The atmosphere inside Solthera shifted from stunned silence into a flurry of urgent preparation. Recognizing the impending doom at their borders, King Aetheron wasted no time. He immediately summoned the High Seer of the Seven Kingdoms to prepare the sacred rituals for Princess Vaelora's coronation and the upcoming royal union.
Before the crown could touch her head, however, there was an ancient bond that needed to be sealed.
King Aetheron, Lord Kaelor Draven, and Lady Seraphine Draven led Azeal and Vaelora away from the chaotic war council, guiding them deep into the heart of the royal sanctuary. There, standing majestic against the midnight sky, was the Starfall Tree. Its crystalline leaves glowed with a faint, cosmic starlight, weeping gentle silver embers that dissolved before touching the soft grass below. This was the most sacred ground in Solthera, a place where oaths were woven into the fabric of reality.
The older generation stood before the glowing roots of the tree, their expressions soft yet deeply solemn.
"Many years ago, when the first shadows of Draeven Zareth began to creep into our borders, Kaelor and I made a solemn pact beneath these very branches," King Aetheron spoke, his voice heavy with emotion. "We promised that our houses would never fracture. We promised that when the time came, we would unite our children to bind the light of Solthera forever."
"And today, we fulfill that promise," Lord Kaelor added, looking at Prince Azeal and then at Princess Vaelora, while Lady Seraphine smiled through tears of pride. "You both have survived the oceans, the abyss, and the monsters of the world. You have proven your spirit. Now, it is time to bring your paths together."
King Aetheron took Vaelora's hand, and Lord Kaelor took Azeal's. With slow, deliberate movements, the two fathers brought the hands of their children together, joining them directly beneath the showering starlight of the ancient tree. The moment their palms touched, a warm, resonant pulse of magic rippled through the Starfall leaves, acknowledging the fulfillment of the old vow.
Azeal looked into Vaelora's sharp eyes, seeing the fierce queen she was born to be, while Vaelora felt the unyielding strength of the man who had bled for her. For a fleeting second, amidst the terrifying weight of the prophecy and the crown, there was a moment of profound, quiet peace.
But the peace did not last.
Before their hands could completely lock to seal the vow, a deep, booming sound shook the very foundations of the mountain. It was a terrifying, thunderous blast that tore through the night sky, echoing across every valley and peaks of the realm.
The Vaelcry had been blown.
The ancient war horn of Solthera wailed with a desperate, piercing intensity, signaling that the enemy army had breached the borders and war had officially erupted at their doorstep.
The ground beneath the Starfall Tree violently shuddered as the echoes of the horn were followed by distant, crashing explosions rocking the outer walls. The majestic silver leaves rattled violently above them, their glow instantly turning a panicked, flickering crimson.
"The perimeter is breached! The war is here!" Lord Kaelor roared, instantly drawing his broadsword as the sky over the city turned a sickening, shadowy violet.
Absolute chaos erupted across Solthera in a heartbeat. The frantic clanging of armor, the shouting of commanders, and the desperate cries of the citizens filled the air as the entire kingdom mobilized for battle. Draeven's full, unmitigated power was crashing down upon their gates.
"There is no time left for the rituals!" King Aetheron shouted over the rising din of war, his eyes blazing with the fire of a warrior king. "To arms! All of you! We defend the throne tonight, or there will be no kingdom left to rule!"
Azeal broke his gaze from Vaelora, his face hardening as he drew the Star Fire Sword, its blue flames erupting instantly to push back the invading darkness. Vaelora drew her dual Midnight Daggers, her silver hair whipping in the chaotic wind as she stood shoulder-to-shoulder with him.
Turning their backs on the sacred tree, the lords, the lady, the prince, and the true princess sprinted out of the sanctuary, rushing headfirst into the terrifying madness of a battlefield that would decide the fate of the Seven Kingdoms.
