Can you follow me to the school rooftop?"
He said as quietly as possible to Valerie, but failed to do so as the curiosity of her friends took over them. As soon as they piece two from two, Valerie's friends started blushing and squirming. In public, they looked so good together that someone might mistake them for a couple.
"S-sure." Valerie felt shy and happy at the same time. Thinking that this might be the moment she had been waiting for. On the other hand, Lukas didn't know where to start. As they reach the rooftop, he then start contemplating on how to turn her down in the nicest way possible.
"Uh… I just wanted to talk about the letter you gave me months ago." Valerie froze when she heard him mention the letter.
She grew nervous, wondering what Lukas was going to say about it.
"Um… how was it? Were there any mistakes in the letter?" Valerie asked.
"Uh, no… it's not that there was a mistake. It's more like I have something to say about it." Valerie grew even more curious about Lukas's response. She looked at his face and saw that he was serious—almost frowning.
Valerie lowered her gaze, as if bracing herself for what he was about to say.
"Valerie, I—"
