Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: What the Hell? This Is a Center?

"Timeout? In garbage time like this, do we really need a timeout?"

In the broadcast booth.

Van Gundy frowned slightly. Mike Breen glanced back at the court, his pupils suddenly shrinking as he exclaimed, "Huh? It's only been two minutes, and the lead is already down to just ten?!"

"What?!"

Van Gundy was just as shocked when he heard that.

What was going on?

The two commentators, who had been chatting casually and barely paying attention to the game, hurriedly pulled up the stats.

Van Gundy stared at the numbers, disbelief written all over his face. "The Suns' center wearing No. 0—Blake Su—has been on the floor for 2 minutes and 3 seconds, gone 5-for-5 from the field, 1-for-1 at the line, and scored 11 points?!"

"Blake Su?"

Mike Breen gasped and quickly double-checked. "It really is him. Blake Su, a player from China. Wasn't he someone who couldn't even crack the rotation?

What is this—5-for-5, 11 straight points?!"

"Hey!"

The more Van Gundy looked at the numbers, the more stunned he became. "Mike, Blake Su is a 215-centimeter center.

How is he hitting perimeter mid-range shots like this?!"

"Exactly!"

Mike Breen nodded repeatedly, equally astonished.

During the timeout, the two commentators—who had been completely disengaged moments ago—fell into stunned silence as they looked at the score, now only an 11-point gap, and Blake Su's eye-popping scoring run.

At the same time…

In the stands.

"Hey, did you see that?!"

"See what?"

"That Suns backup center wearing No. 0—he's kind of insane. Five-for-five, 11 straight points, a one-man 11–0 run."

"Kind of insane? He's absurdly strong!"

"Yeah! He's a center, and not only is he perfect from the field, he's doing it with perimeter jumpers—pull-ups, even. That's ridiculous!"

"His offense doesn't look like a center's at all. He plays like a guard. A center attacking like a guard—who can stop that?"

"Exactly!"

"So strong. Who is this No. 0? Since when did the Suns have a center like this? I've never even heard of him!"

"Didn't the commentators just say his name is Blake Su? From China?"

"China? I thought Yao Ming was the only one who really made an impact. What's the deal with this Blake Su?"

"Who cares? He's amazing. Maybe the Suns can actually come back tonight."

"…"

After Blake Su rattled off 11 straight points, both Suns fans and Wizards fans began paying attention to him—to this 215-centimeter center who was impossible to ignore.

Wizards bench.

John Wall, Nick Young, and the others all turned serious as they watched Blake Su's dazzling scoring burst.

Off to the side, wearing No. 11, Yi Jianlian kept his expression under control, though a trace of surprise still showed in his eyes.

From the commentators' words, he already knew who Blake Su was—the young player who had just scored 11 straight points in spectacular fashion.

"That jumper, that vertical, that speed… those tools are impressive."

Yi Jianlian didn't know Blake Su personally, but watching a young player perform like this naturally caught his attention.

If they weren't on opposing teams, he might have gone over after the game to exchange a few words.

The league was never an easy place to establish yourself, especially for young players trying to carve out a role. Pressure was part of the job.

But tonight, Blake Su's offensive display felt different—pure talent and confidence, standing on its own.

"Keep it up,"

Yi Jianlian said quietly.

"Coach, should we put the starters back in?" Nick Young asked. "Four minutes left, ten-point gap. It's not small—but that No. 0 center is scorching hot. Something unexpected could happen."

Saunders thought for a moment before replying, "Not yet. I checked. Other than knowing his name is Blake Su, that he's from China, and that he joined as a rookie free agent this year, there's basically no other information on him.

Maybe…

It's just a flash in the pan. He probably won't keep this up. It's only been a few minutes—no need to rush."

On the other side.

The Suns had no intention of bringing their starters back either. Right now, Blake Su was controlling the tempo perfectly. If the Suns went back to their starters, the Wizards would surely match them, and the rhythm would be disrupted.

So…

After the timeout.

Both teams returned with the same players. But everything felt different now. Blake Su, who had been completely overlooked just moments ago, had become the sole focus on the court. Everyone was waiting for his next move.

Wizards ball.

Martin called for a screen and took a mid-range jumper—but it missed.

Dragić secured the rebound and immediately pushed it ahead to center Blake Su to initiate the break. Earlier, he might have complained, but now… he trusted Blake Su's ball-handling completely.

A center bringing the ball up the floor?

In 2010, that was almost unheard of.

The fans, fully re-engaged now, lit up with anticipation.

"Thump, thump, thump!"

At the top of the arc.

Blake Su dribbled, once again facing Martin. Martin's expression had turned noticeably heavy. After getting beaten again and again, he no longer dared to underestimate Blake Su.

This time, he was fully locked in—determined to stop him and redeem himself.

"Here we go."

Blake Su gave a soft snort. Ball in his left hand, he suddenly dropped his center of gravity and drove left. His towering frame made the move look extremely convincing.

"Left drive!"

Martin's eyes sharpened as he slid over to cut him off.

But in that instant, Blake Su snapped into a sharp crossover in front of his body and exploded to the right, blowing past Martin with a single move.

"Swish!"

Wide open, Blake Su rose up and calmly knocked down the jumper.

"Whoa!"

A wave of shocked noise rippled through the arena.

In the booth, Van Gundy slapped the desk. "Wow! A huge crossover into a pull-up jumper—how is a center doing this?!"

It was the first time Van Gundy had truly watched Blake Su attack, and he was completely stunned.

"This is unbelievable," Mike Breen said, shaking his head in amazement. "Blake Su is 215 centimeters tall, yet he's changing directions and pulling up like a guard.

Incredible.

He must have exceptional physical gifts and coordination to play like this. And someone like that was just a benchwarmer on the Suns?!"

As the two commentators were still reeling—

"Swish!"

With the boost of [Peak Anthony Jump Shot] and [Iverson's Talent], Blake Su shook Martin clean and drilled another jumper right over the Wizards' help defense.

"Gasp!"

In the stands.

A Wizards fan stared wide-eyed at Blake Su and yelled, "Another crossover into a jumper?! What the hell—this guy's a center?!"
