Chapter 24 -  Chapter 24 — “Chains in the Dust”

The plan worked.

Too well.

By late afternoon, the trade group was ambushed.

Not far from the dry forest line.

Red Sand warriors emerged silently—just as Kael had predicted.

They didn't rush.

They surrounded.

Controlled.

Disciplined.

From a distance, hidden behind rocky terrain, Dane watched everything.

He didn't move.

Not yet.

The moment had to be perfect.

The Red Sand group seized the goods quickly.

No unnecessary killing.

No chaos.

Then they began moving back.

That was the signal.

Dane raised his hand.

"Follow."

---

 Into Enemy Territory

They tracked them for hours.

No fire.

No sound.

Even footsteps were controlled.

Dean moved ahead like a shadow, marking paths.

The deeper they went… the more wrong the air felt.

Dry.

Heavy.

And then—

They saw it.

Red Sand's hidden base.

Not one village.

But multiple structures.

Spread across rocky land.

Guarded.

Organized.

And at the center—

A large enclosure.

Wooden barriers.

Reinforced.

Dane's eyes narrowed.

"That's not storage."

Kael, who had joined them despite his condition, stepped closer.

"No…"

His voice turned colder.

"It's a prison."

---

 The Truth Behind the Walls

Night fell.

Torches lit the enemy camp.

From their hidden position, Kael observed everything carefully.

Men.

Warriors.

Very few women.

But inside the enclosure…

Movement.

Slow.

Weak.

Kael's jaw tightened.

"We go closer."

Dane looked at him.

"That's risky."

Kael didn't respond.

He was already moving.

Slowly.

Silently.

One by one, they reached the back side of the enclosure.

And then—

Kael looked inside.

His breath stopped for a moment.

Dozens of women.

Maybe more.

Weak.

Thin.

Some injured.

Some holding each other.

Eyes empty.

No strength left to even speak.

Slaves.

Not tribe members.

Not allies.

Property.

One woman noticed movement outside.

She flinched… then froze.

Fear.

Not hope.

Fear.

Because in her world—

Anyone approaching meant pain.

Kael felt something twist inside him.

Not anger.

Something deeper.

Colder.

---

 The Decision

Dane whispered,

"If we attack now, we alert the entire camp."

Dean added,

"But if we leave… they die slowly anyway."

Silence.

Kael didn't take long.

"We don't leave them."

Simple.

Final.

No debate.

Dane exhaled slowly.

"Then we do it fast."

---

 Breaking the Chains

The attack was silent at first.

Two guards.

Gone before they could react.

Dean cut the bindings on the enclosure gate.

The wood creaked slightly.

Too loud.

A nearby Red Sand warrior turned—

And saw them.

"EN—"

His voice never finished.

Arrow.

Throat.

But it was enough.

Within seconds—

Shouts erupted.

Chaos spread.

Kael stepped forward and broke the main lock with force.

"Come out," he said firmly.

The women didn't move.

They were too used to orders.

Too used to fear.

Kael's voice softened.

"You're free."

That word…

Free.

It didn't register immediately.

One woman slowly stood.

Then another.

Then suddenly—

Movement.

Panic.

Hope.

Confusion.

Some cried.

Some couldn't even stand.

Dane shouted,

"Move! Now!"

Elite soldiers formed a protective circle.

Red Sand warriors rushed in.

But this time—

They weren't hunting.

They were too late.

Kael fought through pain again.

Every swing of his weapon heavier than the last.

But he didn't stop.

Couldn't stop.

Because behind him—

People were escaping hell.

---

 Escape

They didn't try to win the battle.

Only to break through.

And they did.

By the time Red Sand reorganized—

Kael and his group were already gone.

Taking the women with them.

Running through darkness.

Through forest.

Through exhaustion.

No one spoke.

No one stopped.

Not until dawn.

---

 A New Beginning

When they finally reached the village—

Everything paused.

People gathered.

Silent.

Watching.

Dozens of broken women standing at the entrance.

Not prisoners anymore.

But not yet free inside.

Just… lost.

Angelika stepped forward first.

She looked at them—

And understood everything without words.

"Bring water," she said immediately.

"Food."

"Clothes."

Elara walked toward one of the weakest women and gently supported her.

"No one touches them without permission," she said firmly to the villagers.

Kael stood quietly.

Watching.

Breathing heavy.

Body near its limit.

But eyes steady.

Dane walked beside him.

"You just brought a storm into this village."

Kael nodded.

"I know."

He looked at the women again.

"They were already in it."

Silence.

Then Kael spoke one last time—

Not loudly.

But clearly enough for everyone to hear.

"In this village…"

"No one is a slave."

The words spread slowly.

Settling into the ground.

Into the people.

Into the future.

Because this wasn't just rescue.

This was a statement.

A line drawn again.

And somewhere far away—

Red Sand would soon realize—

Their control…

Was breaking.
