Aoi's eyes narrowed with quiet confidence.
"Kaiba's finally getting serious," she murmured. "And he's already planting the seed for the breakout."
Kaiba moved immediately.
"I activate the Spell Return of the Dragon Lords—it lets me Special Summon a Level 7 or 8 Dragon from my Graveyard!"
Amelda scoffed.
"You're reviving Blue-Eyes White Dragon? Even if you do, it still can't beat my Cipher Scout."
Kaiba's mouth curled.
"No. I'm reviving Arc Brave Dragon."
A dragon surged up from Kaiba's Graveyard in a burst of pale light.

Kaiba didn't pause.
"Arc Brave Dragon's effect—when it's Special Summoned, banish all face-up Spells and Traps my opponent controls, then this card gains 200 ATK/DEF for each card banished!"
Amelda's field flashed—cards were ripped away by force.
"Your DNA Surgery, Ultimate Shield, and even The Seal of Orichalcos—all of it gets banished!"
Amelda laughed, low and cruel.
"Too bad. The Seal of Orichalcos cannot leave the field by any card effect."
The green circle remained, pulsing like an eye.
Still, the rest of Amelda's setup vanished. Arc Brave Dragon's power swelled.

Kaiba clicked his tongue.
"Tch… so the Seal is that kind of plague."
Then his gaze sharpened like a knife.
"But with DNA Surgery gone, your Cipher Scout loses its combat boost logic—its ATK drops back down."
Kaiba pointed forward.
"Battle! Arc Brave Dragon attacks Cipher Scout!"
Amelda's LP dipped under the strike.

Kaiba set two cards.
"I set two. End my turn."(Cards in hand: 3)
"My turn—draw!"
Amelda's grin returned, smug and steady.
"I activate Pot of Greed. I draw two."
He slapped down a monster.
"I Normal Summon Barrel Lores in Attack Position!" (1000 ATK / 1000 DEF)
The Orichalcos seal flared; the monster's body darkened.
"Seal effect—my monster gains 500 ATK!"

"And Barrel Lores gains 500 ATK if I control a FIRE monster. It's FIRE itself—so that's active."

Kaiba didn't blink.
"2000 is nothing. It can't touch Arc Brave Dragon."
Amelda's eyes gleamed.
"Then I'll take your dragon away."
He fired off a Spell.
"I activate Smashing Ground—it destroys your monster with the highest DEF. That's your Arc Brave Dragon!"
A giant spectral fist slammed down from above.
Kaiba's jaw tightened.
And then Amelda chained another Spell, voice almost delighted.
"Now I activate Flame Whip. The monster destroyed this turn is Special Summoned to my field instead, and its Attribute becomes FIRE."
Kaiba's dragon—his Arc Brave Dragon—rose again, but on Amelda's side.
The Orichalcos seal reacted.
"Seal effect—Arc Brave Dragon gains 500 ATK!"

"And since I now control another FIRE monster, Barrel Lores gains 500 more."

Kaiba's eyes narrowed. Aoi's expression hardened.
Amelda spread his arms.
"2900 and 2500. Enough."
He leaned in, voice poisonous.
"Game over. You'll die by your own monster. That's the perfect ending for you, Kaiba."
"Battle! Arc Brave Dragon attacks directly!"
Kaiba didn't flinch.
"Not happening."
He snapped a Trap open.
"Trap—Backfire Gate! When you declare a direct attack: that attack is negated, and I draw one card. If I draw a monster, I can Normal Summon it in face-up Attack Position."
Arc Brave Dragon's strike collapsed mid-air.
Kaiba drew.
His pupils tightened—then ignited with unmistakable satisfaction.
Aoi caught it instantly. Her lips curled faintly.
"…He drew it."
Kaiba turned the card, showing it cleanly.
"I drew Maiden with Eyes of Blue."
He slammed it to the field.
"By Backfire Gate's effect, I Normal Summon it in Attack Position!"

Amelda laughed, loud and contemptuous.
"That's your miracle? A 0 ATK girl? Pathetic. Beating you like this won't even feel good."
His eyes slid to Aoi, gleaming with malice.
"But it's fine. After I crush you, I'll take my time breaking Aoi Aoi."
Kaiba's voice dropped into something colder than rage.
"…You just said you'd break who?"
Amelda pointed.
"Battle! Barrel Lores attacks Maiden with Eyes of Blue!"
The moment the attack connected—
It stopped.
Maiden's body shimmered. Her stance shifted.
She snapped into Defense Position as if reality itself refused the blow.
Amelda froze.
"What—?!"
Kaiba's smile was sharp enough to cut.
"Maiden's effect. When she becomes the target of an attack: negate the attack, change her battle position, and then I can Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon from my hand, Deck, or Graveyard."
He reached into his Deck without hesitation.
"Come forth—my soul."
A white roar tore through the Orichalcos air.
Blue-Eyes White Dragon (3000 ATK / 2500 DEF)
Amelda took an involuntary step back.
"A second Blue-Eyes…?!"
Kaiba's gaze was ice.
"End my turn."(Cards in hand: 0)
Amelda forced his breathing steady, but fear had already crept into the edges of his confidence.
"Don't panic," he told himself. "Even with one Blue-Eyes, Kaiba can't end me in a single turn."
He drew.
"My turn—draw—"
And at that exact instant, Kaiba's fingertips brushed his card—
A faint ripple spread around his hand.
Aoi's eyes snapped open.
"It's here," she whispered. "The Legendary Dragon…"
White light burst.
Kaiba's consciousness dropped into a silent, pure-white sanctuary.
Two dragon-shaped statues stood frozen in ice.
One had a sword driven into its throat.
"Seto!"
Aoi appeared beside him, brought by the White Dragon spirit's pull.
"Your dragon is calling you," she said. "That sword—pull it."
Kaiba stared, and for once there was no arrogance—only certainty.
"I feel it… too."
He gripped the sword with both hands and pulled.
For a few breaths, it wouldn't move.
Then—
CRACK.
Ice shattered like glass.
The blade slid free.
The statue's frozen shell broke apart, revealing a dragon of solemn, ancient power.
Kaiba stepped forward, eyes fierce.
"I've never seen you before… but I know your name."
He placed his hand on the dragon.
"Critias."
A blinding flash—linking man and dragon.
Kaiba's awareness snapped back to the duel arena.
He looked at the card he'd drawn.
And the name on it confirmed everything.
"This is…"
Kaiba raised it, voice resonant with absolute conviction.
"The Fang of Critias."
