Kaden was curious.
He had always been a curious child. He liked knowing what other people were doing, especially grown-ups. Grown-ups always did strange things when they thought no one was looking.
In the cartoon he watched, there was this Black Syndicate and they wore black clothes, drove black cars, and walked together like a pack. They would sneak around and steal people's chocolate bars.
Kaden thought that was very bad.
But also… a little cool.
After staying at Mommy's boss's big mansion for a few days, he started to notice something. The men guarding the mansion wore black too!
When Kaden first arrived, they all looked scary. The men were big, quiet, and dressed in all black. Even Soren looked scary. He was the one who picked Kaden up from Emma's apartment and his face didn't smile much. He didn't like that at first.
