1) Anzu's unease becomes reality
On the other side of Domino City, Anzu can't shake Kisaragi's warning:
"Be careful—because you're connected to Yugi."
That line keeps echoing in her head until she finally finds Jounouchi right after he defeats Ryota Kajiki at the aquarium. Jounouchi is upbeat—he's already beaten Insect Queen (Haga) earlier, and he's close to completing his Locator Cards.
But then a dark-skinned boy named Ramu arrives, supporting an injured Bakura. Ramu says he found Bakura hurt and helped him up. Sugoroku (Grandpa) sees Bakura's condition and decides to take him to the hospital by taxi, telling Jounouchi not to waste time in the tournament.
As soon as Jounouchi and Anzu turn to leave, three hooded men jump them.
They sucker-punch Jounouchi.
Ramu tries to intervene and gets beaten.
Jounouchi fights back hard—dropping two of them—showing he's still got street-fight reflexes even if he's "not a delinquent anymore."
But while he's distracted, Anzu gets grabbed, and one of the men who'd been beaten manages to get up and knocks Jounouchi out.
Then Anzu's phone rings—it's Yugi calling. One of the attackers picks it up, lets Yugi's voice come through, then throws the phone down and stomps it to pieces, cutting their lifeline.
Anzu can only whisper: "Yugi…"
2) Yugi can't reach Anzu — Kaiba's net starts moving
At a public phone booth elsewhere, Yugi (Yami) is shouting into the receiver, but Anzu's line is dead—only the "busy / unreachable" tone.
Outside, Kisaragi and Kaiba are waiting with him.
Kisaragi tells Kaiba plainly: "Kaiba, your turn."
Kaiba resists on principle—then Kisaragi "asks" anyway, reminding him they helped her a lot during Duelist Kingdom.
Kaiba relents, clicks on his concealed micro-communicator, and demands status.
Mokuba reports something disturbing:
They detected Jounouchi at the aquarium.
Then his signal vanished—likely attacked.
Kaiba immediately tags it as Ghoul (Gurus) activity.
Then the communicator catches Mokuba screaming.
Yami steps out, alarmed: "Kaiba—did something happen to Mokuba?"
Kisaragi's eyes are sharp and urgent.
"Mokuba was attacked."
3) The hostage reveal: Mokuba in the helicopter
A figure appears before them—almost casually.
"Gurus?" Kaiba snaps.
The figure only laughs: "Turn around."
A helicopter roars low overhead.
Mokuba is strapped and hanging in midair.
Kaiba's face twists with rage. He threatens to use every resource of KaibaCorp to annihilate them.
The Ghoul taunts him: if Kaiba moves against them, Mokuba "will…"
Then comes the ultimatum:
"We'll be waiting on that building's rooftop.
If you don't come, you know what happens."
And they add one more knife twist:
"Yugi… and Kisaragi Aoi—you should come too.
If not, we'll immediately deal with your friends."
The helicopter rises and carries Mokuba away.
Kaiba's fists clench. Yami's expression hardens.
"Then we have no choice," Kaiba says.
Kisaragi and Yami both nod.
4) The rooftop trap: Light Mask & Dark Mask
They reach the target building's rooftop.
Three figures are waiting. Two step forward:
Mask of Light (white mask)
Mask of Darkness (black mask)
The third stays hidden.
They propose a duel with a "reward" and "payment":
If Kaiba's side loses: hand over the God Cards.
If Kaiba's side wins: they'll reveal where the captured friends are.
Kisaragi immediately checks the format: "Not a 3v3, right?"
Mask of Light explains the real horror:
The duel platform is made of four separate transparent glass panels.
Each glass panel has a bomb installed.
If a duelist's LP hits 0, that panel's bomb detonates, and the loser falls from the high-rise.
The "extra" third person can tag in for the next duel… but there won't be a safe panel left—meaning they'll fall too. The Masks laugh, proud of their cruelty.
Kaiba snarls. Kisaragi steps forward, calm and icy.
"Kaiba. You and I team up."
Kaiba blinks: "Kisaragi?"
"Because Mokuba being taken makes me furious too. I'll crush Gurus with you. Yugi—no objections?"
Yugi answers honestly: he can't imagine those two losing.
Kaiba actually looks… pleased.
"Fine. Then it's me and Kisaragi."
Mask of Light quietly signals strategy to Mask of Darkness: without Yugi in the first pair, there's one fewer God Card threat—so they'll focus fire on Kisaragi; if she falls, Yugi will be forced into the death setup next.
And with that, the Masks raise their Duel Disks.
"Duel."
